Celebrating the holidays and hogmanay COMPLETED 2/25 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

the calf. Dinner looked so delicious, except I was so disappointed when I realized your scallops were burnt. I so loved the Seared Sea Scallops at the Scotland booth for F&WF this past October that I'm sure I'd have ordered that, too.
I know. When they arrived, I thought they might be burnt, but as soon as I tasted them, I knew they were...

Such a pretty snow! I love when it sticks to the trees like that.

By the way guys, I still have no name for my new cow - and as was pointed out to me on Facebook, she's a girl, so any ideas gratefully received, as I feel bad still calling her "moo cow"....

If you want a Disney name, there's Clarabelle, Minnie's friend. Also, from Fox and the Hound, Abigail. "Home on the Range" cows: Mrs Calloway (voice is Judi Dench) and Grace (Jennifer Tilly). Since she's a British cow, the Judi Dench connection would be nice, but she's too young to be a "Mrs"!

D'oh! I hadn't even thought of Clarabelle... now there's a thought. I love the Judi Dench idea, but yes, too young to be married just yet!
That cow is quite adorable for certain! Perhaps, you could call her Elsie. Anyone on the east coast may remember the name of the cow from Borden's milk cow from years ago!
The meal looked great, but sorry to hear about your scallops. That bit of snow looks so beautiful, but not good on the driving!
Too bad about the communication problem with your mom regarding lunch plans!

Your cow is adorable!!! However, for some reason I was thinking of your other favorite, Eeyore.
The snow pictures are great. However, think of the trees with another three or four inches and you've got my home town right now. Over the last several days we have had close to six inches of snow. I love it, except for having to drive in it. At least we have snow removal equipment and the roads were dry for my drive home from work.

Oh boy! You see that's the difference from you guys to us - we don't have the snow removal equipment and we're just not used to getting that amount of snow, so when it arrives here, we struggle with it.
Saturday 27 December – part one: did you just call me a “bog brush”?
We both had a bit of a rough night’s sleep, something to do with a car alarm going off in the middle of the night. Now I need to say here that my parents have houses around them, but not that close, so I immediately thought it was one of our cars, and Mark got up, but said the indicators on our car weren’t flashing, and they usually do. In fact, none were, so maybe it was next door’s after all. It certainly sounded closer than that. Of course, after that, we both struggled to get back to sleep.
We also got a shock when I eventually got up. I surfaced, thinking to myself in a very Eeyore kind of way “I bet it’s only about 6:00am” and got a very rude awakening (literally!) when I saw that the alarm clock said 7:40am. Oh boy, considering we went to bed at 9:30pm, I guess we really needed the sleep then…
We headed down and had breakfast, and then I went outside to take some photos of the sunrise, which was beautiful.
In case you’re wondering, this is the Jodrell Bank radio telescope that you can see in this shot
A plane flies overhead with no zoom….
… and on fifty times zoom
We headed out just after 9:00am, and as you can see, it was still pretty cold out…
This was just some of the ice on our car!
The drive over to Chester Zoo was a bit surreal, as in some places, there was no snow at all, but in others, it was still all over the ground and looked stunning. We also came over a hill, expecting to see snow on the ground all ahead of us, but everything was green, which was a big surprise.
We got to the zoo just before 10:00am, which was opening time, and we certainly weren’t the only mad fools to have the idea to come here. There were probably another 20 or so cars in the car park, although we were still able to park close by.
As we’d bought my parents an animal adoption, they had tickets for them both as senior and one adult ticket (it’s seriously worth getting the adoption packages here, as they come with a lot! ) and all we had to pay for was one adult, which was £18 ($30), and as I’m sure you’ll agree as we go through, this was superb value for money.
Before we went much further, we had a restroom stop, and I was so glad I had the camera with me to capture the scene inside. Talk about great theming!
We made our way in, and immediately I must admit I began to wonder how good today would be, as the monkeys were nowhere to be seen. I guess they were pretty sensible, given the snow on the ground, but how much would we actually see?
This was the first guy we found…
… and this is the expression on his face, after he heard Mark calling him a “bog brush” (toilet brush, just in case you guys don’t have the same slang we do! ). As you can see, he was not impressed, and trust me, he was staring straight at Mark when I took this photo!
We next had a look in the aviary, and despite the cold conditions, there were some brave souls out.
As we go round, you will notice various shots of the berries, and shrubs, as I just love seeing them with rain or ice on them.

A car alarm in the middle of the night is not a fun thing, and not one you expect in the countryside. A cold morning at the zoo! That crowned crane was definitely giving Mark the stink eye! This is the first I've heard the term "bog brush"!
Just getting caught up again. Glad you had a great Christmas (other than the screaming child at lunch)! Great time at your parents'! Love the cow! Dinner looked delish as well! Sorry about the scallops! The snow is so pretty, and a great start to your day at the zoo!
Can't wait to see hear what name you decide on for your new girl. Wondering where she's taken up residence now that you're home? Living room or bedroom?

She's in the dining room right now and I have a name for her Clarabelle - I just love the name, so I was able to come home and greet her by name tonight, so Laurie for the suggestion!
