Florida flowers and Caribbean cruising - the trip report! THIS SECTION COMPLETED 4/12 - Page 64 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wonderful updates! I'm all caught up again. I agree the Poly bungalows probably won't see me unless someone else stays there and invites me over for a peek! Though I would LOVE to try those swing chairs…just what I want for my front porch!
I'm very interested to see what you think of Citrico's and if it is the same as our last visit there a year ago….

What a great time the two of you had cruising Bay Lake! I have done this on several occasions with the Sea Racers and enjoyed it so much, exploring every part of the lake! I can't believe the bungalow prices which are just ridiculous and obscene!
Great photos of the sunset and looking forward to your take on Citrico's. I've dined there a few times but not since about 2011 or 2012! Always enjoyed my food experiences here!
I was thinking of you today as when I got together with my family for our Easter meal. More like an early dinner as it was around 2 pm or lunch, but the main meal for the day! Anyway it was when it came dessert as my brother and his wife brought a dessert from a bakery from their locale outside of NYC in Westchester County. It was incredible and reminded me of you. It was a Chocolate Mousse Macaroon Cake. It was just amazing! I know how much you love macaroons, so I was thinking of you in this regard! It's a well known bakery and they actually made the wedding cake for Chelsea Clinton's wedding. So it must be good!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Loved the pictures of the Poly, makes me even more excited as we have a few days booked there in August and I cannot wait to see it. Your lunch at the Kona looked delicious.
What a perfect afternoon, love the pictures from the boat. I have to agree, the bungalows look beautiful but the points / cost is insane....I think someone needs to hit the lotto and throw a Passporter party at the bungalows....lol
Beautiful shots of the sunset, looking forward to hearing how you enjoyed Citricos.

I must admit they do look amazing - and wouldn't it be cool to have one yourself?

Hopefully coming right up, if I can post it - the Internet at the airport is a bit hit or miss. We're still stuck on the Isle of Man, after having been due home last night, as there's thick fog and no planes can land.

They are just outrageous, aren't they?

I keep trying, but those lotto numbers never seem to want to cooperate!

Hopefully coming up, if the Internet here stays up...
Sunday 22 February – part eight: a hit or a miss for Citrico’s, nine years on?
We headed over to Citrico’s and quickly found Bruce and Marta. They were chatting away to the Cast Members here, as they tend to know people just about everywhere, and I think, if I remember right, Bruce once worked here.
We were seated at a table, where you could just see the castle, which made it a perfect spot for viewing Wishes later. I suspect that was something to do with the fact we were here with Bruce and Marta, that’s the sort of power they have.
We settled down to browse the menu, and I have to say, it was a good one, with plenty of choice for both of us. I struggled to decide on my appetiser, but after some help from Bruce and Marta, who are very familiar with the menu here, as we they often dine here, I went for the smoked wild mushroom bisque, hand foraged wild mushrooms, cream sherry, crème fraiche, pepper cress and arbequina olive oil. Bruce reassured me that this was a very light dish, as I didn’t want a repeat of last night at the California Grill, where I was quite full after just appetiser, but he was right. This wasn’t heavy at all, and was beautifully flavoured.
Mark went for the slow-roasted Berkshire pork belly, with Anson Mill cheese grits, smoked Jalapeno, sweet onion and hibiscus BBQ sauce, and he really raved about how much he loved this dish.
For entrée, I knew what I wanted as soon as I saw the menu. I had the oak grilled Florida swordfish with Provencal vegetables, plump Israeli couscous and bright citrus-marinated shellfish frutti de mare. This was one of the best entrees I’ve had in a long time. I could not fault it at all and it was a straight 10. The flavours were just beautiful and it was so light to eat. It really was heavenly.
Mark went for the oak grilled fillet mignon with crushed Yukon gold garlic potatoes, peppadew pepper, caramelized onions, broccoli rabe and Cabernet reduction.
Dessert also presented us with quite a choice, which was nice, given the issues we’d had finding something we’d want at the California Grill. After a lot of debate, I went for the tropical fruit crème brulee with mango and assorted berries. Now I love my crème brulee, so this would be quite a test, but I’m pleased to report they passed it with flying colours.
Mark decided to get the warm chocolate-banana torte with vanilla ice cream and handcrafted Belgian couverture chocolate crown, and wow, look what arrived!
Isn’t it just amazing? Mark didn’t eat the crown, so it was still sitting there at the end of the meal, and while I usually would oblige, given it was chocolate, I was comfortably full from our wonderful meal, and didn’t want to make myself feel overly full.
I managed to snag a couple of shots of Wishes, but unfortunately they weren’t very good, given that we had a lot of light inside the restaurant.
Our server Kiera was absolutely wonderful. She was the sort of server who just quietly appeared whenever the water or wine needed topping up. I honestly don’t recall seeing her during the meal whenever she wasn’t at our table, so I have no idea how many she was dealing with, but as I say, she was always there whenever we needed her.
All in all, we both though that this was a superb meal, and Citrico’s has really redeemed itself in our eyes. It’s so sad how you can have a terrible experience at a restaurant, and it puts you off returning for so long, but in fairness, when there are so many other wonderful restaurants at Disney, it’s easy not to return to somewhere that didn’t deliver for you in the past.
Citrico’s
Appetiser 9 10
Entrée 10 10
Dessert 9½ 10
Service 9 9½
Atmosphere 9½ 9½
Value for money 9 9½
Average score: 9.54
By the end of the meal, the jetlag was really catching up with Mark, and he actually ended up dozing at the table after we’d finished dessert, bless him. We said our goodbyes to Bruce and Marta, and headed off to the monorail station…
When we got there, Mark realised that he’d managed to leave my Olaf statue and toy package by our table, so that woke him up, as he headed back to get it. On the way, we saw Bruce and Marta again, and said a second round of goodbyes.
We lucked out, and when we got to the monorail station, the next one was just pulling in. We managed to snag seats, and set off. My goodness, the crowds at the Magic Kingdom really were something! People really squeezed themselves into our car, and I was glad we were sitting down, as for those standing, it can’t have been pleasant.
We got off at the Contemporary, and headed back to the room. We went to bed, after watching the Oscars for a few minutes. I have never actually seen any of the ceremony, as I’m just not that interested to stay up half the night. I have a friend at work, who’s actually taking tomorrow off, as she loves her movies and will be doing exactly that. Usually, all we ever see are snippets in the morning news, so it was neat to at least see a few minutes of it before we crashed.
The weather today was hot and sunny with temperatures in the low 80s. The best thing today was being able to cheer the runners on. The worst thing today was not feeling up to going to Universal. The funniest thing today was Mark’s cone hat of course! Today we tried Citrico’s nine years after our first meal there And the result was we absolutely loved it, and the experience was 100 times better than the last time we were there. The most magical moment today was being out on the water in our boat.
