As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Wonderful update! I love the WL! We're thinking of doing a split stay next time, WL/Polynesian. Sounds like the switch was easy enough. Looking forward to more!

You are making me more and more excited about our trip to VWL in May!!! I can't wait to sip cocoa and watch EWP!
I loved reading about your one-on-one time with Katie! I can just see her proud little face now walking the halls with her mom in her stocking feet!

Re: Sheriff Robby in the Wild Wild World Day 3 Pt 1 Are there polar bears in AK (updated 3/11)
Day 3 Part 1 Are there polar bears in AK??
After a good sleep, we arose and froze. Despite the fact that we live in the Midwest and it was probably 8 degrees when we left, Monday was mean and cruel. We were lulled into a false sense of security in our cozy room. Sure, the weather guy said Monday would be the coldest but surely nothing could be as bad as home. We dressed in layers and sweaters and coats. Robby’s Pooh hat was an ornament. We brought our Tinkerbell blanket as an extra measure.
Now the covered walkway at the Wilderness Lodge to the Bus Stops is very nice and sheltering. You get all the good things like sun and breeze and not all the bad things like rain and um cold. So for a few seconds we thought that wind is a bit cold but the bus came. Must have been our imagination. Turns out we aren’t quite as imaginative as we thought.
After Sheriff Robby passed out his business cards on the bus (captive audience is a good thing), we arrived at Animal Kingdom for Dad’s 8:30am breakfast with his favorite hero, I mean, character. We hurried to rent our stroller and get to Donald’s Breakfastosaurus. I really disliked the awnings on AK strollers. Unlike the other parks, these strollers have awnings that move much more. I couldn’t put anything at all on top of it for fear of giving one of the kids a Harry Potter scar. Bummer. That’s ok…they will be up and walking so the stroller will be free. Surprise Surprise
I remember reading that AK is one of the hottest parks. I guess they meant during summer. I’m getting a bit chilled as we arrive for breakfast. There will be a wait…feel free to help yourself to some hot chocolate or coffee while you wait. After about 3 minutes of waiting, Bob and I suddenly realized WHY they were serving hot chocolate. WE WERE FREEZING. Now the kids are huddled into the stroller under the Tink blanket. They are very loving kids but Katie and Robby are sitting closer than I’ve ever seen these siblings cuddle. Bob has this look on his face that rivals the “Do I really have to shovel the driveway” plea.
I hand him the pager and offer to get hot chocolate. Being fairly frozen, I do manage to spill it all over my hands and jacket sleeves while pouring. Thankfully, my nerves were also frozen so I didn’t feel anything. The kids get the first cups of hot chocolate which didn’t take long to cool. The pager didn’t go off while I was gone so Bob now offers to get some for us. Still no pager beeps. I had been trying to listen for our name too but not luck. Bob comes back with our cocoa and asks me how hungry I am? We could get back on a bus, ya know.
Being of stubborn stock, I grabbed the pager and went up to the reservations table. Either the girl looked at me and took pity or it really was good timing because BEEP BEEP it’s our seating. I rush back to get Bob and the kids and we waddle into breakfast. After receiving a Sheriff Robby card, our server explains the setup and asks if we want coffee. I’m not sure he ever heard two such enthusiastic responses.
I can’t feel my cheeks!!!!
Sufficiently thawed out and stripped of several layers, we proceeded to eat. Now the food was very good and warming. The breakfast pizza was very good and the potatoes were awesome. I did go back for more hash. The kids made short work of eggs, pancakes and French toast.
Robby wonders if the ketchup at home does the same trick!!!
We love the character meals because the kids of all ages just light up when they come by. Avoiding the thought of leaving a warm room, we really watched the other tables. Adults without kids were getting as excited as our two kids. Not that I have any photo proof but DH loved seeing Donald. I think that is really part of the magic of Disney. It’s ok to be a simple, loving kid here, regardless of what the driver’s license in your pocket says. If the adults didn’t enjoy WDW….generations of kids probably wouldn’t get the chance to experience it for the first time. We let that feeling wash over us and really enjoyed the meal instead of rushing. And the coffee was really good and in to-go cups!
When we are all done, our kind server brings us a signed Happy Birthday card and his cohorts gather to sing. It’s so cool when that happens. Robby thinks he is the only one ever honored with a song. Before braving the elements outside, we make sure everyone is bundled up again. It’s slowly becoming mid morning and we hope for some sun to peak through the trees. At the first stand we pass, Katie begs for a Pluto hat. We had a chance of saying No before she put it on but once we saw the combination of Pluto ears and a mile wide smile, the wallet basically opened itself. Hey it was cold…a hat was a good idea.
Off to do some rides…
