The Disneyland, San Diego, and Vegas, oh my! Trip Report - COMPLETED!! 2/18/11 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry for the delay. I'm going to break this day up into parts, since I have so many pictures.............
Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 – More crowds, California Adventure, and would World of Color live up to the hype?
I believe we were up by 7 this morning, and out the door just after 7:40. By the time we got to the gates, there were lines of people waiting to get into DL (it wasn’t quite 8 yet).
We decided to let the crowds die down a bit, and went to get breakfast at La Brea Bakery. It was quite good, except for the pesky birds around the tables outside. It came to about $32.
Tummies full, we walked thru the turnstiles. The park had been open for Magic Morning hour this morning (at 7 AM) so the lines were already quite substantial at just past 8! I got stopped to do a survey as we entered. When she found out this was our first trip to DL, she gave the kids stickers, and told me to get 1st visit buttons at City Hall. Problem was, the line was always out the door whenever we passed City Hall! We took our time walking down Main Street.
We were going to focus on doing things that they didn’t have at WDW this morning. First up was Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. I’ve ridden this at WDW before they took it out, but the kids (or Matt) never did.
Next up was the Storybook Land Canal Boats.
Then we headed for ToonTown and did Roger Rabbit. I thought it was a bit rough, and just ok. The kids enjoyed it though. There was no one standing around Goofy when we came out, and he looked so lonely, so I sent the kids over.
The kids probably went on Gadget’s Go Coaster by themselves, about 3 or 4 times, before the line got really long. We headed out about 9:30, and tried to catch the train, but we just missed one, so we walked back to the front of the park.
We headed over to California Adventure, since it was just about 10 at this point. I'll continue that part in another post (hopefully tonight).
We headed over to California Adventure, since it was just about 10 at this point.
We rode Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue first. Cute ride, and as you can see from the pictures, there was no one around in this area of the park. Next up we walked around the Backlot, and then headed to A Bug’s Land.
We had our own private screening of It’s Tough to Be a Bug! (there were about 6 other people in there with us ). Not sure how we got the kids into this one, as they’ve never done it at WDW (too scary)!
We headed to Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train next, which was cute (probably cuter if the kids were smaller)!
Then we headed for Tuck and Roll’s Drive ‘em Buggies. There’s nothing better than bumper cars!
The kids went on Francis' Ladybug Boogie and Flik's Flyers by themselves, which was nice!
We headed out toward the Wharf area, had a snack at the Farmer’s Market, and then took a tour of both the Mission Tortilla Factory, and Boudin Bakery.
We walked over to Paradise Pier.
We got FPs for California Screamin’ (even though Colin said he wouldn’t ride) and the headed for TSMM, where the wait was at least 45 minutes, if not an hour.
Matt beat me (the kids rode together on the other side). The only thing disappointing about TSMM (other than the wait) was the queue is nothing and quite boring, compared to the wonderful (and inside) queue they have at WDW. I’d have to give the nod to WDW for the queue alone! Matt and Alexa went to ride California Screamin’ (Colin did not want to ride). I think Colin and I split up from Matt and Alexa at this point. He wanted to ride the Silly Symphony Swings, but it was down. I think we got in line for Mulholland Madness, but that ended up being 35+ minutes and he didn’t want to wait. Then we went over to Jumpin’ Jellyfish, but that also was close to 35+ minutes. Matt called and said they were done, so we just left the queue and went to meet them for lunch at Pacific Wharf. I had originally gotten in line for the Pacific Wharf Café, but that line was quite long and it was easily going to be 20+ minutes, so I just went over to Lucky Fortune Cookery.
After eating, we headed toward the front of the park for our afternoon break. We stopped at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail area where the kids had a blast playing on all the stuff.
We continued out of the park, stopping at Soarin’ to get FastPasses for later tonight when we return.
I’ll have to finish up this day on another update! Time to get the kids to bed!
WDW - August 1997 Off Property
WDW - January 2005 AKL
WDW - May 2006 Pop Century
WDW- november-dec 2007 pop century
WDW- dec/jan 2009/2010 pop century
WDW- oct/nov 2012 art of animation
WDW- sept 2013 port Orleans riverside
WDW- july 2015 beach club
Toon town is fun there. I will miss it when its gone from WDW. I was not crazy about RR.. but I think that the kids did like it too. I like being able to get around DL on the train. It seemed much easier at DL for some reason. At CA... I love the giant letters outside the Park. I had heard that they might get rid of them during the makeover. I hope not.

What a great, and FULL day! The last time I was at Disneyland it was before California Adventure, so I really enjoyed all the pix. I didn't realize there were so many kids' rides there.
Finally caught up, Marnie! Every time I would start to read, I'd get interrupted. I'm glad you're having fun at DL! And Alexa asking where the castle was cracked me up! It looks like you're getting a lot accomplished as usual. Hurry back with more, please!

Mickey's so happy to see me back, he can barely contain himself!
Roger Rabbit and TSM will be closed when we are there. I don't mind missing Roger Rabbit, but my daughter really wanted to have my parents ride TSM with her. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will open a day early.
