Taggin' Along Compliments of Disney! - Page 60 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Magical Express was picking us up around 9:00am for our 12:00pm flight, and we wanted to try to get a nice breakfast beforehand. This is always the sad part, packing everything up and saying good-bye to the room. I always do that…”Good-bye room, it was nice knowing you, and we’ll be back.” Everything was done so quickly, and we were out the door and headed for The Captain’s Grill at the YC before we knew it.
We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to get a table or not, but once we got there and saw how absolutely dead it was we knew we would be seated immediately…and we were. We sat down and I decided to go for the buffet, that way I can get a little for me and a little for Hope, but my mom ordered the waffle with sausage, and just as I was about to go take pictures of the buffet with my mom’s camera she tells me she packed it in her suitcase which had now been checked for the flight. My camera was packed in her carry-on which was all the way at the bottom of the bag, and I didn’t feel like fighting with everything to get it out. Needless to say, this is unfortunately an update sans pictures…so sorry guys. Like you, I love trip reports with tons of pictures, and this time I goofed (a recurring theme for this update).
Moving on…even though this restaurant was empty, the food was very good. My mom even asked for her waffle to be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and she got just what she wanted. I would definitely eat here again, it’s almost as if people don’t even know it exists.
We finished up our meal with time to spare and were outside waiting for our bus before we knew it. The trouble with these short trips is that they go by way too fast. I honestly felt like we had just arrived, but I knew we’d be heading back again soon, so that made it not so bad. The bus arrived right on schedule, and after loading all of us on, we made one more stop at the Boardwalk, and then we were off to the airport.
Everything was going so smoothly since we had done Early Bird Check-In with Southwest. Once at the airport we checked our flight to see what that status was, and our flight was delayed 10 minutes…no big deal, and because of that we even had time to do a little shopping before we headed through security, which went even smoother than I expected. Here’s where things went down hill. I don’t know what happened, I mean, I’ve been through this airport more times than I can remember, and for some reason I headed for the first monorail train that I saw coming. Once we got off and I was trying to find our gate, I realized that those numbers were nowhere to be found, and that’s when I realized I took the wrong train.
So with a little bit of time to spare, we turned around and headed back to the main terminal only to get off the wrong train and get back on the right train that would lead us to our plane. Thinking that was our only set back of the day, we got off the train and headed for our gate. I think our gate was 27 (I can’t remember because I didn’t write it down), but when you look up at the sign it says Gates 1-29, so for some reason, maybe because I was just having an off day, I walked towards our gate and sat in the area for Gate 29, and looked out to see if our plane had landed yet, but there was no plane next to our little tunnel. Which of course there wouldn’t be because we were sitting at the wrong gate!
Anyway, oblivious to what was going on, I sat down and began trying to keep Hope occupied. After a little while I said to my mom, “They had the delay time wrong…it’s going to be later than 10 minutes”. What a dumb a** I was! I decided to stop at the bathroom and take Hope so I could change her diaper, and when I got back my mom decided to do the same thing. So there I am sitting with Hope on my lap reading her a book, when all of a sudden my mother comes running over to me and asks, “Why are you just sitting there?!?” And I must have looked at her like she had three heads because I didn’t respond, I was too confused by what she was asking me. “They announced our names over the loud speaker! We’re supposed to be at Gate 27!”
With that I jumped up and gathered everything as quickly as I could and ran over to gate 27. The flight attendant at the gate said we were the last ones to board, and they were just about to close the doors. I couldn’t believe it! How stupid was I? We were sitting there with Gate 27 in our sight, and I didn’t even put two and two together. The worst part was that we had A boarding passes, and we were the last people to board. I wasn’t sure if we were even going to be able to sit together, but thankfully there were 3 seats together at the very back of the plane. At that moment I didn’t care where I was sitting, as long as it was in a seat on that plane!
We just sat there trying to relax after the panicky ordeal, and finally just looked at each other and started laughing. I think I must have apologized 50 times to her, but everything worked out in the end. Again, Hope was an excellent passenger, and slept almost the entire flight. I never even needed to use the DVD player I brought…figures!
We landed ahead of schedule, even though our flight was delayed by 10 minutes, and when my mom called my dad, he told her that he was there to pick her up because he wanted to take her somewhere. I thought it was kind of weird, he could have just come with Chad to save some gas, but little did I know that he was actually taking her to the nursing home to see my Nanny who was getting really sick. Chad never told me what was going on when he picked me up, even though he knew, he wanted my mom to tell me after she found out, and that’s how my vacation came to an end.
Even though the ending wasn’t as good as the actual trip had been, I wouldn’t trade it in for anything. I had so much fun with my mom and Hope, and now I’m going to be planning our next trip in a couple of months. Yes, as all of you know we will be staying Club Level at AKL for Thanksgiving! I can’t wait, and even though I always say I’m not going to do it, I plan on writing a trip report for that one as well. This time I won’t pack up the camera until the very last minute!
I hope you all enjoyed this quick little trip, with it’s ups and downs, and hopefully you’ll all join me for the next adventure. Until then, thank you all for following along and allowing me to get to know you and make new friends. That’s the best part about doing this…meeting all of you.
Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us. Even though it was a short trip I enjoyed reading all about your time with your mom and daughter at Disney.
And my goodness that was quite the ending! I would have freaked out! Glad there were three seats together and that Hope had a good flight home.
Can't wait for your next TR and I bet you are so ready for your next trip being the lucky one you are staying club level AKL!
We hopped on the wrong monorail at MCO on our last trip as well. Sometimes we're just moving too fast for our own good. Sorry to see it come to an end. But I really enjoyed coming along on your little trip. And you can bet I'll be tagging along for your AKL Concierge level trip.
Okay....all I could think about while reading this was.....the scene from Home Alone...running through the airport. So glad you got on the plane just in time!!!!
I'm sad to see your TR come to an end, but look forward to your next PTR!! Your breakfast at CG sounded great. What a wonderful trip you had with Hope & your Mom. Sorry you had to come to such sad news though.

Glad to hear Hope's surgery went so well, my sister had that surgery when she was younger and it made all the difference. Thanks for sharing your TR with us, even those short trips are just so magical and how wonderful to be able to share your happy place with your mom and Hope. Definitely great memories.
Wow that was quite an ending! But, I'm glad you were able to get on to the plane and sit together . Sad to see this report come to an end...I have had fun reading along!
Thank goodness your mom heard them calling your names over the speaker! What a wonderful trip you three had...... I look forward to hearing about your next trip...
Glad Hope's surgery went well. Kids are so resilient! Abby had her tonsils and adenoids removed and all she wanted to do was play. You'll see that the tubes will just make a world of difference.
Sorry the ending of your trip was less than magical. I hate rushing to get onto a plane. Nothing like a little stress, espcially with a child in tow!
I look forward to your next PTR... which will start when???? Inquiring minds need to know!
Glad Hope's surgery went well! Sorry for the rushing at the airport and almost missing the flight! And then of course the news! Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us!
What an exciting and interesting end to your trip! Glad you made your flight! so much for sharing your adventure with us and I'm one who will be very excited about reading another of your TRs!
