Leaving the drama behind and sailing into calm seas and blue skies…Celebrating on the Magic! completed 4/3/2015 - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow, I know theft happens even at Disney, but it's still such a shock to hear about! Love the photos of your meals! Looking even more forward to our cruise in May!
Your photos in Jamaica we also gorgeous! Loved seeing the art work on the side of the building!
Thanks!

That's so sad to hear about the theft. Falmouth looks like a lovely place and it's so funny to see some of the items from the Pirates menu that we had just a couple of nights ago!
What a different excursion, seeing the city from a horse drawn wagon. What Great pirates you two made! I hope to see Captain Jack on our cruise as both my boys have Jack costumes for pirate night.
Wow, shocking to hear about the theft.
We went to Jamaica on our honeymoon, and actually had a difficult time seeing such incredible poverty someplace so close to home, and to go back to our opulent resort each day....my bleeding heart (I am a social worker, after all) doesn't like that disparity. I wished we could have had a few less amenities, with the saved money going to support the surrounding community....
Your Pirate Night dessert is also my go to on that menu. Love it!
Coconut rum creme?! That sounds fantastic!
Sad but true. They are very proud people and work hard. Coconut rum creme was fantastic...note...was.

Your lunch at Lumiere's looked really good. After two DCL cruises, I've still never eaten lunch in one of the main dining rooms. Must rectify that next time. You look amazing on Pirate Night! Glad you got your picture with Pirate Mickey.

We've always gone to Cabanas or some other quick food for a bite. The sit down restaurants offer so much more. We try to hit them a couple of times if we can. So happy to finally get our pic with Mickey. Maybe Minnie next time or someone else.

The theft was a shock especially when it happens to someone in your cruise group. Sad.

I love the pirate menu but I think it's coming time for an update.

I've loved the horse drawn carriages since our ghost ride at St Augustine a few years back. Lucky that it wasn't a dreadful hot day but very enjoyable. Our guides were so knowledgeable it made it interesting. Captain Jack is available for meet and greets and photos on the ship as well as Castaway Cay. It's alway a great experience. Your boys will love it!
Well I'm happy to report that there has been no more drama in my house. Mom is doing well though her memory worries me a bit. Heather's wound has healed and after five weeks of shuffling papers in an office she is back on her regular shift and doing well. So well, that after only two days back the company gave her her hire papers. No more temp agency for my girl. She is now fully employed and with all the benefits that come with it. We are very proud of her. The snow is melting. I can actually see safely at the end of my driveway. Things are looking up!
On with this TR....
December 19th… A leisurely day at sea!
Our Palo brunch was at 10 am so there was no rush to get up especially after yesterday’s early morning. Dan and I slept in a little and just took our time getting ready for our brunch. By 9:45 we were dressed and headed out the door. We opted to walk through the hallway and took the elevator up two flights. I have to admit that finding Palo here on the Magic was much easier than the Dream and Fantasy. We arrived and checked in. The wait wasn't very long as I only managed to snap a couple of pictures before we were ushered inside.
Lovely Palo
3 Rose Centerpiece
We were seated in a nice table by the window but unlike the Fantasy and the Dream people were allowed outside to dine most likely from Cabanas. Kind of spoiled the view but whatever. Our server Jane introduced herself. We ordered Mimosa’s and Jane took us on the tour of the buffet. The smell was heavenly and I kind of knew what I wanted before I even arrived….Chicken Parm!!! Mimosa
Appetizers
Chicken Parm
Palo’s Champagne Brunch offerings
Not edible...but pretty!
Table Settings
Signature Plate
When we finished our meal and headed for dessert Jane offered to take a picture of us. She later returned with a little something for our 25th Anniversary.
Desserts Surprise from Jane
More pictures
Before we left I asked Jane to have a photo taken with her. It can be a little tricky but she did nail down someone who took the picture for us. We told Jane that we would be returning for dinner that same evening and hoped to see her. But I made a little of my own magic and asked before we left if we could have Jane as our server for dinner. I took a few more shots before we left very full and satisfied.
We returned to our stateroom where we changed clothes and just relaxed, resting our full bellies. At this point I decided to pull out our FE gifts and take a shot of all the goodies! Our loot
Believe it or not I had just noticed the rather large birthday magnet on the bathroom door. Lol! Happy Birthday Dan
After we were rested we made our way to Signals because I wanted the drink of the day. The Jingle Bell…Vodka, Peach Schnapps, Midori, Blue Curacao and OJ…this was so good!
I started taking some pictures when our server jumped into view. As I focused on him. Two of his buddies joined in. Made for a cool shot! Photo Bombed
We just wandered around, watching people and watching the sun glinting off the ocean. We did some window shopping but that was about it. Since we were in the area we stopped by O’Gills to check it out. They had some sort of trivia game in full swing but we were welcomed so we pulled up a seat at the bar. We ordered drinks and just sat and chatted for a while.
Photo ops along the way O’Gills
A Guinness Stout for Dan A Chilled Leprechaun for me…O’Gills Irish Cream Liquor, Kahlua Coffee Liquor, Ketel One Vodka and Vanilla Ice cream
Dan wasn’t a fan of the stout but I loved mine. So he ordered something different while I opted for another. Celtic Twilight…Jameson Irish whiskey, Pernod Anise, Noilly Pratt Vermouth, Angostura Bitters
Strike two for Dan and for me? There was a change in bartenders and he just didn’t make it the same. But the original was great!
The sun was beginning to set so we walked the ship from aft to forward. It was quiet most likely due to the ones having main dinner seating’s. Today was our last sea day. Tomorrow Castaway Cay and then homeward bound to probably a foot or more of snow. I just wasn't ready. Whoever is? Calm seas
Soon it was time to head back and get ready for our Palo Dinner. We had plenty of time but for me I just didn't know what to do with my hair. This is the longest it has been and formal night worked out but for some reason tonight things weren't cooperating. I finally ended with a similar style using sparkly barrettes to hold things in place. I had already made the decision of wearing my new Eggplant Infinity dress tonight so it was just a matter of wrapping myself into it with a little help from Dan to make sure that everything that was supposed to be covered was. Lol!
Dan wore his suit with an almost matching shirt and tie. I think we made a charming couple and we were ready for our first ever Palo dinner.
We arrived right on time and happy to see that Jane was waiting for us. She loved our attire and already knew that we had not dined here before. She was full of suggestions which I appreciated greatly. I felt like a wonderful evening had already begun. Freshly Baked Bread Signature Palo Cocktail…Absolut Pears Vodka, Limoncello, Alexander Grappa, Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice and Agave Nectar…Heavenly, a new favorite Chambord Mojito Martini…Bacardi Limon rum, Chambord, Fresh Muddled Lime and Mint Leaves…also really good Palo’s Cold Antipasti Specialties presented from our Antipasti Carrello…Prosciutto, Bresaola, Parmesan Reggiano, Marinated Olives and Sun-Dried Tomatoes served with selection of Infused Oils and Aged Balsamic Vinegar Fritto di Calamari…Lightly-crusted Calamari served with Deep-friend Cherry Peppers Lobster and Mascarpone Ravioli with a light Burro Bianco Palate Cleanser…a light lemon sorbet Wild Mushroom Risotto with freshly-shaved Parmesan and a Chianti Reduction Osso Buco…Slow roasted center cut Veal Shank with Gremolata and Risotto Milanese Beef Tenderloin “Palo” topped with melted Gorgonzola Cheese or Palo signature Barolo Red Wine Sauce
And what else for dessert than..... Chocolate Soufflé with Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Sauce
I can't even tell you how long I have waited for this. It did not disappoint. A little after dinner Limoncello slush
Yep…nothing is sacred Palo Bathroom
Before we left we told Jane that we would be returning the following year and hoped to see her again. We ended our evening by asking for another photo taken with her and she was more than happy to oblige. We said our goodbyes but before leaving stopped by the host/hostess desk and told the head CM how wonderful our evening was and what a gem Jane was. He agreed with us saying she has been with them for several years and is one of his best. He also said that he believed she would be onboard during our next cruise. I can only hope.
After a few more photos we headed down to the Atrium where I was hoping to get out picture taken in front of the Christmas tree. This line was always long. Longer than to see Mickey if that were possible. When we arrived there was a note saying be back in 20 minutes so Dan stood in line while I took a few more shots of a nearly empty atrium. After around 5 minutes or so another couple joined us and we struck up a nice conversation. By coincidence they also were from Massachusetts though on the western side of the state. I noticed that the woman was holding a Nikon camera in her hands so I suggested we take each other’s photos while waiting and that was what we did. Oddly enough this was this first time I had ever used a Nikon and her my Canon. The photos came out pretty nice. Soon the photographer arrived and we were first in line to get out picture taken. Canon shot
Shutters shot
We also had our pictures taken in front of the big screen of the Magic but none of them came out very well. So I saved a few bucks. Lol! We took our time strolling back to our stateroom where we were greeted by this little frog. It was still of early. Only 9:45 but after our long day at sea and Palo times two we were ready to get some sleep.
Next… Castaway Cay and our last full day on the Magic!

Wow, that is a special day, having both brunch and dinner in Palo on the same day. I've never thought of doing that before, but maybe I need to consider that for a future cruise...
That was a lot of food in one day! It all looks great, though. The array at brunch seems to be even more extensive than the last time I went. Your wrap dress looked wonderful.

What a great day with two meals at Palo! All of the drinks you had throughout the day sounded so yummy! The eggplant dress is gorgeous! You both looked great for both meals.
Oh my, what a wonderful update....now I'm hungry and lunch isn't for about an hour and it's not going to be near that good! :
Guess that's what I get for reading updates at work!
Thanks for sharing! Maybe Jane will be on board when we sail IN TWO MONTHS! We will be sure to look for her!
Oh how I loved this update! Less than 4 months now for my Palo brunch (and sad realizing we disembark 4 months from today ).
How much could you taste the grappa in that cocktail? It sounded delicious, aside for the grappa that I am just not fond of.
That dress of yours was spectacular!!!
and glad to hear the drama at home has toned down!

Glad things are returning to normal at home!
What a lovely Palo filled day! I'm debating on whether or not to dinner on our upcoming cruise, but it sure looks delicious! Brunch is a must though! I love your dress! How did you figure out how to wrap it? I have one and have no idea where to begin.
What a magical day of Palo! Everything looked just wonderful and I love your dress!!
Thank you. We had such a wonderful Palo day. May even do it again real soon.

We loved it. We rested in between, snacked a little and had some drinks. Palo day is definitely on my list for next time.

There is so much to choose from for brunch. I have to just be satisfied with taking pictures of everything. Can you imagine trying to sample it all?

Jane is a wonderful server. You'll be lucky to have her.

It was nice to have a drama free report this time. Lol! Brunch is a must for us too. If you Google for "convertible dress tutorial", you will find lots of great ideas and videos. That's what I did, then wrapped until I found the looks that I liked most. I'll have two more different styles on our upcoming trip in September. Can't wait!
