A Magical 10 Night Trip, The 10th Month and The Orlando Trifecta- PTR - UPDATED 10/2 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

After All of This and They Still Can’t Get It Right!
Saturday, March 11th First thing I tried to do today was to try to resolve my credit from the B Resort. Although, they did issue one, it was applied to the wrong account, which is now closed. I’m tired of dealing with the B Resort, so instead of calling them again I called American Express in the hopes they can resolve this. After all of this and they still can’t get it right!
I talked to James and told him my situation with the original charge being on my old card and the hotel put the credit on the old card. He confirmed this as there is no way I can get a credit on a closed account. He said I could have a check mailed to me for the credit amount of $140.96 or have the credit transferred to my current card. I chose the transfer, which is what I had the B Resort do originally, but they switched it back. James applied the transfer and it should show up in my account transactions in about 48 hours. I’m glad I finally got this resolved. I will check my account in a few days.
Saturday, March 18th I didn’t check for my credit on my American Express account during the week as somehow I forgot about it. It’s official as I could see there is a credit for the B Resort in the amount of $140.96 dated Tuesday, March 14th. I’m glad this is finally resolved and over with! This shouldn’t have been that difficult for the B Resort to take care of as I’m sure they deal with similar transactions often!
Sunday, March 19th I called Universal Orlando Resorts reservations and inquired about why the rates for the Royal Pacific for my proposed dates of October 4-7 have increased in standard rooms from $243 to $304 per night. Meanwhile, the water view rooms are $267 per night. I talked to Brian and he said these rooms are nearly sold out for my dates, using the “Stay More, Save More” promotion. This is amazing as nearly 7 months out! The water view rooms still have plenty of availability. He mentioned it may be because of the Halloween Horror Nights, which will be occurring during my stay. I told him I’d be going to this and he said it’s a lot of fun.
I was hoping for the $243 per night rate in a standard room, but I was waiting for the billing cycle on one of my credit cards to change over to the next period before making a reservation and putting down a one night deposit. He said I could keep checking back online or calling as some of these rates may open again.
The rate isn’t that bad and a water view room would be nice, but I won’t be spending that much time in my room. I decided to book it. It’s $259 for October 4-5 and $275 for October 6-7 for a $267 average. It is a king bedroom, which I try to get when possible as it makes the room more spacious than having two queens. Total was $1,202.40 for four nights. Put down $291.60 for a one night deposit.
I like the tropical feel to the resort and has lots of amenities with many restaurants, lounges, shops and pools. Also, included with my reservation is early park entry like Disney’s Extra Magic Hours. I also receive the Unlimited Universal Express Pass, which is a great perk and is worth $89 per day. This is included if staying at the Hard Rock or Portofino resorts as well. This makes up more than the difference between my hotel and the Sapphire Falls Resort, which is a moderate. I also can take advantage of the boat transportation from my resort to Universal, which I’m sure I’ll use.
Later in the day, I began making some of my ADRs for the Universal portion of the trip. I made one through Open Table for Emeril’s Tchoup Chop Restaurant in my resort. I booked it for my arrival day on Wednesday, October 4th at 7 pm. It’s Asian style cuisine and the décor looks quite amazing from the photos I’ve seen on the Royal Pacific website.
There are a few more eateries in Universal I’m interested in and I checked into them and the menus. Unfortunately, some don’t take reservations or can’t be booked yet. BICE at the Portofino resort looks like a great possibility and is upscale Italian cuisine. It has a great menu with Cheryl and Tara giving it great reviews in their TRs. I plan to dine here on my last night on October 7th. The booking period is 60 days out, so I’ll wait.
There are a couple of restaurants on CityWalk that I may try. One is The Cowfish, which has an interesting combination of sushi and burgers on their menu. Tara and Cheryl liked this place as well. I will probably go here for lunch on my first full day on October 5th. I also may try Emeril’s on CityWalk as well for lunch on my last day on October 7th, but not sure yet as I plan to have a big dinner at BICE that night, so we’ll see. The Cowfish doesn’t take reservations, but I’ll be going here for lunch when CityWalk isn’t busy like it is at night. Emeril’s does take reservations but I’m going to wait on this one.
Another one is Anojito’s Authentic Mexican Cuisine also on CityWalk. Unfortunately, they are only open for dinner and may be difficult to squeeze this one in. There is one open day for dinner which is Thursday, October 5th, but that’s the night I’m doing Halloween Horror Nights and I probably won’t have time to have a nice sit down dinner beforehand. That’s why I am having lunch this day at The Cowfish. I will probably have some small bites back at my hotel before going to Halloween Horror Nights or perhaps in Universal.
There is one more restaurant I would like to try and this one is at the Sapphire Falls Resort. The Strong Water Tavern has a tapas and ceviche menu and focuses on cuisine of the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America. They are also known for having an extensive variety of rums. No reservations are accepted, but it shouldn’t be a problem. There is indoor and outdoor seating with the latter overlooking the lagoon. I think this could be a good choice. Earlier for lunch I will be dining at Sharks Underwater Grill at SeaWorld and this may be a good place after a big lunch as they feature tapas and small bites.
NEXT: More Reservations and Transportation Options!

Congrats on booking Royal Pacific! Good luck making dining choices.
I think the RP is a great choice as affordable with a deluxe resort and certainly not in a WDW price range which is great! It's why I no longer stay at WDW deluxes as they've gotten out of control with the rates and don't know what they're thinking.
The dining will take some time but will be done as some I can make in the future and the others will be walk up and shouldn't be a problem dining there. Either way, I'm looking forward to this and will dine at these places. I'm certain I will get these for the most part!

Glad you finally got the credit! Congrats on getting so much planning for Universal done!
The credit with the B Resort was a hassle to say the least. I'm glad AMEX took care of it and so easily and why the B Resort couldn't do it correctly I can't figure out. I loved the resort and no problems with the exception of this.
Got a lot done with the Universal end of my trip and progressing quite well!

Congrats on getting your refund finally! Oh, we loved BICE! Enjoy! Be sure to go to the Chocolate Factory just to walk through the shop. The food isn't bad, but not worth dumping something you really want. But the DESSERTS are to die for! And they have quite the chocolate shop!

The refund was an ordeal and glad I finally got it corrected! Really looking forward to BICE as I've heard so many good things about it. That's Toothesome you're referring to and may check it out, but on't eat there as the menu doesn't look that great to say the least! Not my place.

Definitely and an understatement for certain! Just can't believe all of this as it could have been resolved quite easily.

I love reading how you plan and all the little details that are involved! I'm especially interested in your Universal portion of your trip. We've only done one day visits to Universal (and then just to the HP parts, as we are HUGE HP fans!) I would love to do a multi day visit there though, so I'll be reading your PTR and TR for tips and inspiration.
The Halloween party/tour sounds fun, but too scary for me as I am a big old weenie!

I love doing the planning and seeing how it all falls into place! Much more to this over the next few weeks and hope to complete this PTR before my trip! Just 34 days now! This is my first stay at Universal, so all new to me as well.
