The Daring Duck Disney Destination Duo - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

That was a new feature this year. Good part I did not mention, is you get out of the park quicker as you are on the closed end of the lake to the exit bridge.
Yea, I didn't know that either! What's up with that?
Feeling guilty.. its been four days since I posted an installment and I still have a week to cover
Tuesday
I Animal Kingdom. For me, AK has to start with a visit to Tusker house and breakfast with my beloved Donald. First was the suprise. Donald was outside with a pre-seating picture, and did not come inside for tableside visits.
So I had one chance for a photo
Breakfast there is in my opinion the best character breakfast (not because of DD being there, but the best food ) With my coffee and jungle juice at my seating, off to get the carved (off the bone ) ham, blintzes, yam casserole and warm banana-cinnamon bread pudding). Not just your ordinary pancakes and waffles like the other ones :
Done with breakfast, we were only held at the entrance to Harambe for rope drop. So I made it onto the second Safari truck of the day. This proved interesting as partway through the savannah, the truck ahead of us came to a stop for a long time . About ten minutes later (while having giraffes slowly walk by our truck) a pickup came high tailing it across the plains and stopped nose to nose with the safari vehicle in front of us. The cage under the truck to protect birds had come loose and they had to fix it before we/they could start back up.
Completing a great, looooooong, safari, we returned to harambe. Next stop for me is a stroll down the Pangani Forest exploration trail. Time to indulge myself in gorilla watching. One nice one was offering to share his lunch with us.
Then visit to Rafikis planet watch where they were giving a snake its physical.
Returning to Harambe, it was off to EE to get a fast pass, then to a nice 'swim' with Nemo and his friends.
Then to Flame Tree for some pulled pork lunch (trying not to get mugged by the birds), and off to the tree of life
From there off to Lion King, and finishing roaring (I was in the Lion section) it was time for photos with Donald, and then back to the main village for the Parade.
Completing my full day, I returned to my spacious luxury digs at Pop Century and had the Meatloaf dinner, swam while I did laundry, then watched the sports news and crashed.

I ate a light (danish/coffee) breakfast, as I knew I had to face tummy movers here. Off to the studios at opening, and joined the throng getting a fast pass for Toy Story Mania. While waiting for the fast pass time to arrive, I rode the studio tour.
On to Toy Story (with fast pass it took 7 minutes to get on). I scored better than I ever had before . Then backtracked to TOT and RRC. Got fast pass for RRC and standby for TOT (wait was posted at 13 minutes ), Did both, and then got an ice cream to settle my upset stomach I(I am not : a thrill ride person . Next was lunch at Mama Melrose -Steak (yes they had it for lunch on the dining plan) and Honey Hazelnut and Ricotta cheesecake Off to Indiana Jones
and then lights, motors action (caught the car in mid air).
and toured the streets to look at the light strings in daylight
somewere in that time I saw the parade
Got a burger at Rosies all american cafe and awaited dusk. No fantasmic tonight, so I roamed the Streets of america (got a cone of chestnuts to much on). I had so many pictures from last year, I did not take more this year.

Thursday Dec 10-AK day #2
You will notice a change in the TR as my trip starts changing at this point. Attractions, second and meets with my Passporter peeps (and others ) first.
As usual, I am at the park at opening after a quick ts breakfast at POP. Once inside it was up to the rope drop by the stores across from Discovery island. To great fanfare of characters on a safari like vehicle, Mickey ascended into the air in front of the tree of life to open the park
One big difference from two days ago. It was drizzling, so ponchos, and long pants for the only time on my 17 days of DCL and WDW )Then off to Harambe (stopping to enjoy the drummer/percussionist)
to catch an early Safari. I followed my usual pattern, Safari, Planet watch, Pangani Forest Trail, Marajah Jungle Trek, get a fast pass for EE, do the Bird Show, do EE, catch Lion King (a warthog this time), lunch at Pizzafari (with a Brazilian tour group right behind me ) then off to Nemo. After Nemo it was watch the EE meet people take their ride
Then off to Bob and Larry's Yak Attack meet. We sat at the outdoor tables, but had to go in to get Yak Attacks (17 of them ). You should have seen the bartender's expression when one person ordered them all. Photos of the meet:
I had to snatch an unsuspecting CM to take the group photo (you can hear me on the video link that was posted.
for the lanyard Bob and Larry. Now all I need is an easy to imitate recipe (those were good )
The day finished with dinner at Yak N Yeti will fellow passporters Empress Liz Bunny and Eeyore Tattoo. The food was great! I had Baby Back ribs (with Hoisin BBQ sauce, chicken fried rice and chili slaw) and fried pinapple and cream cheese wontons with vanilla icecream and honey vanilla drizzles
