Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We did Wizard of Oz at work a few years ago. I was Glinda and got to wear my wedding dress again! Village People is a good idea. I let people have a choice between pirates & hippies and hippies won. I'll probably get some peace sign necklaces and stuff too. Now I'm getting excited again!
Party City already has Halloween stuff!! I was in there this morning - nice selection of hippie items!
Due to an unfortunate incident with a golf cart this weekend, I am in need of a new camera. My beloved Canon will turn on but not take pictures. Poop.
So for the last two days I have been googling Canon cameras. Finally decided on the PowerShot SX230hs. Great. Does ANY store have it in stock so I can play with it first? Nope. Great.
As luck would have it, my coworker found one (and only one) at a local Staples and is running over there to get it. Tomorrow I'll get to try it out. Then I'll get a cool magnetic Gorilla Pad Tripod!
Once I purchase the camera, my old Canon will start working again. This is how I ended up with two Canon cameras. Soon, I'll have three. Oh well.
And to answer your question (before you ask), yes alcohol was involved in the golf car incident but I wasn't driving nor was I hurt. Just the camera. And my watch (little nic). Ok, ok, I also have some road rash but I'm still laughing about it. I also managed to get pictures of the incident as it happened. That's probably how I fell off in the golf cart.

Darn budding photography obsession....
OMG!!! I am sorry.......but I am totally laughing right now (and I know I shouldn't be.......but obviously you are okay!) but before I even got to the bottom "disclaimer" I thought - there had to have been some type of alcohol involved!!!
Glad you are okay! But that really sucks about the camera and the watch!!!

Just got all caught up. I read your last trip report and laughed the whole way through so I will definitely be following along for this one!! I have never gone solo but my sister and I went together last year and had a blast deciding what to do at the spur of the moment.
Your golf cart story sounds hilarious! Glad you were okay and can laugh about it! I'm looking to get a new camera for my upcoming trip and I have always had a Canon so I am going to have to look at that one. I looked at the PowerShot SD1400 IS but the reviews weren't spectacular for it, I think I just wanted it cause it looked sleek and cool.
It seems like the trip is forever away but I will be here before you know it! Can't wait to read more!!
I have the canon sd1300 for my point and shoot and love it!!!! It actually tales fantastic night time photos too! It's nice and small and very user friendly!

Thanks for the review! Sometimes I think they don't give great reviews for the smaller/cheaper cameras because they want you to buy the more expensive ones. I only need a user friendly, point and shoot so that sounds perfect!! Thanks again!!

No Problem! Happy to help! Actually my friend bought the SD1400.....and she prefers mine - the SD1300!!! It is much easier to use! And quite a few dollars less!!! I have seen many places offer it for $129 with case and memory card!

Ugh! I've been unable to get on the boards since Friday afternoon!! Internet Explorer will not bring up the page. It was awful..
On a positive note, I bought my MNSSHP tix today!!!!!!!!!! Thursday, October 6th I will be in MK in costume!! My first MNSSHP!!!!
I literally woke up, jumped out of bed and turned on the computer. I am so psyched!!!
I also found out that a coworker of mine is going to be celebrating her 21st bday at the F&WF on my recommendation! She mentioned it to her parents and they said ok! They probably let out a huge sigh of relief when they discovered she would like to turn legal in Disney rather than Vegas.
Hopefully she will be there the same weekend as I. She is going to pick up a Passporter this weekend and start planning.
I also helped another coworker begin planning his family's first trip to Disney. Another Passporter sold! Isn't helping folks plan trips??? Especially their first trips.

Looks like I'm going to have to take a road trip to NJ! When I moved to SC in 2008, I had to leave abruptly - landlord decided that he was selling the house in two weeks so I threw everything in storage, loaded up my Mustang to capacity and headed south to move in with a friend.
So, for three years all my photos, knick knacks and non essentials have be stuck in a 5x10 cell. Every Christmas while decorating the tree, I miss my Disney ornaments.
For a few months now, my coworker and Disney vacation buddy, Jennie #1 has been dangling a carrot in front of me. She wants to take a road trip north and get all my things out of storage. She has a Yukon XL (the "bus" from our previous trip) that can tow one of those Uhaul trailers. We could easily fit most of my items in the bus & trailer and I'll probably just give away my couch & entertainment center since I don't have room in my current house.
BUT, the main reason Project Storage is going into effect is because my Captain Jack Sparrow costume is in there! I also have a unworn Snow White costume but everyone loved my Capt. Jack costume so much, I've decided to wear it to MNSSHP this year.
The drive will be 1500 miles round trip which will have to be done in one weekend since I don't have any vacation time available until September. Should take about 13-15 hours each way with one stop for gas. Nice way to spend a weekend but I'll have all my stuff!!
Thank you MNSSHP for giving me the kick in the rear I needed to get up to Jersey!!!
And thank you to all the PPs that are getting me super excited for the Party even though its five months away!!
