As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Looby & family take on Disneyland! ~pre-trip
Thanks, Kelley. I actually bought them at the Disney Store in Milwaukee during our 7 hour layover on our way to DL. They were like $7/each. I love the way they exactly matched the Mad Hatter's coat

Re: Looby & family take on Disneyland! ~pre-trip
Thanks so much for the update! The pictures are (once again!) wonderful and it sounds like you all had a great day there! The Tuscan chicken at RFC sounds good, too. That's not one of my fave restaurants either, but I may have to give it a try just to try the chicken! Looking forward to more of your report (especially the Krispy Kreme part--I must be really hungry right now! )!

Re: Looby & family take on Disneyland! ~pre-trip
Day 3 part 2:
After our filling lunch at the Rainforest Cafe, we decided to explore DTD. With our package, we got $10/per person of game tokens at the ESPN game club, which was right across from RC. We left the stroller and went over to ESPN. We ended up with $40 on 4 different cards. The boys went nuts, playing motorcycle games, bicycle games, shooting basketballs, etc. There was even a bowling game. We were in there about 45 minutes before they used up all the points. We were getting ready to leave when I notice Kylor doesn't have the backpack on anymore!! I asked him if he knew where it was - nope! Did he bring it in the game area? He thinks so!! Ack. I check at the desk to see if anyone had turned it in and he said no, but to check downstairs at the store as that's where the lost and found is. We leave Gma and Jalen to search and head down to the store. Nothing. OK, back upstairs. I just walked around looking in between every game, scoping every inch of the place. I had almost given up when I spotted in on the floor between 2 games. Whew! Kylor felt so bad, but heh, accidents happen. It was a sit down game and I suppose the backpack didn't feel good while he was sitting, so off it came. Well, we have it back, everything's still there, life is good But hot!!
We walked across the way to Compass Books where I knew they sold KK donuts in their cafe. I grabbed 6 and headed on over to the Lego store - where the boys had been begging to go for a while now. I let them play for a while, then Kylor bought a Bionicle and I bought Jalen a pirate eye patch. He loved it and wore it the rest of the day. Jalen dressing up in the Lego store:
I had some coupons I had gotten w/our package, so on the walk back down through DTD, I stopped into Wetzel's Pretzels and used my coupon for buy 2 get 1 free. I ended up with an almond crunch, a cinnamon iced and a pepperoni twist. Then I had to duck into Jamba Juice just to check out the menu and see what all the buzz is about this place. Really nothing that appealed to me there, so we keep walking and decided to go back to the hotel as we are all deathly hot. We catch the shuttle at 3:45. I took another quick nap in the room, it was too hot to do anything else. When I woke up, we all went to the pool. I was so tired and not feeling well, so I just sat under the umbrella by the pool and watched the kids.
After a little bit, I left my mom there and went back to the air conditioned room. I turned on the news and that's when I saw it had been 102 degrees that day. OK, no wonder why we were so darn hot!!!!! My mom came back from the pool with the boys and said it was starting to cool down. I went outside and it was probably only 90 or so Sad when that is cooler! I was feeling better, but now my mom was not. I decided to take just Kylor back to DL for the evening while my mom and Jalen hung out.
So Kylor and I shuttled back to DL and decided no matter how long the line is we had to go on Indy. It was only posted 15, so we entered the amazingly long queue. This is the first time we've ever had to wait for this ride. We have always just hopped right on. So this is also the first time we've ever seen the pre-show on the t.v. Not that it's very exciting, I just never knew that was something we had missed before. Great ride, as always. My back was hurting a little and this ride is jarring, but I just held on tight so as not to move so much.
After Indy, we beelined over to BTMRR. Just a short wait here and we were on. After that the parade was starting, so I thought maybe the line for Peter Pan would quiet down, but no such luck. We took a quick spin on Mr. Toad and decided to go back to the hotel. I quickly checked out our photo taken earlier in the day by the castle at Main Street Photo, but I didn't like it.
Back at the hotel, we watched American Idol. Gma and Jalen had eaten Subway for dinner. I had the Wetzel's pretzels, so Kylor and I shared the pepperoni twist, then I took him to the 7-11 to get a treat.
Another long day. We are asleep by 10.
Coming up: A Cinderella story, lunch at Ariel's Grotto and a ride on Tower of Terror ?!?

Great update. I've been watching the weather and hope it won't be as hot when we are there in July. So far it is actually cooler there that here.

*Tina*:
So glad you're posting again!
I cannot believe how hot it's been! We've had 90's which is unheard of for Seattle in June, and DL had 100's?
Wow!
I can only hope next year is cooler!

Re: Looby & family take on Disneyland! ~pre-trip
I've only just found your TR Tina and it's wonderful - I am getting so many ideas for our trip to Disneyland next year. I love your photos as well. I can't wait to hear about lunch at Ariel's Grotto now, as that's one place I want to go to.
Now I need to ask a couple of questions:
1) Was it really the first time you'd ever been on Pirates? Had you never gone on it before at DL or WDW?
2) Were the temperatures you experienced at that time of the year usual or exceptional? I'm curious, as I didn't think it got that hot over there in late April
3) How crowded was it while you were there? I was a bit shocked at the two hours waits you mentioned....
