As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

There was something lurking on the floor at the foot of our bed eager to snap at toesies. A "toweliegator"!!! [Yes, yes--photo later, later,...well, you get where this one's headed. ] Such fun and a cute ending to a magical day of touring a wee bit of WS and lots of HS.
As predicted, Drew paid me back on TSMM. I was leading until we got to the ring toss where my accuracy went waaaaaaaay south, like maybe Antarctica. All in good fun, we're even!
Had to return as it must've been "Evil Kid Sid" running amok inside TSMM when we arrived for our FP to a "Come back later." Technical difficulties was the unimaginative explanation, but I know better. :::::giggling:::::

Sorry about the service at Artist Point. We ate there back in May and we were so pleased with our service. Such a shame! Tutto Italia is still on our list for a future trip.
Wilderness Lodge is attractive in a rustic, outdoorsy way, but sorry to say, it's not our Disney dream home.
Our room is comfortable enough with a very cozy king bed. Not a lot of floorspace, which we knew. I think it feels slightly cramped, but Drew says I'm far too picky, it's not. I do, however, love the smoothness of the bed linens and find the pillows 'zactly right.
I miss the sitting area of our previous GF club level rooms, though. Each had a loveseat with coffee table and an upholstered chair with ottoman that could make a lounge when pushed against the chair. Great places to curl up and sort pins or read while Drew napped or watched tv.
Most annoying is the waist-high solid wall on the balcony with two chairs facing into the room. Of course, that's to be expected when you chop post-construction holes in the roof to put in bizarre "balconies" more resembling battleship gunports. The point of that would be what? You can either sit enjoying the view of your dining table and chairs against the far wall, maybe admiring your reflection in the mirror above the table--but no, you'd have to stand to see that, too. We do have a lovely view of the bus stop if you look up beyond the lengthy downward expanse of roof slant. Just our luck... And the woods surrounding WL are admittedly gorgeous as well as snug.
Another incomprehensible annoyance is that the turndown service arrives typically before 6:30 in the evening. Last night, she showed up at 4:50!!! HUH?!? When people are most likely dressing for dinner? But then, admittedly that's just us as we were honestly overdressed at Artist Point in our preferred business casual. We simply enjoy dressing up a bit for dinner as a change of pace from touring grubs. Just hoity-toity that way...
The bathroom in our honeymoon suite is just plain decadent and far more distinctive than ones at the GF. (Pics later for sure) We have yet to figure out how one turns on the enormous Jacuzzi tub. A hidden panel in the brown marble tub surround slides to reveal the controls if you press the right place while standing on your head whistling the Davy Crockett song??? Have no clue, and that tub and I have a soak-date one of these afternoons.
(Would NEVER have figured it out! Asked the CL concierge who agreed it's pretty much impossible to figure out.
I had bent over as if taking a nosedive into the tub to discover a black disk containing what looked like computer chips stuck on the side about 6"-8" below the top edge but hadn't a clue what its purpose might be.
You fill the tub above the top jets and then lay your hand over the disk. The jets start in 15-20 seconds, the concierge explained. Sure would be nice if there were instructions posted or laid somewhere.)
The fabled Best of all CL Lounges is undeserving of that honorific, we feel. It's okay but not that wonderful. We've admittedly been very much spoiled by the GF's greater variety of foodstuffs. Also, the only trays are about the size of a sheet of copy paper. Not very helpful when Drew usually needs my help to carry food due to a bad wrist which is why we hadn't previously done buffets much.
Chairs and tables are conveniently near our room which opens directly onto the gallery about fifty feet from the food service area. Chairs are solidly built and quite serviceable, comfy, too. Not much available space as they all line the gallery around the upper lobby. As I said, we're just spoiled by the GF lounge which has a spacious dining area as well as a much wider gallery. There's only just room for Drew's scooter to get past here.
The boat to the MK and CR has become our standby. So pleasant and relaxing despite our having had to wait a few times for the next larger boat that can take the scooter. The boat ride we do love about WL.
The CM's at WL are terrifically friendly, folksy and helpful. They represent a huge plus for WL in our estimation as do the sturdy rockers in front of the big fireplace, "fake" fire (gaslog) though it is. I had a blissed out hour or so with a Christmas krispie treat and refillable mugful of tea in front of the fire when it was so nasty cold Monday afternoon and plan another few such before we leave.
But on the whole, we'll leave the rustic delights of WL to those preferring such in future. Home for us is the snooty-elegant GF.

Dang it all! The one character meal where I wanted autographs was at 1900 PF dinner, and I didn't even think to check to be sure my autograph book was in my totebag. Naturally, it wasn't.
The Wickeds were a complete hoot. Drew told the red-haired stepsister that she resembled Jessica Rabbit, a compliment since he thinks Jessica Rabbit pretty hot. She immediately scrunched up her face to appear rabbity with upheld front rabbit paws, screeching to Stepsister Drusilla that Drew thinks she looks like a rabbit and DOES NOT. Too funny!
Drusilla and Stepmom were loads of fun. Of course, I played along like a madwoman, empathizing with them about how undeserving Cinderella was of the Prince when the Wickeds were so much more elegant, lovely and suitable.
WStepmom enthused about liking me immensely when she said with curled lip of Drew that he must be my dreary "Prince Charming."
"Oh my, no!" I speedily replied when she asked if that's why he was with me. I stuck out my hand with its diamond wedding band and replied with a smirk, "He buys me JEWELRY. That's why."
"Well, I DO like how you think," she said.
A laugh riot meeting the Wickeds! Well worth dealing with just okay food.

Details and pics to follow. Suffice it to say, great coffee, excellent food, and one of the best servers we've ever had at Disney. Gave him our direct compliments and assured him Disney will hear about our delight with how very well he served us.
We had some qualms about CG due to mixed reviews tending to the downside. Nuh-UUUHHH for us. Simply delightful.

I'm surprised but pleased that Captain's Grille got such a rave from you! Maybe they've changed the menu and style, because my last time there it was just a plain old hotel restaurant, nothing special. I love the WL lobby. On my first stay there I came downstairs early to find Dale sitting in the rocker by the fireplace reading the newspaper! So glad you're having such a fun trip. The interactions at the character buffet sound hilarious!

Were wandering about the vicinity of WS's Chinese pavilion when we got the call from V&A's inquiring about food sensitivities. Ahhhhhh, can hardly wait for our Chef's Table grand finale. Lotsa pictures for everybody to drool over.
You'd think with my mostly German ancestry I'd know more about the food. Had some tasty things at Biergarten just now. A very nice kraut with a light-colored smallish sausage. Great flavor. Chicken, maybe? No idea. Drew really enjoyed the Black Forest cake in a shot glass. I played it safe with a mixed berry compote. Love German desserts, but I feel like I've eaten a bowling ball when I eat strudel anyway. Drew said the apple strudel he had was too heavy for his tastes.
Listening to the oompah band while we wait for the DxDDP tally.
Pretty good food overall although we've had better at a little place called Imbiss Grill in Kansas. No longer exists but gave us some lovely meals. Their sauerbraten and red cabbage was majorly yummy!

Glad you enjoyed Captain's Grille. Unfortunately, our oldest daughter will never allow us to go back, because the server thought she was a boy. Too bad, because I memories of good fries with a really delicious mayonaisse!
