Tom You’ve Just Turned 30…What’s Next?...We’re Going to WDW!! (01/09-01/22) PTR - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Not too much vacation planning happening this weekend. The fleas have returned with a vengeance. Now my son is getting bit too (Ithink). Our exterminator would not honor his warranty so now we are calling in terminix, they are going to do a bed bug inspection too to put my mind at ease. It doesn’t even seem like the advantage is working on our pets. We still see a few on them. I am hoping that the fall winter weather kills them as well.
We bought a dehumidifier for the basement which I read could help. Although now I am also worried we brought some strays to my aunt’s cottage and infested her. She has no pets and hardly anyone is ever there except for weekends but I would feel terrible if her cottage got infested. The only reason I worry about it is because I noticed some new bites while we were there this weekend and Alex got a couple bites. (Although they didn’t bite him before when the infestation was at its worst or if they did he never reacted.) There are all kinds of biting insects out at that place so maybe we got mosquito, gnat, or whatever other biting insects there are.
Although today I was able to make our reservations for HDD on 1/9 so that was a good thing. My aunt had time this weekend to read the plans and ADR’s we have and she loves them all. She and her neighbors think I have a calling as a TA. Maybe we’ll see.
Day Nine and Ten (1/15/12-1/16/12)
We will start day nine with a breakfast ADR at WCC and then I am pretty sure we are going to spend some time at EP. That night is Tom and my date night. We have a dinner ADR at CRT and then spend the evening at MK (they have EMH that night). I am not sure what Sue and Alex will do, I think she is going to stay at FWC to go swimming or play at the playground.
The next morning we have a breakfast ADR at Ohana’s and will be going to HS. Hopefully Alex is in the mood to see a couple of the shows they do. I know Tom wants to see the Stunt show and I think there are a few shows Alex will enjoy too. Last year when we went to Sea World Alex really liked the Shamu show so I think he will like the Disney ones too. That evening we have a dinner ADR at Sci-fi Dine in. I was told you need to request the car when you check in so I will do that. Afterwards depending on the time we will see what is going on in the evening at FW or just head back to the cabin and relax.
Every evening there is a campfire nd free move in FtW at Meadows Complex and in years past they had a singer at Trails end that sang a load of family songs including my favorite I'm My Own Grandpa
Sorry about the fleas but hang in there! I know from experience that it took forever to finally get rid of them. They just kept hatching and I was at my wit's end so I feel for you. Be diligent on the flea meds and see if Terminix has a schedule you can set up for recurring treatments until the problem is solved.
So sorry the fleas have come back! More great plans!
Thank You!!

Terminix will come out every quarter and inspect and retreat so we set that up with them. I know it will take awhile to resolve this so I just have to be patient.
More great plans!! Congrats on booking HDDR!! Sorry the fleas are back. It's been a horrible season. The worst I've seen in the 10 years I've worked at the animal hospital.

Thank You! I have heard it has been a bad season for fleas. I think because of all the humidity and dampness. Oh well. We'll get through it.
I'm just jumping in to your PTR now as I haven't been on for a while. Congrats on your upcoming tripS! How exciting.... as I was reading I was thinking... hmmm Gardner, it's a couple hours north but I could totally sneak in the back with the luggage
btw, Hi Neighbor!
We have indoor cats, I've never thought about fleas but now I sit here itching just from reading about them, (and i'm at work no where near my cats, lol)... is it primarily animals that go outside that get them?
I love all the plans so far! and I love that both your DH and DA are so into the planning as well. I am alone in my love for planning so the more I tell DH about the trip the less he wants to hear and he dreads planning any more trips. I need to remember to tell you all my details and tell him NOTHING! lol
Since you have the free dining, it's probably pointless to mention but I was going to say it may make more sense to do APs for multiple trips. I think it's not much more than the 10 day park hopper you are buying for the Jan trip. We bought APs and also bought the Tables in Wonderland card so we got 20% off on all our meals. I'm sure you already did the entire excel spreadsheet and crunched numbers though (I did too! LOL) For us, we have trouble with too many table service meals as our DD just isn't happy sitting still for that long. If they come out with AP discounts for January it might be worth a re-crunch on the numbers, LOL

Hi Neighbor!
I am surprised at how many PP's are from MA. We should all meet somewhere and talk disney. Although I think we may notice a stowaway in the van though. lol.
My cats are indoor cats but our dog goes outside. I have done a lot of reading on fleas and even though the cats are indoors they should be protected with Frontline or Advantage because if they are around you could bring acouple in on your clothes and the infestation begins but if they are prtected they will just die before they can infest. I made the mistake of not being proacitve and I will never do that again. It has been a nightmare but hopefully Terminix will do a good job and we will be on the other side of this.
I think I enjoy the planning more than they do but they love that I do it and all they have to do is go on the trip or get to the ADR's on time. Although they also don't mind talking about it either. I think everytime we are together we talk disney lol.
You are right I did do A LOT of number crunching and even if they do offer an AP discound in January "Free Dining" still saves us more in the end, even with the deluxe upgrade. I think we will end up upgrading to AP's while we are there in Jan. since we are going back in less than a year. I will still most likely recalculate if they offer AP rates in Jan. just to see.
