Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 64 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you were able to switch to the a la carte menu, I would have thought that it would have been three types of dessert as well, definitely confusing by how they describe it.
Lukas is killing me with his faces!!! OMG, LOVE it!!!
I so have been wanting to eat at HBD just for that cobb salad. Did Mike like it??
This day is turning out to be a rough one, but you got so many funny shots of the kids.
We have yet to do that meet with McQueen and Josie would just loose her mind if she saw him. Where is that??
I'm guessing this wasn't the day with the parade, or was it? This is still your first day right?
Yes Mike did like the salad. I've had it a few times in the past as well - always good! I love how fine everything is chopped and if you don't like something (like me - no bleu cheese) they'll leave it off. They mix it table side for you too.
McQueen & Mater are just past Phineas & Ferb, near the Muppets exit. If you come out of Muppets and are going down, look right and there they are.
This was not the day of the parade. That would be Friday and this is still Tuesday.

Thank you! On both accounts.

They definitely got better. I guess we needed a little down time and he needed a cat nap as they'd been up since about 4:45am themselves.
Wow you guys went all out that first day!! Sorry about the rain, but it didn't seem to stop you all from getting a lot done. I WILL get to HBD one of these days for the cobb salad. Maybe if free dining comes out I'll add it as a lunch.
Love Lukas's face on the bus and 'crabby Dylan's' face is priceless too!! My boys are looking forward to making a droid this trip. Tatooine Traders is one of my fave gift shops.
That summer brew recipe does sound good! Think I'll make a batch of that for our summer BBQ.
Glad you're feeling better. Sounds like a good but long first day. I have to say I'm amazed at how grown up Dylan looks! And I remember when the Backlot Tour was good. Now, it's just something to do to kill a little time. So disappointing.

Mickey's so happy to see me back, he can barely contain himself!
I am just loving all of the Lukas hat pictures! I think it is so cute when little boys love to wear hats. It sounds like you made good on your day even with the rain and crabby start.
Sorry you had a reaction to the antibiotics they had you on. Not a fun way to spend the weekend. I hope the sinus problems don't get worse before you're put on another form of treatment.
Looks like you were able to fit in a little fun at DHS. Even with the rain.
WOW! Big first day, hate that yall had rain. Love the pics of the kids....too cute, even the crabby face one That lightsaber did look huge! Hope yall make it on TSMM!

Crabby Dillen's face is hilarious...if only my boys could look so adorable when they're crabby!
Your summer brew sounds a lot like our "garbage dump" - we used to make it in a clean garabage can back in college.
We didn't do the backlot tour in 2010 (acutally, we didn't do anything other than have dinner, walk around overwhelemed, let Nolan and Brian ride Star Tours and stand in a ridiculously long line to meet Buzz and Woody (well over 60 minutes) before giving up and heading back to our hotel. DHS is the park I'm most nervous about this trip. The sky in your pictures? It's what the sky looked for most of our time at that park. When the sun came it, it was during the heaviest of rains.
Nolan made a light saber (or light savior as he still calls it) on our last trip and it quickly became an "outdoor only" toy.
Hope you're feeling better and the heat doesn't cause the hives to flare back up again. Aveeno's baby line is awesome - I still use it on my ownself.
We had a really nice couple of days here - Monday we woke to a freezing house as the tempature dipped to 44 overnight. The high temp that day was 74. Yesterday was a bit warmer at 78. It was nice because the cooler weather allowed our pool temp to cool from the way too warm 88 down to a more reasonable temp of 78. Today we're in the upper 80's and by tomorrow, they're predicting we will get into the triple digits - great practice for our upcoming trip!
Can't wait to read more!

Evan fell asleep during our meal on the first day to WDW last fall - just like Dylan. It is just so much for them. Glad he perked up a little after HBD. Back in October they still had volunteers for the backlot so maybe it was because of the rain?
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Sounds like you had a very full arrival day! Our arrival days don't really allow for any time in the parks, since we come from Seattle. We can never arrive earlier than about 4PM, and I hate using a whole day of park ticket for just a couple of hours.
David and I were both chosen to help with the show thing for the Backlot Tour in 2010, and in 2011, they also selected volunteers from the line to demonstrate the different techniques. It's weird that they didn't this time. I wonder if something happened or if they just couldn't find any volunteers? I remember thinking though, in 2010, that there used to be a lot more to the ride. I rode it when I was 9, on my first trip to the park. I just chalked it up to a kids garbled memory though. Maybe I wasn't wrong?
Glad that the dinner gave you a bit of rest to continue on and have some more fun. Great pics, but I especially like the one of Dylan with the Star Tours glasses on.
Too bad about F! but sounds like it was for the best and you had fun regardless.
