Yes We're Taking the Baby & No, We're Not Crazy! PTR - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I figured you knew. It just popped in my mind and you never know what you don't think about until too late, lol! You are right. He probably would get one in the middle of the trip.
I also agree about favorites at MK. It is hard to choose!
We've just gone too long on this streak without infections, I'm sure one is just waiting. In fact, the reason he is getting them is because the fluid isn't draining in his ears. They've been checking every 6 weeks and finally agreed it's time for round 3.

Thank you for that, I like it when people help remind me we aren't crazy for doing this. I'm looking forward to lots of memories!

It's nice, but I'm a tad nervous. I'll explain why in my update in a minute.

I'm still jumping for joy that you passed your test Glad you went out to dinner to celebrate!
Your plans for MK look great. I can't wait to hear more!
It's funny how different ENT's have different rules for tubes. When Nolan had his put in, we were told we could take him back to daycare THAT day (we didn't). He was also allowed to swim etc, right away as long as he kept plugs in. When we had them removed, it was a different story. He was 4 and we weren't allowed to get his head wet until the holes healed...it took 3 1/2 weeks for his left hole to heal enough
I remember Kelly posting them on Facebook when she made them. I have a sewing/embroidery machine that I love, but so far I just know how to do the embroidery portion of it. I do want to learn how to sew at some point. I'm still impressed I learned how to knit
Thanks for being in my corner for that test. You and Amy were some of the first people I texted!
We've never had to get his tubes removed before. They keep coming out in their own.

Thank you again I may be texting you in a bit. I might actually have some time in a few minutes to work on the touring plans.

Thank you! I was surprised something opened up, just happened to look at the right time.
I feel like getting through the plans are taking forever, and I have so much more fun stuff I want to talk about. Well fun to me anyway, since we are leaving in less than 3 weeks
I’m going to summarize the rest of the week because other than FP+ and ADRs, we’re pretty open to everything else we do in between. I don’t have anything else set in stone at this point.
Wednesday we have FP+ for Epcot scheduled for Test Track (again), Journey into Imagination with Figment, and The Seas with Nemo and Friends (again). I didn’t book a FP+ for Soarin’ because Sean really loved Test Track so much more last year. I want to guarantee he’ll be able to ride it more than once during the trip without a really long wait time. If we are able to get on Soarin’ that is just going to be an extra bonus. We’ll also leave it up to him and change one of the Test Track FP+ once we are there if he decides he wants to ride the other instead. This evening we have a dinner ADR at Chefs de France. More than likely the whole day will probably be spent in Epcot. I do know that we have to make it over to Universe of Energy so Sean can see the dinosaurs again. Let’s just hope he stays awake this time around.
Thursday morning we are headed over to Hollywood Studios for the special breakfast event at SciFi! When Disney announced the special SWW meals, I looked and didn’t see anything available. I decided not to sweat it because we’ve just recently over the past few months started getting Sean into the Star Wars movies. I didn’t think he would care much (especially if he didn’t know about it). Then one day I happened to look and not only was the breakfast with Darth Vader open, but so was dinner with Jedi Mickey. The price of these meals is not cheap : and on the DDP it’s 2 credits for each meal. I quickly booked both of them, just so I had time to ask Chris and Sean which one they’d prefer doing. Chris didn’t have a preference, but figured Sean would pick Jedi Mickey. We were both surprised when he picked breakfast with Darth Vader (although I was secretly happy). I immediately cancelled the Jedi Mickey dinner so another family could enjoy the excitement of booking one too. I actually got an email earlier this week from Disney confirming our breakfast ADR. This isn’t the normal reminder email you get the day before the meal. This one came from one of the park managers and looked a little different, it was kind of neat to get.
Since we are having breakfast in the park, we have FP+ for Toy Story, Star Tours, and The Great Movie Ride. I’m thinking about changing the Star Tours one, but waiting until after Sean rides it during the beginning of the trip, then I’ll leave it up to him. Those kinds of rides usually make me a bit nauseous and I’d rather use it on something we can all do together with Owen. Our last FP+ is at 12:20, so I’m hoping we can leave there and go over to Animal Kingdom., especially if we end up leaving that park early on Sunday. We have a dinner ADR this evening for Chef Mickey’s, so even though Sean didn’t pick Jedi Mickey, he’ll still get to have dinner with him.
Friday we are spending the morning back at MK. This is the last park day of the trip since we’ll be leaving after breakfast to head home on Saturday. I like ending the trip with Magic Kingdom, at least at some point during the day. We have FP+ for Buzz Lightyear, Dumbo, and Haunted Mansion. I keep eagerly looking to see if the Mine Train will have FP+ for that week, but so far nothing is showing up. I looked again this morning, just in case it suddenly pops in there. Does anyone know when it’s going to be officially open? Speaking of FP+ availability, if I’m willing to meet Anna and Elsa alone, I can get a pass for that. However, if I add on a second person, the availability is gone. Sean loves, loves, loves this movie. Honestly it would probably be the highlight of his trip if he could meet them. It’s disappointing that I can’t get at least 2 FP for them. Thank goodness they are in the parade, so that will be enough to keep him happy.
We actually have 2 dinner ADRs for Epcot for this evening. One at Rose & Crown and the other at Tutto Italia. Oops! I hadn’t realized that I booked 2 by mistake so we’re trying to decide which one we want to keep. Chris threw a little wrench in there and asked if we had to eat in Epcot. Of course not, but where would he like to eat? He doesn’t know. I feel like I kind of owe him for canceling Coral Reef again so once he picks a spot, hopefully I can score an ADR. I told him he has until the end of this weekend to pick, just because I don’t want to forget again and be charged the no show fees on our card.
Saturday morning we’re going to get up and finish packing, then head to Olivia’s for breakfast before hitting the road. I don’t usually like leaving early, but since we’re driving I’d rather get that trek over with as soon as possible.
Cam had mentioned that it was nice that my parents are going to house sit and she is right, but I'm a bit nervous. My mom came to stay for a couple weeks after I had Owen and Chris had gone back to work. I was getting a bit stir crazy and wanted to get out of the house for a bit. My mom volunteered to watch Owen while I went to the store. For some reason, my mom gets paranoid and must lock the doors once she is inside. She does this at her home too, and neither one of us live in "bad" or unsafe areas. Anyway, since our home has an alarm system, she also took it a step further and hit the button to set the alarm. Can you guess what happened next?
After awhile, she forgot that she had set the alarm and decided to go outside and have a cigarette. Naturally, the alarm went off and she didn't know how to turn it off. I was at the grocery store and the alarm company was calling my cell phone. I started panicking thinking something happened to the house and Owen. Our neighbor across the street, who is a police officer, was outside working in the yard and heard the alarm, so he came running over. Luckily, he was able to call his dispatch and told them to cancel sending anyone out (which we would have been charged for since it was a non-emergency 911 call). I tried to explain to my mom over the phone how to turn the alarm off, but she was so upset at this point, there was no talking to her, so my neighbor had to do it. Good thing for us, he is a really nice guy and has become a pretty good friend of ours. Otherwise I think I'd still be hiding my head in embarrassment whenever we see each other at the mailbox
Since then, we've shown my mom and step father several times how to operate the alarm. I think I better provide some written directions too. Chris thinks it's a bad idea to let them stay here after all that, but hopefully it won't happen again. Besides, my step father will be with her this time and he is a bit more tech savvy.
Ok so aside of our possible impending drama I've been busy shopping and getting some things checked off (and added) to our list!
I purchased the Memory Maker (Stefani thank you again for explaining that)!
I've also gotten Owen 2 new pairs of shoes. Normally I'm not much on infant shoes and figure he could be barefoot. However, I figure if I'm taking him into restaurants, I want him to have something on his feet. I'm sure it probably doesn't matter since he is a baby, but it's a hang up of mine. Chris and Sean both have a pair of black Converse that they are taking on the trip and I found out that Converse sells them in baby shoes too! Now all 3 of my guys have matching shoes, it's so cute. I also got Owen an adorable little pair of sandals, I hope he keeps those on.
I also bought myself a new pair of flip flops. They are from Skechers GoWalk collection. This style came in a choice of white or black. I chose white since it's more Spring/Summer, and they ended up being really white. I'm not sure if the picture does them justice! It doesn't matter though because they are ultra comfy. In fact, I loved them so much that I also ordered a pair of regular shoes from their GoWalk collection.
I always end up with blisters every trip and this year I'm determined to be more comfortable and try to combat that. I think there is some kind of glide stick or something I can use too, I forget what it's called. I'm not much on moleskin, it seems to always come off.
Ok, I'm off to go sort some clothes, do laundry, and try to organize more for the trip. Oh by the way...look who is 7 months old today!
Love Owen's little shoes, and the photo of the smiling baby himself! Such a funny story about your mom. I hope they're ok alone at the house! Now she'll probably be too frightened of the alarm to use it at all. Woo hoo on the Mine Train FP!!

Aren't those shoes adorable? I can't believe he is already 7 months old. I wasn't able to snag many pics of him today because he likes to pull the sticker off. This one was cute though because it shows his 2 little teeth too.
I'm sure the alarm will be used, but knowing my mom, she won't touch it. My step father will be the sole operator, which is a good thing for all of us!
So sorry about the confusion your mom was having. Yikes! I adore the shoes! And I am so excited you got the Fast passes! The rest of your plans look fantastic! I cannot wait to hear how everything goes.

I'm sure some pics will get sent your way I'm freaking out over how fast it's approaching. You know how little time I have lately during the week. When will I get it all done?
Plans look great! Congrats on the FP+! I Owen's new shoes and so cool that all three of your guys will match. that your Mom and Dad and the house alarm have no problems while you all are gone.
OMG! Those little Converse baby shoes are soooooo cute! Makes me want to have another baby to buy those shoes for (okay, maybe they're not that cute ). I'm so excited that you got the Mine Train FP+'s. All your plans look great and I can't believe how quickly the trip is coming up.
