As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Sounds like you're flight got off well! Nice that you had a Baileys and a Mimosa. I like both, but Bailey's usually only in the colder months and Mimosa's always for myself and my family definitely on Christmas Eve...along with the wine!
So, cool that the cockpit was open and so sad with the way things are now since 9/11 that it's rarely open at all, once any passenger begins to board. It reminds me of a story, a friend at work once told me....
Perhaps, 20 years ago he and his wife were taking a flight with a couple of friends. Someone back home was associated with the particular airline, so they got to visit the cockpit and board before everyone. A woman (the other couple) said to one of the pilots, "it was her first time flying" and the pilot said, "it's mine too." I heard, she turned white as a ghost. It was an older couple, so hence the reaction perhaps! Thought, that was pretty funny!
Too bad with passengers from Economy coming upstairs to use your facilities. Kind of annoying and hopefully not too many were doing this. They could at least wait a bit and use their own downstairs!

Wednesday 30 October – part three: is that Ireland?
Soon we were taking off…
Those could be cows … and those definitely are! Trust me, I can find cows anywhere… A windmill…
We stayed below the clouds for longer than I thought we would, which was a pleasant change, and even once we got into them, we still got glimpses of what was beneath them….
I have no idea where this is, although I couldn’t help but wonder if it was Ireland, as I knew we were heading out that way.
I thought I’d show you how much legroom we had…
And I realised that I don’t think I’ve ever taken a photo of the TV screens we get, so I thought I’d put that right…
When we got the menus, I couldn’t believe what was on there. Again, this won’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s read these trip reports before, but guess what was on the menu? You got it – curry! Why they insist on serving curry, I do not know, but I didn’t want that, especially as it was a Thai green vegetable curry, but that was the only vegetarian option, as they only had beef and chicken as the other options. I had a word with the stewardess and, how ironic is this, they got me the vegetable pasta from Economy, which was much more to my taste (a plus one to Virgin here). Because I’d ordered a vegetarian meal, I also got a salad, although my goodness, the dressing on that had a kick to it as well. What is it with Virgin spicing things up?
You’ll notice from the photo below that the final item looks fruity. Now it’s my own fault, as I must mention my tree fruit allergy in the future, because when Mark tried it, it was an apple and cinnamon dish. Ok, that would not have been good…
Now look at his…. The appetiser was smoked salmon roulade, followed by chicken in garlic and mushroom sauce with roasted potatoes and broccoli, and the dessert was chequered chocolate mousse.
Now I wanted that chocolate mousse, and I was pretty upset when mine turned up without it. We had a word with the stewardess, and she said she’d try and find a spare one for me. When she didn’t, Mark gave me his, although I gave him a couple of bites. Wouldn’t you know it, just after we finished polishing that off, another one turned up (another plus one to Virgin, so they’re up two at the moment… ), we shared that between us as well. Boy, were we well fed, as Mark also got a key lime pie!
While we were having lunch, I watched White House Down, and I have to say that I was expecting it to be Ok, but my goodness, what a great movie, and better than the usual action ones you get. They actually developed the characters, and the whole thing came together really well. It also had some wonderful one-liners in it – just my kind of thing.
After that, I tried to have a nap, given the poor night’s sleep we’d had (this will so catch up on us later on ) while listening to the most recent couple of PassPorter Moms podcasts.
We then had some water or orange juice brought round, followed by ice lollies. I have to say that Virgin were doing very well in looking after us on this flight.
It had also been an amazingly smooth flight. Honestly, at times, it didn’t feel as if we were in the air. Considering when we took off, we were told that our route would take us up to Iceland and Greenland to avoid turbulence I thought we’d be in for a very rough time, but that wasn’t the case at all, which was a huge relief.

Its great Virgin got everything you wanted although that is quite a bit of negotiating just to eat lunch.
And I do have complete trust in your cow-spotting abilities, yes!

What a nice, clear day for flying... a birds-eye view of cows! I don't understand the over-spiciness of the food you've encountered, especially when it's your only option! Glad they came through and found you more than enough to eat in the end.
