Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 68 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Friday I took a half day to try and get some stuff done. I got some, but not enough (story of my life). I'm finally using a Groupon I bought almost a year ago for my birthday, which is 2 maids for 1.5 hours. I'm scheduled for next Monday, July 9 and need to de-clutter so they can clean. I am beyond excited about this and fear I will want them to come back - often. Then we had tickets for the Cardinals game so I picked up the boys, grabbed us dinner for the game, and then picked up Mike from work to head down to the stadium. It was 102 at game time. Thank god we were in the shade. This was Lukas' 1st Cards game too. We ended up losing but the boys had fun anyway and that's what matters most.
Sno cones helped us stay cool.
They handed out Carlos Beltran jerseys that night and he just happened to hit his 2,000th hit too!
Saturday we had a surprise 30th birthday party for my brother - outside. It stared at 2 and we were there for about 4 hours. The boys had fun running around with squirt guns my Mom had brought for the kids. It was a hot one again, but at least it was shaded again and had a breeze. I neglected to take pictures as I'd forgotten my camera at home. It was Cardinals themed and we had a pretty cool cake. It was a square with a Cardinals hat (3d) on top.
Yesterday we went to Mike's parents so the boys could visit them and they could swim. I decided to stay inside - I'd had enough heat the past few days. I did manage to write the next update and some of the one after that so it should follow shortly.
Hope all my friends without power are staying cool in this heat!
Sounds like a nice , bu busy, weekend. I spent all day Staurday in the pool just too hot too fast but at least I have power. Some of the places not too far away may not have power until Friday.
I really have no idea what time we woke up each morning, but I think it was around 7am mostly. I usually took a shower after the boys were in bed each night to save time in the morning. The boys would eat yogurt and/or oatmeal every morning, Mike would have coffee, and I’d eat the same as the boys or something else.
Today we were out the door just before 9am to head to MK. Once at MK we headed for FL via the left side of the castle, the path behind. I parked the strollers just past the castle while Mike for FPs for PP. Once Mike returned we headed to Pooh and were in line by 9:30am. We went through the regular line since it wasn’t long and the boys got to play in the interactive queue.
After Pooh we headed to the carousel and were on it by 10am. We were all on originally, but Lukas kind of freaked out so I took him off the ride while Mike & Dylan rode.
After the carousel we had the boys’ pictures taken with the Sword in the Stone, which has become another tradition of ours. Dylan doesn’t need help getting up there anymore. L
After pictures we headed to one of Dylan’s favorites, IASW. I swear this is his favorite ride. I know we rode it at least once every time we were in MK this trip. And I think I have enough pictures of it to make a slide show of the whole ride. Although this first time I only grabbed one pic somehow.
After IASW, it was time to use our PP FP, so we went off to Neverland at 10:30am.
My attempt at a family self portarait.
We’d done most of what we wanted in FL, so we headed to Adventureland and took a ride on PoC. I just love this ride. I think it’s my favorite ride in all the parks. I tried out the low light setting on my camera and it does a pretty good job. For sure, the best pics I’ve ever gotten in a dark setting.
After riding we explored the gift shop and Mike & Dylan started sword fighting. Well there just so happened to be a PP photographer (hey, where was he yesterday?) and captured all their playing. The pictures tell a better story than I can recreate.

I'm glad you have power. I was especially thinking of Linny as I know she doesn't and she's one of the ones that was told not to get it back until Friday.

Thanks! We love it too. I'll be taking Dylan in about a month to another game.
Sounds like a fun morning at MK. Love the pictures of the guys sword fighting. It just looks like they were having fun. I will say you need to work on your self portrait skills. Although mine are far from being any better so I should maybe just keep quiet about that...
How did Lukas do at the Cardinals game? We keep talking about taking Cameron to one (well a Twins game actually since we're Minnesotans), but I just don't think he'd sit for it at all. He likes balls and such, but I just don't see him being interested in the game. Maybe if we got him ice cream or something for every inning he'd tolerate it, but I don't see him being all that interested in the game itself.
Love the sword fighting pics!! IASW is not one of my favs but for some crazy reason you just cant go to Disney without goin for the ride!!! Yall MK day is goin great!!

Great pictures from the PoC store, how cool that you ran into a PP photographer, he got some great shots. PoC is one of my favorites too...even though I can never get any good shots in there, you got some great ones though.
Love the pictures of the sword fight...so cute! And your family portrait is hilarious with the boys wearing those hats! It's funny, well not really, but ironic that Lukas freaked out on the Carousel because Hope was doing that for a while. Not really sure why, but she hated that ride for some reason. Now she's totally fine with it, but not a few months ago.
What a great weekend and what a fun time at the Magic Kingdom.
They were both fun.

I know about the self portrait skills. It's hard with kids on your lap and having not too long of arms.
Lukas did good at the game. He paid more attention than I think Dylan did at that age. I always like to take them when it's more than just us too so there are more people to help keep him occupied. As you see in the pictures that sno cone took up a lot.

Small World is growing on me, especially seeing how much the boys love it.

There are more of those to come. It's so hard to get them to look up.
He's done it at the zoo too. Dylan on the other hand wants to go on every carousel he sees.

Glad you all had fun at the ball game, but I can't imagine being there on such a hot day. Those poor people sitting in the sun!
I was so pleased that they wore their hats - helped keep the sun off their face and out of their eyes.
At least it was a night game, so the sun was on it's way down.

Love the pics from the sword fight! How that the PP guy took all those photos.
Also loved your pics from the game. I tried to take Steph as a youngster and she never was interested. David and I try to make a few Astros games but we are kinda like ehh. The Astros aren't very entertaining as of late. But I always have football.
IaSW is not one of my favorites but its a must ride anyway. Just one of those things from my childhood I can't seem to shake.
