Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

We've never been to the Rainforest Cafe and every time we think about it, we read experiences like yours and knock it off our plans again. I'm sorry you had such a nightmare time there and you were more patient than us - a 20 minute wait was way too much for us at the one at Disneyland!

Great update Angie We've got a RFC at our mall, so thankfully we skip that at Disney! I'm sorry it was another rough afternoon but at least things seemed better for the night!
Love the pics! More please

I've only gone to the RF once and that was enough. Sorry about your afternoon.

Re: Three strikes & you\'re out trip! 6/6-6/11/06 Updated 6/25 Day 2 part 3
Day 2, part 3- No Chocolate Shake for You! And Do We get Caught?
Heidi and I got in line at Rosie’s All American, while Troy accompanied Dusty to Toluca Legs Turkey Co., because she had a hankerin’ for one. Stormy was in the mood for something sweet, so she lined up at Hollywood Scoops for some ice cream.
After I placed our order and paid, I left Joey in charge of waiting for the food, while I went to see if HS made shakes.
I got in line, not realizing that Stormy was ahead of me until she called me over.
So yes folks, I cut about 4 people in line. I was in a hurry!
With no sign of a blender, I wasn’t surprised that the CM said So I got Joe chocolate ice cream, he could let it melt to make his chocolate shake.
After some initial protests claiming melted ice cream does not a shake make, he wolfed that puppy down!
It was 10:15p.m and I thought we’d be taking our food to eat at Fantasmic, after all this was not slow season at the parks, but The Havens had a different idea yet again. So we sat at one of the picnic tables across from the entrance and I nervously ate my fries as I watched more and more people entering. Troy decided to head back to the room, as he seemed to be coming down with something.
Finally at 10:29, the rest of us made our way into the stadium/theatre and kept getting ushered to the next section. All seating, except for the handicapped sections were full. At this point the show begins and we politely ask a CM if we could sit in the handicapped section, since they were practically empty and we’d passed several sections already. He asked his manager, who proceeded to tell us that we needed to move to the next section and not block the walkway. This right after he allowed a family of 5 to sit in the section with no handicap member in their party.
So we were almost at the farthest section to the left and the show was going on. I made an executive decision to have us sit our bums in the next available handicap section. Then proceeded to worry that we’d get “escorted out of the park” for breaking !
Mickey prevailed and we escaped jail time. Thank goodness because, I don’t think Bill (Lizardcop) would’ve been available to bail me out!
Joey suggested we start exiting before the finale, as he was itching to get on RNRC. Heidi and I held our ground and watched until the end. So what if we have to wait an extra 15 minutes to exit, I got to see fireworks!
Heidi was going to sit RNRC out, so I gave her our park passes to see if TOT was issuing FPs. I could’ve sworn seeing them uncovered as we headed into RNRC. The wait for RNRC was 60 minutes! I think the last time I waited 60 minutes for an attraction was in 1995 when I was still wet behind the ears, as a WDW tourist! But the kids wanted to do it, so in we went.
Dusty entertained us, as we meandered through the queue, by scoping out guys and making it obvious who she thought was . This girl is not shy!
There was a man in front of us, who had to be THE tallest man I’ve ever encountered. I’m 5’2 and my ex is 6’0, but this man looked like I could’ve been standing on top of myself and still not be at eye level with him. Dusty, asks his height and he claims to be only 6’9. Yes, I know that’s tall, but he looked at least 7’5. I felt like Mike T.V after getting zapped by that Wonkavision thing; this man could’ve easily picked me up by my shirt and had me dangling a few feet in the air.
Between the jolly giant and us, was a woman who’d actually pulled an “Angie”-stemming from my many solo touring days- as we had entered the line. Since she was solo she had done a quick swerve around us to get in front of us in the queue.
No one else noticed.
She did it well.
I let it slide.
We got to talking to April, I believe that was her name, and at one point Dusty, who doesn’t look her age, asked her how old she thought she was. Dusty loves hearing that that she looks older than her age. Just wait, my pretty, that won’t be the case later on in life! April answered 19 or 20, much to Dusty’s delight. She then proceeded to try to guess all our ages. She guessed that Joey was 16, Stormy 15 and drumroll please, Me…….18!!! She said I looked younger than Dusty! She was really dumbfounded when I said that Joey was my son, she thought he was my boyfriend! April, you’ve just won the MVP , for giving this team (well, ok, me) a boost all on your own!
After riding on the freeways of LA, we take off to look for Heidi. She was sitting on one of the benches, on the right, as you exit the attraction. I asked about the Fastpasses for TOT and she said they weren’t available? Oh, well.
She again decided to sit this ride out, choosing to shop down Sunset instead. The wait was maybe 10 minutes, the first time. After that, it was a walk on, so we rode 2 more times! Joey sat the 3rd one out; he really doesn’t enjoy freefall rides as much as I do. If not for the fact that it was now 12:59am and TOT had its gates closed and padlocked (I should’ve, taken a picture) the girls and I would’ve kept on riding!
We reunited with Joey and Heidi, and headed home for the night. MGM seemed so desolate, at this hour, with almost all its shops closed and dark.
We departed, with plans to sleep in the next day. The Havens would be switching to SSR and with Troy not feeling well; we planned to take it easy and meet in the early afternoon for our first experience at DisneyQuest!
no pics in this installment. I don't no why, but I didn't take any that night.
Up next- Day 3, part 1- If You Build it, They will Ride…
