Celebrating as One Big Happy Family: 5/10/14 - 5/18/14 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Yippy single digits. Hope it so cute. My SIL is a dance judge and choreographer; we go to a few of her performances a year. When she has a class of the little ones it is so cute.
Great photos! Hope looks adorable in her dance outfit.

Shoot! I make a spreadsheet for every trip - I can't live/plan without it! At least now I have your input on the FP+ before I have to worry about it myself.
You're going to have such a great time!
I love Hope in her dance outfit and seeing her grow before our eyes. I can't believe my baby is going to be a 1st grader in a few months?! He seems to grow a few inches every day too!
I guess you'll always be one grade ahead of me, but at least you have another little one to help ease the heartache just a bit.

I hope the Mine Train has a soft opening while you are there. I told the girls the other day that if we were still going in May as originally planned we would probably have missed it. Hope you get lucky!!!
I hope we don't miss it, but if it happens it still won't ruin the trip, I'll just be disappointed. First it was the FOTLK that closed down and now the Mine Train...what's next?

Plus, I bought that swimsuit with my Disney Visa discount.

And Miss Hope looks adorable in her dance costume!!! Glad that she performed even though she had a bit of stage fright! They are so darn cute at that age! My daughter dances, and it is crazy rehearsal schedule right now, and I still love watching all the younger ones, some of them totally ham it up, and others just stand there like a deer in headlights!
There were a few little ones that just stood there. But once the music started playing, I think she forgot she was standing in front of so many people and just did what she was suppposed to do.

All we did was the mulch, you outdid me by actually planting flowers in the flower beds.

Thanks. The little ones are definitely cute to watch, but it was a real treat watching the older dancers who actually know what they're doing.

I forgot to add some big news in my last update...I bought a new camera!
I finally upgraded, and although it wasn't the camera I really wanted to upgrade too, it is a HUGE improvement from what I've been using. It's the Nikon D7100, and I bought a refurbished camera body in order to save myself a little money. It was shipped to me last week, and I haven't really had the time to spend on it like I would really like too. Which means, I'm not 100% if it's coming with me to Disney.
The last thing I want to do on vacation is get frustrated with another camera. Been there done that. And even though I know how to use a DSLR, the button placement is different and the dynamics of this camera is in a completely different league than what I'm used too.
I actually brought it to work with me, so I can focus on it during my lunch break, but forgetful me forgot to take the memory card out of my old Nikon and insert it into my new one. Guess I'll have to wait a little bit longer to figure this monster out.
I do have one question for all of you. Since Photobucket is going to start charging for more storage space, are there any photo sharing sites that you prefer now, besides Shutterfly (Kelly )? Just wondering what I'm going to do when it does come time to upload all of these vacation photos. Is flickr compatible on here?
congrats on the new camera, single digits and getting the birthday all squared away. OK don't hate me but I have to agree with your mom. perhaps because I have the absolute worst birthday of the entire year - christmas day! I mean come on for a child is that just the worst? I never had anything special ON my birthday - EVER. I was lucky to get Happy Birthday so I'm very used to celebrting my birthday early or late but never on my birthday. Besides that Evan shares a birthday with hsi cousin and they have been having joint parties since they were babies. I don't think kids even know all that much about what day it is anyway. It just us parents that go crazy. Kids are just so much more adaptable I guess.
Congrats on the new camera! Have fun using it! I know some folks here have used flickr as I see it at the bottom of their pictures. I've been wondering the same thing as I already pay some additional for storage on Photobucket, but I've very close to using all that up, too.
congrats on the new camera!!! That's the same one I currently have and I it!!!
Thanks! Was it hard to learn?

All is good, and I understand about your birthday day. My best friend's birthday is on Christmas Eve, and she's always had issues with Christmas gifts taking the place of birthday gifts. However, if that were my child, I would do something extra special just for her birthday. Just because you never had it, doesn't mean that no one should. You know? Also, Evan shares his birthday with his cousin, but Hope was born first, on a compeletely different day, in a competely different month.
Trust me, I'm happy not to be worrying about throwing her a birthday party, but because Trinity already had a little birthday party, it's only fair that Hope have one too, that's not shared with someone else. That's all I'm saying.

Everybody's charging for everything lately. Goes with my FB status that you saw earlier. I just don't want to do it anymore.

I've done that. And I'm still almost too my limit. I had to delete a few old albums.

Congrats on the new camera!! I like Snapfish and as far as I know, I don't think they have a limit of storage. I usually store all my pictures on Flickr, but I pay for the extra storage space.
Holly, my DH's birthday is on Christmas Day, too. But he thinks it is a great day for a birthday. One of his close friends has the same birthday, only a year later.
