Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Thanks for the info on the popcorn bucket! Maybe I can get one in WDW. I have that Zero in his doghouse too !
I love my Zero bucket! The Cinderella one is very cute but the carriage/container portion is very small. On the 24 hour day, I saw some people holding it with popcorn spilling out of the top of it. Now, it looks like they're just filling the regular paper box and inserting it into the carriage.

I absolutely loved watching the projections! It was all coordinated brilliantly with the music. I was more interested in seeing the Matterhorn projections than the castle projections (of course my view of the Matterhorn became much better than my view of the castle, lol!).

I all of us "Disney" regulars expect the last minute pushing and shoving. It really is annoying, but I don't see there's much we can do about it other than confronting the offender (which I really don't like to do), or having assigned spaces (which will never happen!). It's sadly the rare exception when people ask if an open space is available before they step in...and usually bring 3 or 4 of their friends!

I just love that they're doing the Matterhorn and Main Street projections because it makes viewing from any location from the train station to the hub potentially really good. Maybe once people realize that for this show being closer to the castle isn't necessarily the best spot they won't be so pushy? Wishful thinking. At any rate, I think you won't get the extremes of bad crowd behavior if you're further down Main Street. Looks like it's amazing having the fireworks in front of you and the projections on both sides. I didn't know the Matterhorn erupts!
Haha, poor me having to go back to Disneyland over and over to practice my camera skills! I wasn't expecting anything before the parade and fireworks started. I guess I went through a phase with Disney a few years back when I wasn't too impressed with their offerings. Thank goodness they've proven me wrong in recent years, because I love the daytime Soundsational Parade along with Paint the Night and Disneyland Forever. Good job, Disney!

I had forgotten I had read about the Matterhorn erupting, so when it happened I ooh'd and aah'd along with everyone else! It was magical for sure! I think it might have been the beginning of the Lion King section, but I'm not positive about that. Guess I'll have to go back and make sure!

After the Kiss Goodnight, it was time for us to start heading over to Space Mountain for our 10:10pm FP. We were a bit early, so we made a pit stop first. Vicky had heard there was a Tomorrowland movie exhibit, so we went there next (it's the back part of where Starcade is/was, by the exit to SM).

The exhibit had props, costumes, and artwork from the movie. There was also a display window which I found very interesting. It was a large box that was discovered at Walt Disney Studios. I'll let the description and pictures tell the story:

It was really fascinating to see.

After enjoying the exhibit, it was time to head to Space Mountain. It was as fun as ever...and yes, I'm one of those who prefer Disneyland's over Magic Kingdom's!

After the ride, it was about 10:30pm, and we were close to hitting our limit. All through the day, I kept laughing that Vicky with her partially torn Achilles was outpacing me! She's a dynamo!

We started to slowly walk out of Tomorrowland. At the hub, we decided to split up. Vicky and Esty wanted to head over to the Jolly Holiday Cafe to see if they had the 60th Anniversary cupcake. I decided to head out.

I ducked into the Main Street shops starting at the Camera Center and walking through the shops. I exited at Disney Clothiers, which is halfway down Main Street. I continued on the sidewalk where people were lined up to watch the 11pm parade. Then I heard the park announcer tell everyone in 10 minutes the parade would start. Should I stay?

Just outside the music store, I saw that there was some space open behind the rope, more than enough for a person to stand! I tapped the shoulder of the lady standing there and asked if she was saving that spot. She said no, so I ducked under the rope and grabbed it! I had mentioned before that the space reserved for parade viewing was a bit less than before, and this was the case here. There was room for only 2, maybe 3 rows of viewers. What this means is there was the first row sitting on the curb, the second row standing behind them, and then me! There was a small tree about 2 feet to my left that partially blocked my view, but hey, it was a great spot once the parade came past that tree! I debated whether I should try to text Vicky to see if they wanted to watch the parade again, but there wasn't much room there, and their views would've been obstructed, so I left them alone to hopefully enjoy their cupcake!

It was a quick few minutes before I noticed the show lights going up on the Main Street roof. Then, the music started! I was really excited to get this second viewing of the parade! I could see the lights of the first float start to come out by the Opera House and start to go past the train station. But, my happiness was soon dashed. Why? THREE guys ducked in under the rope next to me and crowded around behind the base of the tree (in a space that might have fit two people if one were straddling the tree trunk), laughing uproariously that they had found a spot at the last second. Ok, no harm no foul, they weren't pushing into my space. One guy was holding a cup of coffee, and he kept talking loudly and laughing and breathing in my direction so that I could spell every scent of coffee on his breath. Ewww! Of course, if I wanted to watch the parade, I had to turn in his direction! What to do?! Lol!

Anyhow, the parade started to make it to our location, and I was so excited. I had my camera ready to go, and I had mentally made a note to myself that I wouldn't hold my camera out to far in front of me so that I wouldn't block the view of the nice lady standing to my right. Then what happens? Mr. Last-Minute-Guy uses his left hand to grab a hold of the tree trunk and then swings himself out with his phone in his hand outstretched over the head of the person sitting in front of the tree and proceeds to take video of most of the parade, essentially blocking my view as the parade came past us. Sigh.... I ended up moving a bit to my right so that I was standing sort of behind the lady to my right so that my camera wouldn't be in her way. Even then, there were times I had to wait for Mr. Rude to put his phone down momentarily so that I could get a decent view. Ugh. I really wish I weren't so empathetic sometimes! Thanks for letting me whine some more. I know we've all experienced this, but it was just so extremely annoying that night! I'll stop now and let you see my pictures, lol!

Mr. Last-Minute-Guy is in the bottom left of this next picture, getting his camera ready to block me, lol!

This truck was really amazing. There were about 50-60 columns of light bulbs by about 15 columns wide. It was a beautiful dance of lights they created as the truck went by.

I didn't catch this in the first parade, but here you can see that there are images depicted on the screen behind Belle! Cool!

And that was the second parade. It's been a while since I've stayed this late at Disneyland! To be honest, I had my second wind and probably could've stayed even longer, lol!

I'll be back a little later to wrap it up with some pictures of the 60th Anniversary merchandise.

Oh wow, amazing photos - it just looks stunning!

I don't suppose there's any way to see it through perhaps a behind the scenes tour? I guess that's wishful thinking, but I'm just thinking if that's an option, that would be one we'd take!

Very cool parade. I love how they're using all the area of the floats to maximum effect. The screens are incredible. That jerk swinging right into your view!

At the hub, there were rows and rows of seats that were roped off. A CM said they were reserved for guests of the Walt Disney Company. I don't know if there's another way to get reserved seating for this.

Did you notice him in several of my pictures? Lol! I tried to stay sort of behind the lady to my right so that whenever I held up my camera it wouldn't be in her line of sight. If I had blocked her view, then that would've been the pot calling the kettle black! Keep in mind that I was now standing well behind him to the right, and most of my shots I had to hold the camera up above my head to try to keep him out of the picture. Thank goodness no one was standing behind me, or else I wouldn't have been able to take so many shots!

I can't wait to go back and see it again, but with the second viewing I feel like I was able to enjoy pretty much all of the parade.

I'm pretty sure there were lots of times when he even blocked the view of the lady who was standing in front of me! It's one thing to reach out and take an occasional shot, but when you do it constantly and block someone else's view, that's just not right. If you want to take so much video of the parade, then get there early and sit down on the curb so you don't block anyone else's view! I don't get worked up over much, but this just drives me nuts!

I finally let the park around 11:30pm. It had been a really fun day! My brother and family are in town next week, so I'm hoping we'll get another chance to watch the parade and fireworks!

To wrap this TR up, here are some 60th Anniversary merchandise pictures I took. There's lots of fun stuff. There was a tank top that I neglected to take a picture of...I'll have to take a picture the next time I'm there. It looked like a really cute top that I would love to wear over the summer (heck, with the crazy weather we've been having, I can wear it year round except the two weeks of winter we get!). The tank top has metallic thread woven into it, but it's not very glaring...it's a beautiful grey/silver color. There's a sparkly celebration design on the front with lots of shimmery beads and shiny crystal-like adornments. I saw a lady walk up to the display, look at the price tag, and immediately walk away. I was thinking I might actually buy this because it looks really fun to wear! I was thinking maybe $30-40. Oh boy, the price! I asked Esty how much she thought it was. She said $35? I laughed uproariously, and she and Vicky started laughing. Then she guessed $45? I laughed uproariously again! It was $75. I really like that tank top, but gosh that's a lot of money for a tank top, even as pretty as it is! I'm really really really going to have to think about it. There is some really great merchandise they're offering, but I don't know if I want to spend that much money on a fancy tank top when there's still so much more I'd love to get!

Thanks for following along! I'll do another quick TR after I see the fireworks from a different location. Hopefully it will give you all a perspective of where you might want to stand when you come out to California to visit me...and Disneyland, too!

It's always so exciting to see something NEW in merchandise! $75 for a DL tank top? Hmmmmmm..... take a picture. This I have to see! Is all the limited merchandise gone already? I'm not much for sparkles, so some of this merchandise is a bit too blinged-out for me!

I really like that tank top! I saw it displayed on a wall and thought I was going to buy it. I walked through the shop to see if I could find it, but when I did the price really made me think again. I would be really afraid that the first time I washed it half the sparkly things would fall off. I'm not into sparkles either, but I really like the look of this tank top! I can't believe I didn't take a picture. I'll be sure to do so the next time I'm there.

There are lots of great goodies there. I try not to be a buyer, too, but they all look so cute!

$75 for a tank top?! Although you would get an AP discount, right?!

Lol, Colleen, I was thinking that! Had the price been $50-60 before my discount, I probably would've bought it! $75 plus the discount is still a lot of money for a tank top!
