3rd Times a Charm! Cali here we come! My first ever Disneyland trip and PTR! - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

If the two of you pretend like the "free" $600 isn't even yours, and you put it straight into vacay fund, you could totally swing a Disney trip for $1200! Preferrably at FQ from August 11-15, Ahem Hope all is well and you're back with some good news soon . . . . . .
don't worry about money inssues mel
Juan lost his job once and I was supporting us both for a little while so I know how it is - it can be very stressful on a relationship but you are a strong couple and you will come through
congrats on the tax refund
I have been coughing on and off for 3 weeks so I hear you on that end too but feel better soon and hurry back I can't wait to read what else you have in store

I think that is what we are going to do- just pretend the $600 each is only good for a WDW vacation! lol!

You know what is so funny... I thought there was no way I would be stressed- I waste SO much money on stupid things like $7 dog treats that Liam destroys in 5 minutes, clothes I don't end up wearing, craft and scrapbook projects I have no intention of doing... and on and on... but when push came to shove I have really been able to budget my money and its very empowering to realize you CAN survive on your own. Hopefully I will be back to report some good and excited news soon! Heres hoping!
We can no longer affor a trip to Disneyland this year
We can no longer afford a Disney Cruise this year
We would've been SOL if we had booked either the original April or May trip I had wanted because of Rob's situation.
So where does that leave us?
As you have probably suspected with a roughly $1200 budget for a vacation sometime aroung August. Why $1200? Because job or not Rob and I are each getting the extra bucks from taxes in May/June like the rest of the country.
We are looking at two possible scenarios...
(1) Flying into Fort Lauderdale on a Friday and visiting my Grandma, Aunts, Uncle, Cousins for the weekend, getting a rental out of the airport and driving to WDW on Sunday. One of my cousins is getting married in either August or September, if its August we will work this out around her wedding. We would go to Disney and stay through Thursday morning which would give us 3 full days and 2 half days.
(2) If I can't go to my cousins wedding because they chose September we are thinking about pushing the vacation back to Thanksgiving. Flying in Tuesday of that week after I get out of work, driving back and forth to Coral Springs to spend Thanksgiving with my family there. We would have 3 full days, an evening and a half day.
Not sure which one BUT I think its about time to start a new PTR. What do you think?

Thanks for the well wishes. I am not really bummed about missing the bigger Disney vacays anymore. Having the money to go the WDW itself under these circumstances is pretty awesome. I will def keep you guys up to date. Once I have the time and energy to restart I will start a new PTR (AGAIN!!?!?) over in the WDW forum so that I can try and get a few more opinions from over there!
Sorry things did not work out as you wanted them too...but I am glad that you are still upbeat by getting a couple of days in there in August or Thanksgiving...
I am sending more pixies that the job prospects open up and that before we knoe it you will be planning either a DL or a cruise trip for the upcoming future....
If you can keep your spirits up, things have a way of working out... sometimes for the better! It happened to us last year when I lost so much time off work for medical reasons and we had to put off a cruise till this year. Instead of a big vacation, we spent a week with my BIL's family at Christmas. We had a fantastic time and I got to know them a lot better. We ended up spending a few hundred dollars instead of a few thousand dollars, and still had a wonderful time.
Keep your spirits up, Mel, and who knows... it's the "Year of a Million Dreams"... isn't it???
to hear things didn't work out, Mel, but I can't wait to hear what you cook up next!

I am trying my best, and have really decided that one way or another I am going to make the Thanksgiving trip happen. Whether that means I go solo and relax on my own, get to have my favorite person (Rob) with me, or end up inviting a girlfriend along. I am actually arguing with Rob right now because he is having a tough time finding work. But at the end of the day, we both let the positive attitudes win out and its been alright. Plus my horoscope said to support the one you love and something good will happen around the 28th. Maybe, just maybe, there is some truth to those and if I can try and stay positive for Rob over the next few days there will be a good turn.
