Did You All Take STUPID Pills This Morning?!....an Oct. '16 PTR - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The 17-yr old is done growing I'm pretty sure, at least I don't think he'll have any more spurts that leave his clothing in the dust. He's been holding steady on his height for over a year now. The younger one, however, despite his dismal insistence that he will never grow another inch in his life, I'm quite sure he hasn't really hit that "spurt" yet. He's def. still growing, as I seem to have to buy pants for him every few months lately.
Hey, he may be wilting in the heat in the parks, but at least he'll look good doing it!

I like that, good one! Too funny, like something out of The Wizard of Oz!

What is it about teen boys and hoodies as coats in dead of winter? I was amazed my two made it through. When my oldest was in hs...he and his buds ONLY wore shorts. Dead of winter...yeah, the whole bunch walking around in shorts and hoodies with snow on the ground.
My two continued to grow until about 21 or 22...albeit at a much slower rate than previously.
And there is Alien's pink MagicBand, in all its glory! DH's has part of a childhood nickname, that is sometimes still used on him. He opted for that on this band (we still have a set from the spring that we never used, so we'll be sporting two each).
Slinky's foam mattress topper also came, yesterday. They said it would be compressed for shipping and would need a few days to fully expand to its normal size. They weren't kidding, and I was skeptical at first, but it's already looking normal and quite plush, so I think he'll sleep quite well on it.
And, his swim trunks came the day before! (what a great week for mail in our household!!). Despite his doubt that the size I ordered him was the right fit, they are actually perfect, so I don't have to do any exchanging. Now just waiting on Alien's shorts, and everything I've ordered will have arrived! A few more things to pick up at Target this weekend, snacks the week before we leave, and voila!.....DONE!

Yay! Disney mail! We bought the youngest 2 DGS' special magic bands for their trip in January....and DGS3 is pink as well as it's his favorite color. he will tell you that he likes Skye from Paw Patrol the best (because she flies) and she wears pink. I think he secretly believes that pink will help him fly.

I have to comment on the teenage boy fashion, because I have 2 teenagers at home. The 13 year old is all about having everything look perfect. His hair must be just right, his jeans must not be baggy, his t-shirts must be the perfect fit (not too tight, not too big), etc. The oldest, who's 16, has the most boring wardrobe ever. He only wears t-shirts that are black, or gray, or navy blue. He only likes beige shorts, no other color, just beige. You will never see him in a polo shirt, EVER. Drives me nuts.

Thought I'd toss in a mini-update. Not a whole lot going on, but getting more excited every day! I'm actually really having to slow down and make myself savor this pre-trip anticipation; work has been VERY busy this month (I've been doing 6 days/week) and I'm just wiped by the time I get home. I was hopeful that I'd start running again after the stent came out, and while I'm feeling great in that regard, I just don't have the energy for it. I'm on my feet and moving all day at work, so it's not like I'm getting zero exercise, but I'll tell you, the running will have to wait until after vaca! Our foliage is stunning right now, so I may try to get in some after-work walking.
So, I guess I should 'fess up and let you know about a change I made recently, and also will, at this time, refer you back to the title of this PTR. Because it was, by any account, a "stupid pill" moment. Well, it'll seem that way, but it wasn't to me. Anyway, I decided to cancel our dinner ADR at 'Ohana......
The reason being, it's pricey ($40/person), and the only one of us who is going to eat very much is Buzz. I have a teeny appetite, and believe it or not the boys aren't ravenous eaters (wait.....they're teen boys....isn't that contradictory?!). By the time we're done there I've dropped almost $200, and I just cannot justify that expense, no matter how good the food. And I think we can all agree, anything about our trips that causes us stress, is best knocked off the itinerary. So I canceled and haven't felt badly about it for even one moment. I'm still trying daily for Afternoon Tea, but not holding my breath, especially since there's really only one day that I'd want to do it. But, in the end, there are PLENTY of places to eat at WDW, and we'll have a great time regardless!
I did my final shopping this weekend for the non-food items I needed to pick up. Got a box of these:
These are great to keep in my bag, or even a pocket if I'm traveling light. I like to use them before eating; I'm not one of these germophobe people, but when your hands have been holding bars and railings that a thousand other people have been holding, well...... Ew. They're also great for a quick clean-up after a particularly sticky or greasy snack.
And!....I got myself some new shades. I love my current pair but have had them almost two years and wear them almost daily, so I thought a new vacation pair was in order.
Notice the $3.00 price tag..... Brand new, from Goodwill. Yeah, baby.
Plans are looking good! Nice buy with the $3.00 shades!
