"Yes, The Past Can Hurt, But You Can Either Run From It or You Can Learn From It" - PTR - COMPLETED 9/20 #184 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hi, I just caught up on your PTR! Your title definitely grabbed me and I did not realize it was a Lion King quote, despite seeing the movie several times. Great report so far and looking forward to hearing about the package, although it does not sound like it was a positive thing! Hope whatever it is did not negatively affect your family!

Congrats on getting HDDR! I think you all will enjoy having a couple of days to sleep in a bit. You've left us hanging with the arrival at the door! More please!
Thanks! While I like the idea of sleeping in...it probably won't happen since I'm an early person:smirk I'm going to give an update tonight, now that I'm over the initial shock.

Glad to have you on board. I personally think Lion King has some of the best quotes.

So in this update we will find out what happened at the door and why I’m not very happy about this However, I will end this update on a positive note, since my trip to Disney will be happening pretty soon.
Remember when grownups would tell us not to answer the door if we didn’t know who it is? Well this is one time I wish my husband followed that advice, never the less, he not only opened the door he comes back in with a yellow legal envelope. Inside are court summons papers for us to appear in Court in August, a month before we go on vacation. Back in 2007, my husband and I lost our jobs and during that time we tried our best to make arrangements with our mortgage company, HSBC Beneficial. They refused to work with us through government assistance programs or by refinancing based on our new income, which was drastically lower, and so by 2011 we had no choice but to file bankruptcy and surrender our home to the mortgage company. In 2010 we decided to find a house for rent, since during all this time HSBC kept placing stickers of eviction notices on our front door. After the bankruptcy was discharged, HSBC placed a lock on the front door and changed the utilities out of our name and over their company. They told us we could no longer enter the home without their permission, since we surrendered it in the documents. This would have been fine with me except Will and I are still currently listed on the deed and the town home is part of a condo association, which apparently has been unpaid all this time, so now they are coming after us for delinquent payments and lawyer fees. We can’t sell the house and I not sure why or what HSBC is waiting for, but they are definitely dragging their feet. So now we have that little bit of drama on our plate right before we go on vacation.
All right now that is over for now... I promise everyone that I was going to end this on a positive note. I joined the Disney Movie Club a few months ago and I just received my shipment notice for a few of my favorite movies. In a few days my son and I will be watching the” Original Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh” and my DH and I will get a chance to relive our first date by watching Disney’s “Robin Hood”… love It!!!
Coming up next….Goofy online resort check-in and possible touring plans for day one
Oh no, that sounds like a real mess....so sorry you'll be dealing with this right before vacation. It seems you and your family really deserve some Disney magic since you've had a very difficult few years. I hope you can get everything settled before you leave!

Well after what appeared to be forever, my Disney Countdown clock finally reached the sixty day mark and I was so excited that the night before I could even sleep. I know I’m not going just yet, but for me checking in online makes me feel one step closer to being inside the “bubble”. Somehow I did manage to sleep through the night and woke up to my alarm at 6:00 o’clock in the morning. I quickly got out of bed and turned my computer on and five minutes later I started entering the information on the first page of the check in screen. Then of course everything started to go goofy. For the next fifteen minutes, my computer would not advance to the next step, instead Goofy would appear to let me know the site was not responding and to please try again. Now I don’t mind so much trying again, I just hate having to re-enter all the information over and over. At this point I have to stop and make my way into the kitchen to prepare Joshua’s favorite lunch for school…Grilled cheese. Afterwards, I quickly got dressed and glancing at the clock I noticed that I had ten more minutes to fool around with the website before I had to leave to go to work. At this point I’m so familiar with the screens, my fingers are quickly typing in the information and at this point the screen seems to be advancing as I am able to advance through the following areas:
· Arrival time and departure
· Confirm Pins for Magic bands (not sure if I’ll get them, since this is still new)
· Room requests (asked for the first floor and corner room)
At this point there is only one screen left and I’m pretty sure you can guess what happens next? Yep….There’s my favorite pal Goofy again. As much as I want to try again, I decided it’s time to head to work. I don’t think my boss would fully understand or appreciate it if I showed up to work late due to a Disney issue. The drive to work was uneventful and I actually arrived ten minutes early, so I decided to try one more time and maybe just maybe …..Yes!!!! The website finally gave up and allowed me to finalize my online check-in for the family.
Up next...selecting the attractions to explore at EPCOT and whether or not we are going to use a touring plan or just go with the flow.

Ugh! So frustrating when things don't work! I've had that happen when paying bills online a couple of times - just as I get everything input and I hit "pay" the site gets weird and I have to redo all of it. That's when something that is supposed to be a timesaver becomes a time-sucker! Looking forward to hearing your Epcot plans!
