Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We wandered around and stopped in Morocco for lunch… Tangierine Café. A chicken platter, saffron chicken and 2 bottled waters = $28.33. The food was good. Jan wanted dessert, chocolate cake and baklava… I had coffee with mine!!!

We wandered around EPCOT after lunch, we had no plans until the Osborne Light Meet tonight…
At one point, I called Tara to see if they were near, or coming to EPCOT. Her and Jan enjoy sampling the wines in “the world” [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rofl2.gif[/img] Of course, no answer [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img]

Well, sometimes…
From here, we headed back to the room, once again downloading, recharging, and then headed for MGM and the Osborne Lights meet…
We got to MGM. Made it through the lines and inside, it wasn’t toooo crowded… We stopped at the Darkroom Shop to get Jan a different camera strap just after 5PM. From there we wandered through the shops on that side of the street, browsing for later purchases…
We wandered down to Streets of America and bought a couple of passholder pins, then wandered back up towards the hat. We did take a side trip, I wanted to get a cup of coffee. Jan went looking for the rope at Indiana Jones, she found it…
Well, she pulled it (of course). I got to laughing so hard. She pulled it as a group of people were walking by. One of them watched her, and when the voice came out of the well, the stopped dead and just stared for a moment, then came running over to her… She pulled it a couple of more times and developed quite a crowd around her. They were still playing with it when we left…
Well, it was off to the hat for the meet. As we got there, Terri and “running buddy” Cheryl were there. As we chatted, more folks showed up…

This meet was originally set up for 7PM. Then we found out the park was closing at 7 and moved the meet up to 6, planning to head to the light by 6:30. We dragged our feet because we were waiting for Cheryl and Mark to get there (Cheryl was hosting a DVC meet that she moved up so they could be with us) We started for the lights before they got there because of time…

Towards the end, we were being “herded’ by the CM’s, they were closing the park on us
I should add here, when Cheryl and Mark got there, Cheryl handed out Christmas cards. I stuck mine in my pocket (like a dummy instead of putting it in my pack). As we were being herded out, I realized I had dropped it somewhere. Fortunately, a CM walked with me back through, but we didn’t find it. She said to check with one of the other CM’s, and I asked him. He had an envelope in his jacket pocket and asked me to describe it. I said it was probably to Jam and Bill and he handed it to me… I was so happy because I didn’t want to tell Cheryl I had lost it [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/082502no_prv.gif[/img] I still told her, but it was better that I had found it…
That over, we split up and all headed for AKL, to visit Tara’s home away from home…
Cheryl and Mark were hungry, so Cheryl got us on the list at Boma (Cheryl, Mark, Angie, Jan and I), a new place for Jan and me… We wandered and took a few photos while waited to be called, which wasn’t very long. They said 30 minutes and it was more like 10!

We headed out to the observation area (the only one of mine that came out okay)
We got called in for our dinner, and it was GREAT… well except for our waiter who really stunk… And trust me, the tip reflected it. But the food was fantastic, it’s one we’ll do again and again!!! The bill for the 5 of us was just under $125 after my DDE discount [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/woot.gif[/img]
After food, we visited for a short time with everyone, Tara, Donna, Sheila, and Robin (I think that’s all) and shortly Mark and Cheryl took Jan, me, and Sheila back to our resorts for the night…
Of course, we downloaded, recharged and went to bed…
A fantastic MEET!!!! So glad to meet all those passporters we did and really sorry we didn’t have more time to get with everyone!!!

I'm just catching up with your updates Bill!! I didn't know you guys had come back to the AKL for dinner that night!! I don't think we got back from Epcot till after 11, though.
