Halloween, Hawaii and holiday celebrations - THIS SECTION COMPLETED 12/27 - Page 64 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I got so behind! I caught up a bit last night, and now I'm finally caught up completely!
Love the photos of an empty World Showcase! That's one thing I don't think I'll ever get to see since my kids are sleepy heads with the time difference!
Probably not - I've been noticing that trait from your trip report...

Hope you have a good time browsing the local shops for your birthday! For me, a quiet day taking my time is the perfect birthday present! Have a wonderful day!
Oh I did - it was lovely there, as it was so quiet, and usually it's mobbed up there, so we could browse in peace.

I love that extra hour of sleep in the fall. Sounds like you all got the best benefit from that extra hour, a wee bit more sleep. I love all your pictures of a deserted WS.
What a wonderful meal, I am definitely looking forward to getting there (we actually had an ADR when we were there in October and then we actually cancelled - I know insane right, but it was worth it as it gave us a redo at the F&WF after our disaster on Saturday), plus I do not think Jasmine would have ever forgiven me if I went to try the newly refurbished CG without her

I can understand that, having been reading your trip report. The Food and Wine Festival definitely needed a re-do, given the first attempt, which was not good!

Sunday 3 November – part two: Aurora knows where Aulani is…
We checked in for the Princess Storybook breakfast, and were taken inside almost immediately to meet Belle…
She even posed for a photo for me!
We were shown to our table…
… and not long after we sat down, we had the first Princess procession…
Mark noticed that the line for the buffet was practically non-existent at the end of this procession, so up we went to sample the offerings. I concentrated pretty much on the smoked salmon, cheese, and some of the cakes, although there was also yoghurt, cereal, and fresh fruit. It was a pretty extensive selection, and all very good.
You also get a skillet brought to the table, made up of eggs, potatoes, bacon, and sausage. I did ask for a separate one, but it didn’t turn up, so I had to collar our server Rebekka to remind her. She was in training, and I think it’s fair to say she has a bit to learn. We tried to engage her in conversation about Oslo, as we’ve been there, but she really wasn’t interested, which surprised me, as that’s usually one of the things we love about World Showcase.
The princesses were all utterly charming, and were very much in character, chatting away happily to us, although Aurora did have to correct herself. I told her we were flying to Hawaii and Aulani tomorrow and she said “oh that’s wonderful” and then said “wherever that is…”!
We didn’t feel that we were rushed in here, so we were surprised that when we left here, we’d done the meal and seen all the princesses in literally about 35 minutes, as it felt like longer than that. It also wasn’t packed in here, which surprised us, given how hard it is to snag an ADR in here.
We were certainly surprised by the check, and I can tell you that it wasn’t a good surprise. The total came to almost $80 for the two of us, and compared to the $52 we paid for lunch yesterday at the Crystal Palace, that’s a heck of a lot of money for just a breakfast. Don’t get me wrong – it was very nice, I’m just not sure it was worth that much.

When we came out of there, we wandered back around World Showcase…
On the way back to the International Gateway, we found Mr. Smee, so we said hello to him!
Mmmm...breakfast looked great...smoked salmon sounds so good right now!
It's funny, I've just been checking smoked salmon is on our online shopping order for tomorrow night as that's our traditional Christmas breakfast whenever we're at home!

I have always thought that restaurant would be gun to try...very pricy though!
It is. I wouldn't want to eat there if I wasn't on the Dining Plan.
Holy wow, $80 for breakfast for the two of you? I didn't realize Akershus was that expensive! I know we had breakfast there in 2008 or 2009 but I don't remember it being that pricey back then
I hope you did eventually get your meatless skillet! I didn't realize there was such a price difference between Akershus & CP! It's the Princess differential I guess!
I've only eaten there twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. But both meals have been some of the best character interactions we've ever had. And they were both quite relaxing, for a character meal anyway. I'd do that one again - should we ever need another Princess fix! Glad you enjoyed it as well, despite it's high cost.
