The Two Week "Mini" Disney Vacation - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a pretty dog, I hope she's feeling better soon. All of my cats are rescues and we take in strays for the winter if they want to come in. I am the crazy cat lady.
Your plans look good--I can't wait to see what meals you have planned and hopefully you get those holes filled in soon--wouldn't want to waste meals!
Yeah, Mike. I was worried about hip displasia. But it seems that most of this is just pain from the infected wounds on her leg. And Thanks. She is gorgeous, but I'm partial.
I m sure you saw pic of my two and we often tell them that they are the pretty stinky sisters While not relly sisters they are pretty and they are stinky And naturally when then come all nice and warm with that fresh baked stinky dog smell they have to come to me for attention
Both of them came from local ASPCA here in Del
The minute I saw your Meg I couldn't help but think about my mothers 2 Goldens Jody and Neullah too bad they never figured out they where dogs And talk about spoiled not only did they have to get Apple pie when my mom made it they looked at you funny if they didn't get it a la mode
I'm late to the party so here are a few thoughts after reading your whole TR in one swoop:
-We also plan around our meals- totally! We did the DxDp once and enjoyed almost every mouthful! We would do it again in a heartbeat but plan more 2 credit meals because it is difficult to get hungry enough to eat 3 sit-down meals a day. You are trying some of our favs for the first time. Hoop de Doo is such great fun if you are "corny" and it sounds like you are, The Wave is my favourite place to eat breakfast in the entire world (not just WDW) Their coffee is awesome and especially appreciated after a week or so of WDW coffee, we ate there twice while on the DxDp because we enjoyed it so much the first time we cancelled ADRs at Cape May. We all had the eggs benedict with the "side" filet mignon - ridiculous!!!! Another awesome meal was O'Hanas (no leis when we were there last year) and do take a moment to go out to the beach, grab a hammock or lounge chair and catch the Electric Water Parade if you haven't seen it before. It's been running since WDW opened and really is very old-fashioned and sweet. The start time varies, I think, so ask a CM at the resort - they should know.
-our little poodle, Roxie, came back from the groomers recently and ended up costing us at the vet because she had sores on her face and neck that ended up infected. Sound familiar? The vet called it "clipper burn" so it must be fairly common.
-Make sure you take the time for Animation Academy. I can't remember if anyone answered your question but it is in the building with the exhibits. We found it after our first two trips and now it is a "must do" at least once a trip. They are my favourite souvenir. I love watching our sons' drawings improve as they age.
Whew! I think that's all I wanted to comment on other than to say great PTR - can't wait to hear all about it!

Oh we have 3 cats too! I can relate to being the crazy cat lady! Although the last two were DH's fault!

I thought your "stinky sisters" really were sisters! Of course, when Meg comes in with wet dog smell - must. roll. on. carpet. So I totally understand! Of course if you have apple pie - it MUST be ala mode. (My mother used to drive through McD's for a burger for her dog)

Meg is gorgeous! Poor puppy having sores. Hope she makes a quick recovery!
Your new plans sound as great as the rest! We are going to see the Osborne Lights next year on my FFP trip. I am excited about it!
Can't wait to hear you ADR roundup!
Thanks Sparks!

Welcome to the party, SuzieQ! . Glad to hear your thoughts! The Wave was kind of a wild card but that eggs benedict with filet sounds like a heart attack on a plate - YUM! I thought after O'Hana's we would try the Water parade or the fireworks from the beach. The vet did ask if it may be clipper burn. But her wounds were underneath a lot of fur. (the long feathers on the back of her legs) So I don't know whether it was from the trimming or just "hot spots" on the skin from allergies. Either way, the medication is working. And thanks for answering my ??? on the Animation Academy. Def want to do that with DH (he draws very well).
I want to thank you all for the Pixies for Meg. I think the steroids have kicked in as her limping is getting better. I am still doing wound care though.
Now - as far as the dining goes:
We are on the DxDP for 11 nights which comes out to 33 meals per person for a total of 66 credits. PLUS 22 snack credits pp for a total of 44 snacks! Man that is A LOT of food! I did prepare DH by letting him know that we may not even be able to use all of our credits. Looking at a breakdown of our ADR’s - we are only halfway there!
Here’s what we have booked -
Boma - 1 TS
Artist Point - 2 TS (new)
Kouzzina - 1 TS Breakfast
California Grill - 2 TS
Hoop-De-Doo - 2 TS (new)
LeCellier - (lunch) - 1 TS
50’s PTC - 1 TS (new)
Via Napoli - 1 TS (new)
WCC - 1 TS (new)
The Wave - 1 TS (new) - breakfast
Rose and Crown - 1 TS
O’Hana - 1 TS (new)
HBD - Dine with an Imagineer - OOP (new - although I have been to HBD before, just not DWI)
Jiko - 2 TS (new)
Yachtsman - 2 TS (new)
This is a total of 19 TS credits x2 = 36 TS credits out of 66. We have 30 left! We do have days when we have nothing planned until an evening ADR - we may use those for a walk up breakfast or a CS somewhere. We may be able to do this but I still think we may have left over credits. Then there’s all those snacks! Last year, DH would go looking for a snack and come back with popcorn or a Mickey bar and I asked if he used our snack credit and he always said “no”. He kept forgetting about them! Needless to say, we took home a lot of rice crispy treats! The good thing going for us this year is you can use snack credits at F&WF.
To me it still sounds like we are eating our way through WDW. But it should be sooooo good! Any suggestions? Anything I'm missing?

Do you not like character meals?
How about in the castle? It is a really neat experience! I think it's something everyone should do at least once, even adults. I would have suggested it except you have so many credits left and it cost 2 credits each.
Another really nice buffet dinner and great atmosphere is 1900 Park Fare.
Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch is excellent for the NE Pot Roast. OMG! So good. That just sounds like something that you might like to me.

Otherwise, what you got looks great!
Glad to hear Meg is doing better!
I really want to do the castle sometime. DH isn't too keen on the character meals though. I suggested 1900 PF for dinner with Cinderella and the step sisters and step mother. DH's reply was "Why? We could just have dinner with your family!" (I am kinda the "black sheep" in my family - haven't spoken to my mother in over 9 years! but that's a whole other story!) You got us pegged - we did LTT last year! I may see if we can squeeze in the castle for breakfast or something.
Chuck here
First of all Meg is doing much better after her trip to Dr. Keith.she's smiling, and walking normally.
We tend to do planning every day instead of just "ubber-planning" sessions.Sometimes for me,at least,I make lists all day to "escape" the stress of work.SO when we get together we discuss the trip and our plans. We may seem to others that we are obsessed, but they don't really understand,WE ARE!
Tracy(coop) always has fantastic ideas so I leave a lot of the real planning and reservations to her.BTW,we got ALL our choices on the dining plan when we made reservations. We also left a lot of time in our planning for just "playing it by ear"
That's when we have some out best times.
More later,thanks for reading,and commenting!

Yeah, I understand about the character meals. I personally love them, but will admit that it just isn't quite as fun (to me at least) without DD. I felt silly last year, had no idea what to say to them, and more than once ended up just giggling like a little girl. My most embarrassing moment at WDW was with Tiana. I did the above described giggle and the only words I could get out of my mouth the entire time was "Omg, your so beautiful!" of course followed by more said childish giggling.
To Chuck's comments about family dinner! I can relate with the family stuff, I am very close with my family...DH however is the black sheep of his and he has 7 brothers and sisters!
I had the feeling about LTT! When you talked about steaks and the things you cook at home. I just knew it! I LTT! Dinner or lunch.

Hi Chuck! and nice to meet you. I'm Sparky, Coops friend. Glad you came along to join in the party!
@ they don't really understand, WE ARE!
for all you ADR's and getting them on first try. That's always super nice! I think it's great to have time to play it by ear. You are right, some of the best times are those quiet, unplanned, unexpected moments.
I am so glad to hear Meg is doing better with her meds. Yay!!
