As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Very nice safari and photos! The tree you asked about is a baobab tree. There are several scattered throughout Animal Kingdom, especially on the safari.

Glad you enjoyed your KS ride! I always hope for a lion sighting but it's 50/50 that you'll get to see them. Dole Whip sounds good to me for a lunch offering.
I had the exact same experience with the line for FP on my safari - was shocked to see the line. I guess within your hour time slot, its a bit random as to how many folks show up whenever.
You got some really good photos - not easy from a moving vehicle.

On your next trip, you really must rectify your Tusker House omission - the food is excellent, and its the best character meal I've experienced.

I really like your picture of the Tree of Life! That's too bad there wasn't more activity on the safari but it seems like you saw a lot.
I thought that was a good one as a view that is quite unique rather than the usual on Discovery Island. I was hoping for more activity during KS but overall I was happy!

Very nice safari and photos! The tree you asked about is a baobab tree. There are several scattered throughout Animal Kingdom, especially on the safari.
Thanks for the specific name as I had a feeling you'd know this! Overall a good safari but hoping for more animals.

I've seen the lions on occasion but it's hit or miss and most of the time, they're napping! Can't beat a good Dole Whip at any time of day!

Some great sightings on your two week adventure, your so right it often depends on what side of the vehicle you are on for pictures.
So very true, but I enjoyed it overall as had some good sightings!

Glad I wasn't the only one as I guess this can happen from time to time! Glad I got some good photos as not easy. Love that tree as so Africa and unique! I hope to do TH in the future as I had it booked for my ROL package but went with Tiffin's instead as the price difference wasn't a lot and the ADR times that were available were much better for Tiffin's and closer to dinner time. TH also conflicted with some of my activities.

This Will Be Amazing with A Personalized First Class Experience!
Tuesday, October 10th (Part III) I returned where I had just been at close to the Kilimanjaro Safaris entrance and check in for my tour. I was looking forward to this as a new offering in Disney. It is the “Caring for Giants” tour. This looks so good and I can thank Cam on the board for sharing her experience with this in her TR. Even better is the price as only $30 for a one hour tour.
It was about 12:45 pm and I checked in for my 1 pm tour. I may have had to fill out a waiver, but not sure as several months ago. One thing I was told about this specific tour today was that I would be the only one on it! How cool is this! My own private tour! This will be amazing with a personalized first class experience. I certainly wasn’t expecting this!
Shortly, once it was close to 1 pm, I was met by another CM, Kendall who would drive me to the backstage area for the tour. We walked through the backstage area and to the small bus we’d be going in to the area in Kilimanjaro Safaris to see the elephants up close. During the walk, he gave me some info about some of the backstage areas and I saw The Lion King as well as Pandora areas from here. Pandora looked quite different and as you know, photos are are not allowed in the backstage areas!
We got on the bus and took the ride to where I’d enter for my tour and the observation area for the elephants. During the ride, Kendall gave me some good info on Animal Kingdom, the elephants and other aspects of Disney. Once, we arrived he let me out and I had to take some stairs to the observation area. I was met here by another CM Connor, who would be my guide on this tour. Not a lot of walking around as we’re pretty much in one general area.
Connor gave me a lot of good information regarding the elephants in Animal Kingdom and their care as well as other species on the KS savanna. He was very good but had only been working at Disney for a short time. He was also quite passionate about his job. During the tour, I was in view of many elephants and I was taking photos while Connor was providing me information on various elements of it. He said feel free to do so as you don’t want to miss the photo ops!
So, here we go with the Caring for Giants photo coverage and there are quite a few. Even better, as I was quite close and perhaps about 75 feet away from them or a bit less. That is close in elephant viewing! I told Connor I was looking forward to seeing the baby Stella and he could pretty much guarantee that she’d be making an appearance!
My first elephant sighting of the tour and much more to come!
Not the view I was hoping for!
Soon a small herd of pachyderms gathered in the viewing area and were guarding something, which you’ll see soon.
I loved seeing the elephants up close like this and much better with this perspective as opposed to a moving vehicle with Kilimanjaro Safaris. Even though I enjoy KS so much!
Now you see what they are guarding as Stella makes her appearance! She is just nine months old.
This was the highlight of my experience!

After, a lot of viewing of the elephants and enjoying every bit of it, Connor brought me over to another area close by to meet another CM on the tour. She was Lizelle and talked to me and gave me great information on the conservatory methods that are being used in Africa for the elephants. In other words, their safe treatment and the cracking down on poachers and hunters who just do this for the ivory. She was great and I learned a lot from her. I think she was from Namibia but I could be wrong.

I received this at the end of my tour!
My tour was now over and I enjoyed it so much! I thanked Connor and Lizelle for such a great experience. Even better as it was an unintentional private tour I received. I then made my way down below and met my driver Kendall once again who brought me back to the back entrance of the Animal Kingdom. We talked a bit on the ride back and on the walk in the backstage area as well. I told him I learned a lot and enjoyed this so much and glad I did the tour. In a short time, I reentered the Animal Kingdom near Kilimanjaro Safaris.
There was still plenty ahead for me in my Animal Kingdom day and so much of it will be new for me. It was just after 2pm.
