As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I talked to Sandy on the phone this a.m. and told her if we get more people than we already have, we can have it at my house. With my kitchen open to the living room, I have seating for 13, not including any folding chairs (which I don't have so Carousel would have to bring ). So, with folding chairs, we could seat a lot more. DH would just have to take my dog out for the evening.
If necessary, do you think everyone could handle my red couch and purple chairs, Maggie? (Note: when I told Maggie about my colors, I think she about died of a heart attack. ) By the way, I forgot to mention my purple wall that runs the length of the kitchen and LR...
Michelle-your colors in your house look great! By the way, I could probably bring a couple folding chairs too if needed. Also, if anybody needs a ride Friday night, let me know. I could take three people with me and I live really close to MOA.

Vicky, I'll keep you posted on whether we need more folding chairs. And I think Sue and Mo were hoping they could ride with you for Friday.
We're really looking forward to having everybody here Friday night! Maybe MOA 7's Friday night shindig can be at Michelle's so you can all see that awesome purple wall!
Purple is my signature color. I LOVE LOVE LOVE purple. Sounds cool!
Well Lori, you would love my house then! Our front door is painted purple and in the summer we plant purple petunias and red impatients to line the sidewalk! My favorite color (not to wear though) is purple and DH's is red, thus we love the decorating in our house. When most people see our house, they say, "oh that's interesting" as a way of not knowing what to say. I don't care though, it makes me happy to be in such bright colors!
Earlier there was a question about where people are staying. I've been doing some checking and it looks like there are several motels in the area. Have any of you from out of town made reservations yet?

I haven't made the ressie yet, but it looks like we are going to be staying at the Courtyard by Marriot at the MOA. They have a pretty good internet deal, I think it was $99/night.
I have my airline tickets and I've already rented a car (another sweet weekend deal from Dollar! ), just need to book the room and we are good to go!
We've stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott (my fave hotel in the area) several times. The other year we stayed at the Fairfield (?) Inn by Marriot which is across from the MOA. Jason and I just stayed at the Hampton Inn in Richfield this last weekend and it was really nice. I had a coupon from our local paper and it cost us $146 for two nights! I have one more that I'm planning to use for the MOA meet. If they publish them again, I'll cut them out to share with people!

I talked to the manager at Archiver's today -- she's so excited about our group! (She doesn't remember us, but she's excited to hear we're coming. LOL) She said they'd be happy to give us the back/side room for some privacy -- not so much for us, but for other folks who might want to scrap that night! They have some kind of deal on Manias -- buy 11, get the 12th free, I think? -- and that we should, if possible, have one person call to make that reservation and ensure we get the discount and the back/side room. We're supposed to call back in early August, when their September calendar will be ready. She took my name and Vicky's, so one of us will collect the $$$ and make the reservation as it gets closer.
I know it is aways off yet, but just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on where we should do lunch that Saturday. In the past we have done Rainforest Cafe, Ruby Tuesday, Bubba Gump's, and of course last year Kokomo's. If we wanted to try something different again this year, a couple suggestions might be Famous Daves or Tucci Benucch. Here are the menus for each:
Because we have such a large group, closer to the date we should probably get exact numbers so that we can try to get a reservation wherever we end up. It is going to be so much fun this year!

When Amy (Iamgrumpy) and I came out 2 years ago, we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, which I would highly recommend. They had a MOA package and they offered free shuttle service to and from the airport and MOA. The rooms were large, clean and nice and they even had an indoor pool and hot tub. Breakfast was even included. I'm saving my $ for a trip to WDW, but I hope all who attend have a great time this year.

I think you are being unfair to me. I NEVER made comments to you about your purple walls and red couch. (I may have THOUGHT them, but never voiced them. ). I just said you would find my house boring because we have all white walls and the color scheme is sort of olive and gold - rather drab compared to purple and red! Of course, I am excluding my CRAZY gray walls we have in the Mickey bathroom.
I can't wait to see everyone. I don't have an opinion really on lunch. Was the Tucci Benuchi place a little more "fancy"? I don't really know, I just remember there was what looked more like a fancy place.

The California Cafe and Napa Valley Grille may have been restaurants that you noticed before. Both of them are more expensive and a little bit fancier. Tucci Benucch is on the first level by the west entrance. It is a northern Italian restaurant with wonderful food that is fairly comparably priced to the places we have gone to in the past. In general it is fairly casual--I have eaten there a lot and have never dressed up for it. The service is excellent. DD and I went there for lunch one day, and before I even had a chance to pour olive oil out on my plate for the complimentary bread that they give you, our lunch was served! I don't really care where we end up either. I just thought I would throw out a couple more options for everyone.
