As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Monday 4 May – part four: pretty good for a first timer!
The food at the Hollywood Brown Derby was superb. I have been trying to come back here for years, but Mark isn’t that enthused by it, so I was really looking forward to it and I knew Wendy was. Almost her first words this morning had been “no migraine is keeping me away from the Hollywood Brown Derby” and it didn’t, thank goodness.
For appetiser, I went for the Maine fruit wood-smoked salmon with caponata, crack pepper, dill marscapone and crostini, while had the cannelloni bean and applewood smoked bacon soup with caramelised balsamic onions. The salmon was almost a dish on its own. It was very filling and a good choice.
For main course, I had the famous Brown Derby Cobb salad, mine with finely chopped greens, egg, tomatoes, crumbled blue cheese, avocado, chives and Cobb dressing, but no turkey breast or bacon on mine. Wendy went for the grilled rib-eye steak with arugula, crispy sweet onions, gorgonzola, red bliss potatoes and oven-dried tomato vinaigrette. As for the salad, that was pretty filling too. I couldn’t quite finish it, although I did give it my best shot. I think it’s a combination of the avocado and blue cheese that makes it so filling.
For dessert, we were done, but being on the Deluxe Dining Plan, Karen and Steve had to have dessert and Angie went for the banana white chocolate toffee tower on cocoa-almond cookie and bananas “foster”. We all tried bits of what was on offer and Angie’s was absolutely divine. I couldn’t stop eating it, it was so lovely and light. It didn’t appeal to me on the menu, but boy, it was good and I suspect we’ll come back here in December and I will save space to try it then.

The bill for the two of us came to $65, which we thought was excellent, considering that it was a signature restaurant.
Towards the end of the meal, we were talking about our plans for the rest of the day and trying to persuade Sue and Angie to come over to see IllumiNations later, but they weren’t sure and part of the problem was that their Fastpasses for Toy Story Mania were for something like 4.30. No sooner than they said that, Karen and Steve offered them their Fastpasses that were good now. Aren’t PassPorters the best?
On the way out, we ran into more PassPorters, including Bob, Lesley, Sharon, Marie and Maria and got a few more photos before we had to say goodbye to Karen and Steve, as we wouldn’t see them again. It was sad to see people leaving so soon and made us realise that it wouldn’t be long before we would be heading home as well.
We headed off to Toy Story Mania and, on the way there, we saw a very odd sight:

When we got there, we walked straight on. We let the Toy Story Mania virgins, Wendy and Sue, ride together and they didn’t do too badly. Wendy got 114,000 on her first attempt, while Sue got 69,000. Angie got 111,000 and I was delighted with my progress – up to 91,000, which was a big step forward for me, but go Wendy, on her first go!
We were heading toward the front of the park and thought we would check out the Great Movie Ride, figuring it would have quite a wait, but not a bit of it, as we walked straight on. I have never done that before. We got the gangster scene and I was at the back of the second vehicle, the first time I have ever been there and it is a very different perspective from there. Sadly, there was no sign of the monster in the Alien scene, which was a bit odd.

Lunch was absolutely fantastic! I still regret not getting that Cobb Salad, however that soup and that steak were so YUMMY!! Thanks Angie for letting us all share your dessert!!
Walking onto to GMR was a highlight. I adore that ride, especially the bit at the end with all the movies.
