Taggin' Along Compliments of Disney! - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just found your TR, Melissa. Looks like you've got a great trip planned with your Mom. Your relationship sounds just like mine with my mom! Can't wait to hear all about it. Also, you and I have similar tastes in resorts!

This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. and !!! I would just love to stay at the Poly one day. Maybe if I save up enough of my points I will be able to one day. How old is your DD? She looks adorable. It also looks like you're going to be visiting WDW soon...and at the Poly too!!!B]
Thany you, Josie will be just about 3 during our trip in early October ( squeaked in one last "free" trip for her before her b-day)
I don't know how I forgot this, I lived in Pikesville, Maryland for about 5-6 months while going to school. That was a very long time ago though
Hope you do get to stay at the Poly one day. I kinda love seeing that castle every night and every morning
Melissa, I will certainly let you know when we're going to Port Discovery, and if you aren't busy we certainly would love to meetup with you (I didn'twantto hijack your TR with that). The room for children 4 and under isSkyler's favorite room there(and could probably play in there all day long). I figured I would mention it incase you & Chad wanted to take Hope there and know there is a room she might enjoy. Ithink on Jetblue they have a tracker on the in-flight entertainment screens you can see where you're flying over, so as soon as I see Orlando(which i know in the air is 45 minutes away from where we are flying into) hopefully nobody willbe in the window seat next to us so we can waive to you! I haveto say Moms are the best. It is so nice to hear you have a wonderful relationship with your mom and are able to have her, and Hope, as Disney Travel Companions. I certainly hope this trip is much more magical for you than the fiasco at Chef Mickey's on your last trip. Thanks that was sweet of you, it would hve been so nice to be in Disney at the same time as you too. One day it will happen!
Yay for BCV!!! We stayed at BC (no "V" for us ) and now it's our favorite resort!! I get a little tummy flip whenever I read of someone staying there! We stayed at the Poly twice and thought that was our favorite (and I would love to stay there again) but it will be quite hard to get my DH to switch from BC. He's completely smitten with it. And the walk to Epcot is just fantastic! And we also feel the same way about the Contemporary. Although cool, it just seems the most 'hotelish'. I just made that a word. And it is absolutely NOT a trip to WDW without seeing the castle...at least IMHO.

Hi Sharon!!! Thanks for hopping on over here. I noticed that you and your mom seemed really close, which I think is sooo great. You just can't put into words that kind of relationship. Have fun on your trip and I can't wait to read all about it.

Chad's grandfather lives in Pikesville so we've visit that area often. It's only about 20 minutes from us. Not sure if you're familiar or not, but we're in Bel Air...trying to jog your memory. Anyway, I will be doing the same exact thing when we go in May 2012 by trying to get one more free trip in before Hope turns 3! And while we won't be staying at the Poly, we will hopefully be staying at my favorite resort...AKL.

Thanks for thinking of us. Us mothers need to stick together. So right after I'm done traveling with my mom and child you will be doing the same. I hope you have as much fun as we plan on having!

It's so good to hear that so many people like this resort. I've noticed that the BCV are all the way to the other side of the main part of the resort, but that's still okay with me. And I do like your new word...I agree that the Contemporary is very "hotelish".

One day I'd LOVE to stay at BC. Can't wait to see pics!
I went to school at Loyola. My dorm was on Cold Spring Lane. It was on the border of campus property, and next to the dorm was a bank and convenience store, both of which got held up almost nightly. It was ridiculous!
I am excited to hear what you think of BCV. I would love to be able to book there for October 2011. Just probably won't be available at that 7 month window. I'll have to see.

I promise to take lots of photos! Yeah, Cold Spring Lane isn't the best of areas, and I don't frequent that area often...only if I have to go past it to get to the Maryland zoo. But I do know where Loyola is.

I'll give you all the details. It's so hard to get the resort of your choice at the 7 month window if it isn't your home resort. I've gotten lucky the past 2 times, but I definitely don't know how long that's going to last.
The When: (The most boring part thus far, but I’ll try my best to add some excitement to it).
The dates of our trip were pretty much already decided for us since we were basically hijacking my friend’s trip. The only problem is since we both work in the same department we couldn’t take off that much time together. Actually, our boss doesn’t even know we traveling together…it’s a hush hush top secret trip around these parts.
Since we had the 2-day passes, and we were trying to save as much money as we could, we decided to fly down on a Thursday and leave on a Sunday. Not enough time in our minds, but we also figured a little time was better than no time at all. So our dates were decided, September 23rd to September 26th. Oh God, it looks even shorter when you put it in writing! Anyway, we thought if we could find an early enough flight that would give us as much time to play on Thursday we would take it, and then we could almost feel as if we had three whole days in the world!!! Yipee!!! Can you just feel the sarcasm??? There is only one other negative with this scenario besides not having that much time in Disney...I will be missing the first Grey’s Anatomy episode of the season! But thank goodness for my DVR, it’s my saving grace.
So, I hate having to get up super early just to rush to the airport and wait. I mean, they tell you to allow 2 hours to get through security because you know the lines are going to be soooooo long at that time of day (more sacrcasm), and they never are. Plus I’m adding a toddler on top of all of that early morning waiting and what you have is a recipe for fun! Our flight is at 7:45am (I know, it could have been earlier) so if all goes well, we should be landing in sunny Orlando by 10am! Since, I’m not a fan of using the ME luggage service I will also have to collect my luggage from baggage claim. Since we aren’t going to a park that day, I would much rather leave my luggage with bell services and collect it when my room is ready. So hopefully when it’s all said and done we’ll be on that ME bus by 10:30am (extreme wishful thinking on my part).
I would have booked a late flight home, but all of the late flights were connecting flights. Since I hate to fly, I would much rather go through the torture of taking off and landing once instead of twice, so we booked a 12 noon return flight. This means we will probably get picked up from the hotel around 9am…so sad, but it’s better than being picked up even earlier.
Now the one thing I’m a little nervous about, besides the actual flying part, that I didn’t have to deal with before is my daughter’s new found mobility! She started walking 2 days after her 1st birthday, and if she sits still for too long she starts to get antsy and wants to walk everywhere. Since I didn’t buy her a seat, I’m a little worried about how well she will sit on my lap for the entire flight. I’m hoping she will fall asleep for most of the flight to Orlando since we’ll be getting up so early, but it’s the flight home that has me concerned. I definitely don’t want to be that person who can’t keep their child quiet, but what do I do to keep her occupied, I mean, her attention span is probably the size of a fly’s right now. I have nightmares of her running up and down the aisle screaming in delight while I’m getting evil red-eyed stares from the passengers who are pelting me with bags of peanuts because I can’t catch her. Okay…so the red-eyes are a bit much, but everything else could happen right?
Plus she’s now a whopping 32 inches long, so how comfortable is that really going to be for the both of us??? I’m regretting my decision to save a couple bucks and not buy her a seat, but it’s too late now because both of our flights are now sold out…this means more angry passengers and more peanuts to be pelted with! I can only pray that someone is looking over me and puts a sleep spell on my child until those wheels touch the ground…that can happen too right? I think I'll start praying right now just to get a head start on it.
I first flew with my DD when she was 15months. She sat on my lap and I brought along tons of food, drinks and a portable DVD player. She is really into Mickey's Clubhouse, so I found a DVD that had like 4 or 5 epsidoes on it. She ate and watched most of that the whole flight from AC, same thing for the way home, but this time she fell asleep. Also if you have an I-phone or an I-touch show her how to use that and you can download any type of show you want. I think as long as you bring enough things to keep them busy ( food, drinks, shows, books, crayon etc......) you should be fine.
But really, at the end of the day, they are babies and babies cry and get cranky. If someone wants to give you looks or talk smack about you, let them. Do you really care what strangers think of you?? As long as we try to keep our little ones quite and well behaved in situations such as flying, what more can one do. Don't strees, you will be fine

Me and Cole in the Sears Tower Skydeck, 103 floors up, in a glass box hanging off the side!
Sam was 18 months on his second trip and also very tall for his age. He is like 95th % and over 38 inches now at not quite 29 months. So I know what you mean about those legs. I can't remember how tall he was at the time of our flight but I had him on my lap and yes I had to be creative with where to put his legs and my legs especially if we put the tray down, but we did fine. Luckily we had a woman sit next to us on the end and she was very nice. For the most part Sam sat on my lap watching some movie, looking out the window and standing on my lap to look around at everyone, or he would move to my husbands lap. I was so paranoid every time he moved or made a noise but in the end, the woman next to us told us how well behaved he was and I was pretty much in shock since I felt he could have been better! ha! The flight home was in the evening and he conked out as soon as the plane took off and slept until we landed, luckily that flight wasn't full and we were able to snag an emtpy seat between us! You will be fine and just like Linny said, don't worry what others think, even though its hard sometimes, you have to expect kids to make some noise. Its always the people that don't really care for children that give the looks, and honestly did they forget that they were once children and someone had to put up with them!
I can't wait for your take on BCV since we are thinking of maybe staying there if we do a short trip in April before Sam turns 3.
