Eating My Words PTR: Two Foodies Cancel 2016 Trip (10/7/16) - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

ADRs look great and I think I know you well with the contest and enjoyed doing it! Once, I finish my cruise TR I think I can reveal my ADRs but there are a few up in the air with all the new openings and the ROL in the AK! Better choice with V&A's and QVR for T-Day! I absollutely love that experience, so much more than the main dining room. I use my Disney Rewards Visa points for this and although the wallet takes a hit, it's not as bad as it could of been! Still up in the air, so we'll see!
Not sure when the TR will be finished but probably 5-6 posts left, then I can begin the one for my Fall trip!
Take a look at my TR as I've updated it recently and I love the comments!!!

And a very happy Golden Birthday to you and 190-something one to your royal twin.
Are you dining in the QVR as one would deem appropriate considering? As I recall, you've celebrated your mutual birthday there previously.
I like to go visit Talking Mickey to celebrate our shared birthday. He certainly is aging well, I must say. You'd NEVER guess he's nearly 90!
So sorry I didn't respond earlier -- very hectic before we left and didn't get a chance to check in. We had a wonderful trip, and V&A's was unbelievably fabulous, as usual. Yes, I did dine there on my birthday once before (six years ago). We've only ever eaten in the main dining room. Can't really justify the price of the other options, and though we love eating, we don't need more details than our servers give us as is. Seven courses is enough, we think (and seven wine pairings more than enough!).
As for your ADR woes, pretty much all of Disney's systems were down on the 24th. The hotel staff (at Bay Lake) said they couldn't check people in, people couldn't get access to their dining credits, it was a mess (luckily we had arrived on the 21st, so it didn't really affect us, except at one point we couldn't pay for something with our magic bands).
So glad you're getting back to V&A in November. Enjoy!

Gee, can't imagine why reading boards wasn't a top priority.

Delighted to hear that both your trip and V&A were yet again glorious.
Silly me! I suppose your mentioning celebrating your mutual birthday led me to remember it as having been in QVR.

Clearly, you are not the gluttons we are, although admittedly oinking out as we do there on ten courses is much easier since we don't get any wine. Even if health issues didn't prevent it, I know I'd not make it through all the pairings for the 7-course much less TEN.

We shall, I'm sure. Believe me, when Drew saw that the ADR system was up that Tuesday night, he scrambled to book QVR before someone else got it or, as soon occurred, the system went down again. We were SO grateful we were familiar with booking ADR's and could speedily snag the ones we knew were hot ones.

Update: ADR Change Bug Strikes (in a very minor way)
After much consideration, we decided to switch Black Friday's Coral Reef lunch for Liberty Tree Tavern. Thing is, I'm thinking we changed the "food witch" of Coral Reef for the "crowd devil" of the MK.
Drew is only marginally a seafood fancier (shrimp or lobster and those rarely) and thus had limited options at CR. I luuuuvvv seafood, the more exotic the better, but even I found little on the menu that appealed other than the same things I had previously. Plus, there's the possibility of a ridiculously long wait for a table. Took nearly an hour last year despite the place being less than 1/4 full, something I've since seen others complain about.
We've talked about eating at LTT every trip but never have. It seemed like a good change as much as I love turkey. Drew thought the pot roast appealing, so eating comfort food instead of our usually exotic fare struck us as a better option.
And then, after we booked a great time (11:00 a.m.), it occurred to me that the MK could easily close by 10:00 as it did on Christmas Day last year. The crowd on Main Street was so ridiculous at about 9:30 that we were very happy indeed to get on the monorail headed to our EP ADR.
I'm wondering if we wouldn't do better to try for another breakfast and eat lounge munchies at lunchtime so as not to be too full for V&A that evening. Popping over to WS for a QS lunch somewhere might work even better.
Another first world Disney problem, huh?

Were you planning on being in MK prior to your 11 am LTT ADR? If so then I think you will be fine. I would go for early on morning, do/see what I could prior to the ADR, enjoy some well needed non exotic comfort food then depending on crowds head out of the park or do a few more attractions. No matter what you decide to do, you & Drew will have a great time.

Did you speak with Drew this morning? That's pretty much what he said along with reminding me not to anticipate trouble when there may not be any.
Yes, we've talked about using our MVMCP strategy--get the hey away from Main Street as early as possible and stay there until time to head to LTT. It's not as if we'd booked BOG which could be dicey to get to by that time.
I'm resolving to quit worrying. We've enough experience dodging the more crowded areas that I'm sure you and Drew are both right. We'll manage fine.

LTT sounds good and had lunch there on my last WDW trip in 2014 and enjoyed it there as well as the great theming of the place.

Nope...didn't talk with Drew and to be honest I haven't seen him posting much lately. Glad you are just going to just let things happen and get through it...I think after the crowds you have dealt with in the past you will be just fine. Enjoy
Update: Recent ADR tweaks (Yup, as predicted, the ADR change virus got us again)
SUNDAY, November 20
Dinner--Flying Fish (orig. Trattoria al Forno.)
We didn't have a great experience at TaF last year so quickly looked over the new FF menu upon hearing that FF reopened last week and decided it looked far more enticing. Meets our arrival day criteria of non-park, not at DSpgs and convenient to YC, as well as a new-to-us. Kudos to the IPO for snagging this when MDE wouldn't cooperate at all!
MONDAY, November 21
Breakfast--Crystal Palace
Lunch--Spice Road Table (orig. MM Asia.)
Drew had been meh about this one but given a lack of any more appealing after we switched MM Asia to dinner, looked over the menu and decided SRT sounded better than he'd previously thought. Also new to us.
Dinner--Morimoto Asia Third new for us.
TUESDAY, November 22
Breakfast--Cinderella's Royal Table
Lunch--Les Chefs de France
Dinner--Citricos
WEDNESDAY, November 23
Breakfast--YC CL lounge
Lunch--Tutto Italia
Dinner--1900 Park Fare
THANKSGIVING DAY, November 24
Breakfast--YC CL lounge
Lunch--Via Napoli
Dinner--Monsieur Paul I'm unusually excited about a return to MP. It'll be the most non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner I've ever had for certain!
FRIDAY, November 25
Breakfast--YC CL lounge
Lunch--Liberty Tree Tavern (orig. Coral Reef.)
Another look at the menu indicated we'd both order same as last year at CR, me because nothing else appealed much, Drew because he's not a seafood fan and had extremely limited options. Decided that was no fun especially when his powerchair seats us on the tier furthest from the aquarium. Plus, we've considered LTT several times and never before been there so another new-to-us.
Dinner--Queen Victoria's Room @ V&A
SATURDAY, November 26
Breakfast--Captain's Grille
