The Continuing Story of the Adventures of a CM! - Page 67 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

To be called a "difference maker" is high accolade indeed.
Many people spend their whole lives striving to "make a difference", no matter how big or small, subtle or profound.
To be recognised as someone who "makes a difference" in this short time should be a source of immense satisfaction and pride for you Dawn. Although I get the feeling your humility will certainly make sure such a compliment won't go to your head, and that you will continue, unperturbed, making your own special magic.
To hear you getting praise like this warms my heart.
I hope my DW, DD, and I get to experience some of your "difference making" when we stay at All-Star Sports in December. If we manage to find you, I hope you won't be offended if we deliver a huge hug!!!!
Great comment on being a "difference maker". I have tons of WDW photos of DS. Do you have anything particular in mind that you would to have? Places, events, etc?
What a great compliment! First of all, it really does describe what you are doing. Secondly, to have a leader use those words, really just says what Disney's training is all about. You are very lucky to be such a program.
Obviously you are making an impact - "A difference maker" - those are the kind of comments that get remembered when its time to make permanent employment offers. Here's hoping yours comes soon.
Wow, I just got caught up. Sorry you didn't get picked for CP. Glad you passed your food test.
I am so glad everyone is noticing how perfect you are for Disney. I know you will get to stay on and will get on the CP next year! I am going to try to plan my graduate school graduation trip in Dec 2010, so I hope to see you in the CP then.
I am going to PM you a pic of my DD.

Today had a few fun firsts for me...first time driving a company vehicle, first time finding my way in the utilidors by myself, and first time seeing Wishes from nearly right underneath it!!! I had to run an errand at the MK tonight (what a job, to be able to say, "hey, I'm going to go run an errand over at the Magic Kingdom, be back in a bit!" ) and Wishes started just as I walked out to the vehicle. It was SO gorgeous (and LOUD!) I got verklempt.
It was another crazy night and I wound up in the money room again. A nice CM said, "Gray, I have to tell you something...you know that blog you have???" I was and said, "YOU follow it?" to which he responded (somewhat horrified at the thought that he might be caught on the Passporter boards...J/K! ), "No, but my Aunt does. She talks about you all the time!". Rock. Star. How COOL to meet someone who knows of me from here in such a Small World way! I was thrilled. He was a bit embarassed, I think, but what a nice young man to take the time to tell me about it. So, Aunt Joyce, if you're out there, Brian says hello! (tell him I said to quit beating me to the TCR...he'll know what that means )
The next few days are short turnarounds for me...I got off at 130am and have to be back at 1030am. I get off at 8pm and have to be back in at 6am Monday, so it's a rough couple of days coming up! I have a LOT of work still to do on Magical Moments and other things I'm responsible for, but the last few nights have been crazy and I haven't been able to work on anything other than the operation and Guest satisfaction.
DDs have been doing really well adjusting to my schedule. They have their charts/calendars all set up. We spent some time this week decorating for Fall. It's bit odd being here in the middle of Tropical World and thinking about Autumn or Christmas. I know I'm really going to miss Fall, it's my very favorite season, so I have arranged to go home for a few days in October. I think it would be easier if we were somewhere that we could have our own furniture and pictures and such. Here, we have cheapy paintings of palm trees and beaches in our all white, very summery townhouse. The Fall things are a strange contrast to that. I'm certainly ready for the heat to go away, however. When I think about staying on here in January, all that certainly plays into it...I'm homesick for my house in Ohio where we have 4 seasons, a sledding hill, soft grass...

That is very cool, seeing Wishes from underneath and being famous. I am sorry you are homesick. I think it can be hard on someone that is used to seasons to move south. I grew up where there were seasons and even 10 years later I miss them but I also enjoy being able to do outside things in January where I couldn't back home. You'll find what you enjoy about your "new winter".
whew! getting caught up with you is like reading war and peace in one sitting (the length of it, my dear!) still waiting for a lunch date.....
and i am so glad things are going well for you...yes, you are a difference maker....and yes, you are a rock...star....he he he....love ya! hoping you get some rest in between those crazy double-back shifts.
