As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Another great update! Loved the pictures, it seems like no matter where you go there is something wonderful in the landscape to see. Don't know if I could handle driving over there, though, from your description of the roads and drivers!

Tuesday 16 September – part two: now where is that restaurant?
When we’d finished up there, we took the elevator back down to the reception and picked Barb up, who’d been sitting in reception. Then it was out and off for a drive along the seafront. We were able to find parking, so stopped and headed into a nearby restaurant for a light lunch, stopping to take some ground level shots of the beach:
We were planning on just getting toasted sandwiches in there, but we were presented with a very fancy menu, which didn’t have anything on it that had been advertised outside. With a waitress who spoke very little English and me speaking very little Spanish, we got there in the end. There was another menu with those items on it, but to sample that menu, you had to sit outside. OK, well, we could live with that.
Once settled outside, I went for the cheese sandwich, Dave and Barb had the tuna and tomato one and Mark had a hamburger, all reasonably priced and just what we needed to fill us up again.
We returned to the car and headed out to Carrefour, one of the biggest supermarket chains on the continent. It’s French in origin and I can only describe it as a European version of Wal-Mart. It was huge inside and sold everything you could want, which is just as well, as we had some pretty unusual requirements, including wipes for computer screens, crème brulee and feta cheese and we succeeded in getting all of those items. I also got a few more bottles of sangria to road test to see which ones we liked, all cheaper than yesterday. My goodness, this stuff is so cheap out here, it’s amazing they manage to put alcohol in the bottles for that price!
From there, it was back in the car and back to the villa, getting some more lovely views of first Benidorm and then the Spanish countryside on the way.
The afternoon was spent with some swimming and some sunbathing, but my goodness, it was a lot hotter than the last couple of days, so I didn’t last that long out in the sun before I started to burn. Whatever happened to that drizzle that they forecast for us?!

By the early evening, discussion turned to where we were going to eat that night. I think it’s fair to say that there was some debate about the merits of a local British steakhouse, but really it didn’t appeal to me. It didn’t help that my sister-in-law, who’s also veggie, had been there and hadn’t had a great vegetarian lasagne, apparently the only dish on the menu for us non meat eaters. I didn’t like to, but I rejected that idea and we agreed to go into Moraira and see what we liked the look of. We found a couple of recommendations from family members, but the problem was finding the restaurants.
After abandoning the sat nav, as it was obviously taking us way out of town, we parked up and walked through the town, towards the church, as that’s apparently where the restaurants were. Well, we were darned if we could see them!
Then we decided that we’d just head towards the seafront and eat at one of the many restaurants down there – what do we find? The two restaurants we were looking for! How typical is that?! We opted for Cap d’Or, which seemed to have a lovely menu, full of fish, meat and even pizza offerings. It was certainly very comprehensive and reasonably priced. Mark settled for sardines for starter, followed by swordfish with Mediterranean sauce, while I opted for the swordfish without the sauce. Barb went for the seabass, while Dave had the chicken.

In between waiting for my main course to arrive, I kept nipping out along the seafront to get some photos of the sunset. I had realised during our time here that you have to move fast to catch any sunset or sunrise shots, as it’s almost a case of blink and you’ve missed it. They happen very fast here.
The meal was superb – I don’t think I’ve ever tasted such good swordfish in my life. It was cooked to perfection and the herbs with it were just wonderful, they really set it off well. All in all, I didn’t hear any complaints around the table about the quality of the food at all. It was a great choice. The bill for the four of us came to 65 Euros again, the same as the night before (about £50).
After dinner, we went for a walk along the seafront and took some lovely night-time shots. It was very chilly as we walked along there, with the wind whipping up from the sea. I was very glad of the sweatshirt I’d brought with me.
Then it was back to the villa, where I had a tiramisu that we’d bought earlier in the day at the supermarket and Dave had his crème brulee, only there was – how shall we say? – a bit of a commotion when it came to cooking it. It really sounded as if he was wrecking the oven, the noises that we heard coming from the kitchen!
Today we walked 4.06 miles. The weather today was hot and sunny with temperatures in the early 80’s. The best thing today was the views from the top of Bali hotel. The worst thing today was having to say no to the steakhouse, knowing I was upsetting everyone else’s plans. Today we tried going to Altea market And the result was we found some great bargains. The most magical moment today was seeing the view from the Bali hotel as we went on to the roof.

Great update. Just stunning pictures. Both restaurants sounded good. Interesting about the lunch place with fancy inside and a casual menu outside. We experienced that a few time in Montreal.
