As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Day 3, Part 1: Our Breakfast @ Storyteller’s and Heading into DCA!!!
The wake-up calls at DL are nothing like WDW. Just some theme music. No Mickey wishing me a good morning with Stitch yelling “No Sleeping”. I rolled over and told Chuck to go jump in the shower. He actually did on the first nudge, which gave me at least 10 more minutes under the covers. Once Chuck was out the shower, I got up and got ready to go. It was a cool morning so I was glad I brought the l wore the lightweight sweater. After double checking the park bag, we headed out the door. We took a leisurely walk through DTD and to the Grand Californian. I so love this hotel. DLH has its history and Disney touches, but I really this hotel. We had some time before we could check in so we spent some time in the gift shop. After bypassing the shopping bug, we headed over to Storyteller’s Café for breakfast. After we got checked-in, I took some pictures of the lobby. I love the carryover of the design of the hotel into the restaurant.
Our name was called, and we were led to a nice table for two. Our server’s helper came and offered us some OJ and asked if we wanted anything else to drink. Chuck went with coffee, and I chose a coke for my caffeine intake. As we were waiting on our server, Kenai arrived to visit our table. I was immediately told in bear speak that he couldn’t sign because of his claws. We “talked” about his totem and how good of a big brother he is to Koda. Pictures were then taken.
Our server (can’t remember his name) came introduced himself, apologized for the wait, and took our orders. Chuck went with the buffet and I just went for the Mickey waffle with bacon and berries. Chuck headed to the buffet with instructions to grab me a croissant as I love croissants. He returned with a plate full of goodies and my croissant. I munched away on that while waiting on my waffle. It arrived about 5 minutes later.
Chuck could find no wrong in the buffet selections and made one repeat trip to gather more goodies. My waffle was as good as any waffle can be. My bacon was nice and crisp but not burnt. The berries, oh my gosh, the berries were wonderful!!!! Probably my favorite part of the meal. Very good. While we were enjoying our food, Koda arrived for some attention. He too told me he couldn’t sign but we talked about the salmon run and how he bugs Kenai by his singing.
Chip followed in short order and took his time signing my book. I had a page full of drawings, arrows to his picture and his signature. Our server came by and got a picture of the both of us with Chip.
We finished up our meal and got refills on our beverages. We were still waiting on Dale, Meeko, and Terk to come visit us. I told Chuck we wouldn’t wait forever but I definitely wanted to see Terk and Meeko as those two characters weren’t out and about in the DL parks. About 5 minutes after that comment Terk arrived. She kept commenting on Chuck’s hair standing up like hers. She gave me a huge hug and signed my book. Our server arrived with our refills and offered to take a group photo of the three of us.
We waited around for another 10 minutes but Dale and Meeko never appeared. We settled out bill during that time and received our buttons. I do have to give kudos to the woman who was playing the Ranger in the restaurant. She had come by asking what characters we hadn’t seen while we were enjoying our refills. We told her and she went to check the status. As we were walking out, she offered to take by autograph book and get Dale’s and Meeko’s signature while they were on break. I thanked her but told her that it was okay but the fact that she offered meant a lot.
We headed straight for the entrance there at GCH and headed straight for Soarin’. We grabbed a FP as while we were making a game plan, the wait time for stand-by went from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. After grabbing those, we headed over to the Hollywood Studios area. Along the way we got some scenery pictures and a Photopass woman offered to take a picture of the two of us with our camera.
As we were headed toward TOT, we ran across Pluto standing all by himself. Well, I couldn’t let that happen to the pooch, so I went and spent some time with him.
Goofy came out and a mob suddenly appeared out of nowhere. There was no attendant/ handler/friend of Goofy so there was just a mass of people surrounding him with no order. We bypassed saying hi but just couldn’t help but ogle at the chaos Goofy caused. TOT was showing a 15 minute wait so we walked right into the stand-by line. After our visit to the Hollywood hotel, we grabbed a FP for another ride and headed to Monster’s Inc.

Your breakfast looked delish....I too would have been thrilled with a waffle, crispy bacon, and berries! Were the parks as quiet as they looked in your pics? If so, must have been wonderful!

Breakfast looked absolutely yummy!!! I don't understand why they don't form lines for the characters at Disneyland like they do at WDW, and why they have no handlers. I would think they would need them for their own protection!
