Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: The AP adventure - THREAD 6 OF 6 - TWO UPDATES 2/24
Cheryl-
Thanks so much for your updates! I feel like I'm there with you. The clown slide is so funny. My 11-year-old always notices it when we're taking boats to MGM, and it's his main reason for wanting to stay here. I don't like the looks of it either, and so far I've been able to satisfy him with Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge. Some sacrifice, I know. Thanks again.

Re: The AP adventure - THREAD 6 OF 6 - TWO UPDATES 2/24
Wednesday 22 December – part two: how long does it take to get a drink refill and what bit of “hot” didn’t you get?
We made it to the Concourse Steakhouse before midday and waited for it to open before checking in. We had eaten here twice before and had had good meals both times, but for Joy and her family, this was their first time eating here. We were sure it would be again be a good experience… let’s just say as far as the service goes, it was not a good introduction to this place….
I think the guy we had was called Abed. Yes, I “think” that because we saw so little of him! Now let’s be clear, the Concourse Steakhouse was not busy. There were about a dozen tables in total, absolute maximum, that were occupied and our server only had about of those to attend to. Both Mark and I finished our drinks pretty quickly and then we waited and waited and waited for a refill. In fact, Mark timed Abed and after 10 minutes, he still hadn’t come near out table, so I grabbed another server and asked for a refill. Immediately, our server came across! So it took me to ask someone else for a drink for Abed to notice us? So was he doing something important during that time then? Not at all – he was talking to a friend, that’s what he was doing. I know, because we watched him.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, he also got the orders mixed up when he brought them out, then he mixed up the bills, which we asked to be separate and finally we even got our entrées before we were anywhere near finishing our appetisers. I don’t know about you guys, but I think that’s the height of rudeness.
As for the food, well that was fine, with one exception… I had the onion soup followed by the mahi mahi and Mark had the Caesar salad, followed by the stuffed sirloin steak. I saw it was fine, it was after we both sent our entrées back to be re-heated, as they were both tepid when they first turned up. Once they were both properly cooked, they were very good.

Stuffed sirloin steak
We also had good desserts. I had the chocolate pudding cake, while Mark had the seasonal fruit cobbler. It was listed on the menu as seasonal fruit crisp and Joy made the mistake of asking for that.
Oh boy, did she get a lecture from Abed about how it’s called the seasonal fruit cobbler, not crisp, because the fruit has changed. Oh, whatever, but again, how rude! I think you might have guessed by now that Abed did not get a tip from either ourselves or Joy. I hope maybe he learnt from that. Service like that is unacceptable.
Chocolate pudding cake
Seasonal fruit COBBLER! – note we did ask for it with no ice cream, but hey I ate in on Mark’s behalf!
Joy’s dessert – I don’t remember what she had, but it looked so good, I had to get a photo of it!
Concourse Steakhouse:
Appetiser 8½ 6
Entrée 7½ 8
Dessert 9 7½
Service 0 0
Atmosphere 7½ 7½
Value for money 9 8½
Average score 1 (including service) – 6.58
Average score 2 (excluding service) – 7.90
I’m disappointed that we had such a bad time there, especially as it was Joy’s first time there. Honestly guys, it’s not usually like that and it just goes to show the impact that bad service can have on the whole meal. As Kirk kept saying, service is the most important part of a meal and I think he’s right. The one good thing we can say about this meal is that we had excellent company – we were never short of anything to say each other (not just about the bad service! ) and Joy, Kim and Kirk are all great fun.
Once we escaped the clutches of the evil Abed, we headed back to the lobby for some photos:

A close up of the scene behind us – more decorated goodies!
…and then we dropped Joy and her family off at Fantasia Gardens mini golf, as that was their plan for the afternoon. We had a lovely time with them, it’s just a shame that it was such a poor experience service wise.
Next: Breathless takes our breath away!

Bummer about your service at Concourse! That was our favorite restaurant in '02, and we plan on going back this September. Hope Abed isn't our waiter!!
Glad you were able to spend some time with Joy and her family! More please!!

We've eaten there several times and I agree 100% service makes all the difference.....the food was always good but the service is lukewarm at best.
