Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: DopeyGirl Goes to Disneyland!!! --- DAY 1 updated 7/20!!!
Just got found your Pre-trip and Trip report. I am so enjoying your vacay so far. I have never been to Disneyland and love to read all the details from everyone who goes. Sorry you have such a grouchy FIL. Glad to hear your DMIL was on your side, usually it isn't like that. Your pictures are great. Can't wait to read more.

Re: DopeyGirl Goes to Disneyland!!! --- DAY 2 updated 8/1!!!
DAY 2 – June 23, 2005 -- Animals & Memories
<font color="blue">We got up around 7:30am and headed downstairs to the “breakfast area” at the Holiday Inn Express. While it was a nice selection of quick breakfast items (fresh fruits, bread and bagels to toast, fresh hot cinnamon rolls and fresh donuts . . . 3 or 4 types of juice, reduced fat and skim milks, and water . . . ) the “area” it was all in was SO tiny!!! There were SO many people stuffed down there!!! My family and I have stayed at this HI Express every time we’ve gone to San Diego since we moved away from there in the late 80’s . . . the breakfast area has ALWAYS been small, but NEVER this crowded!!! We did eventually manage to get through the crowds (notice I didn’t say “lines” . . . ) and we got something to eat.
After we’d finished, we headed straight out to the car and drove off towards the World Famous San Diego Zoo!!!
We opted to skip the $32 “Deluxe” package, which included zoo admission, Skyfari ride roundtrip tickets and tour bus tickets), instead going with the general admission ticket which was $21 for adults and $14 for Emilie.
This may sound funny, but, as many times during my life that I have been to the San Diego Zoo, I have never EVER turned left inside the turnstiles to tour the zoo!!! This time was no exception . . . we turned right once we got past the turnstiles and started on our way!!! I spotted this guy on top of a booth for bus tour tickets and couldn’t resist getting a photo . . . he was just too handsome to pass him up . . .
Our next stop was the area housing the koalas, tree kangaroos and wallabies. There were a couple of koalas out and both were eating eucalyptus. This one, however, would be wide awake for about 10 seconds and eating away at his leaves then the very next moment, he was conked out!!! It was too funny!!!
Since pretty much all we did was walk (up and down BIG hills all day in the gorgeous 75 degree weather) and enjoy the sights, the next bit will be more pictures than stories!!! </font>
“Timon” on sentry duty . . . this little meerkat sat atop his hill and barked for about 15 minutes straight.
The first photo is of an African Elephant . . . the second is of the same African Elephant joined by his Asian Elephant friend!
RHINO! An Indian Rhinoceros, to be exact.
Is it just me, or do these two meerkats look like 2 old, fat guys sitting there?
This is one of the younger giraffes at the zoo . . . and look how tall it is!!! We also saw their “baby” and he was 9 foot tall!!!
Do YOU know the difference between male and female zebra? That’s right . . . males have black and white stripes, while the females have white and black stripes!
Crikey! Someone managed to get a photo of the elusive Sarahsaurus Rex!!!
If only she were ALWAYS this sweet looking!!!
The “Skyfari” ride I mentioned before. The reason we opted to forgo riding? Mom won’t set FOOT on the thing!!! She once, when we were younger, let us all get on at the back of the zoo with dad and ride to the front, while she WALKED to meet us there!!!

<font color="red">CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS POST!!!</font>
<font color="blue">Around mid-day, we finally made it back to the Giant Panda Research Station. Mei Sheng, the “baby” (22 months old) was out playing and he was just TOO fun to watch!!! He was trying to climb a tree . . . at one point, he was hanging from the branch for dear life, then he fell flat on his back. He laid there looking dazed for a few seconds, then stood up, stomped his foot and grunted . . . then headed back up the tree to try again. I told my mother that it was EXACTLY what I would have done!!! </font>
Emilie thought it would be fun to ride a polar bear . . . I told her ONLY if it were made of metal and didn’t go anywhere!!!
Same thing with the hippos!!!
<font color="red">WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!</font>
If you are not a fan of snakes, I suggest you scroll right on past the next 2 photos!!!
Rattlesnake!!! Ew.
Albino Burmese Python!!! Double ew.
<font color="blue">After grossing ourselves out looking at the reptiles, we headed over to a cart where my dad got some kettle corn, I got a churro and we all got drinks, then we hit the gift shop (well, DUH!) and headed out the gate. Crowds were getting pretty thick and Emilie was wearing out fast. I got us a few good souvies and STILL managed to keep my total under $50, so I was pretty happy!!!
We had missed out on getting the obligatory “family” shot by the sign at the entrance when we first got there that morning (school field trip groups all around it), so we made a point of stopping and getting pics on our way out to the parking lot.</font>
Emilie and I . . .
My mom and dad (or to Emilie . . . her Grammie and Poppa! )

Re: DopeyGirl Goes to Disneyland!!! --- DAY 2 updated 8/1!!!
<font color="red">CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS POST!!!</font>
<font color="blue">As we headed out of the zoo’s parking lot, we decided we would do a little sightseeing around San Diego (since this was our only FULL day in town). I took photos the whole way as we drove around . . . but only am posting a few here! </font>
Naval Hospital San Diego (the old building) . . . where I was born!!! (as well as both of my sisters!)
See . . . told you Emilie was wearing out!!!
The elementary school I went to . . . and the house I grew up in!!!
A mural on a wall in the Barrio Logan area of San Diego
The San Diego Trolley!!!
The USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum with the memorial to the USS San Diego (WWII ship) in the forefront.
Star of India . . . the world’s oldest active ship (built and commissioned in 1863), she has been ported in San Diego since 1926, was restored in 1976 and is now the main part of the San Diego Maritime Museum.
<font color="blue">We started getting a little hungry, so we headed towards the hotel . . . dad really wanted to eat dinner at Souplantation and it was right across from our hotel (some of you may have Souplantations in your area . . . others may have “Sweet Tomatoes” . . . they’re the same company. Soup, salad and pasta bar . . . and lots more . . . very tasty!!! ) Once we had filled ourselves up with all kind of goodies, we went back to our room and pretty much crashed out. We were able to see the fireworks from Sea World once more, and the three of us girls (mom, Emilie and I) fell asleep right about 11pm, while dad stayed up and watched the news.
I am surprised I was able to sleep at all with the surprises we had for Emilie the next day looming!!! </font>
COMING UP NEXT: More San Diego sights
