The "I-can't-think-of-a-cool-catchy-title-for-this-PTR" PTR - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Love the dining choices Jiko's is on my list, missed it last year as Citrico's won out but definitely on the next trip list. Always enjoyed Rose & Crown and love the atmosphere. I have always wanted to go to Yak & Yeti but that is one of the places I have always worried about in regards to allergies. We love CMC - to this day Angel said that the chef there made the best allergy waffles in all of Disney.
Great dining choices! We ate at R&C in September and it was delish! Most of your other choices I have not experienced yet, but they are all on my wish list. So, I will be looking forward to hearing about your experiences.
And Yay for a PP meet! I wish I lived closer to more PPers, either that or I could visit Disney more often to have a better chance of meeting PPers.

Hey Dawn! Was so excited to find your PTR, since our trip is the same time!!! (We're arriving late 11/4 and leaving late 11/12.)
First, let me tell you that your boys are all adorable - from tot to teen! It must be so much fun to experience everything through so many eyes.
So happy you decided on your beloved BC. It is such a beautiful resort and remains on our wish list. Trouble is, every time we consider changing resorts we can't seem to part from our fav, AKL. That place just stole our hearts and has become our home away from home.
Awesome dining choices! We've been to most of your picks and they're all great... especially Jiko. What a treat!
Can't wait to see your touring plans. I'm hoping we can finally catch up this trip. I have a 15-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl... oops, almost 11-year-old girl. And one Disney lovin' DH who isn't too cool to enjoy every minute of magic!
The ADR's look great. I am not checking so I can find out in your report, so I hope FD was extended to your trip!
I wish I had a fellow PPer close to me to help me deal with all of my Disney craziness. I don't think there are too many Disneyaholics in Oklahoma, unfortunately.
Glad you got to meet with her and enjoy the nice fall day!
We had such a nice time on our meet. I've been lucky enough now to meet with 2 PPers outside of Disney. (Working on more )

The funny thing is, even though I'm not going back right now, I'm soooo excited for you and I love reading all of your plans. Okay.... Rose & Crown- we haven't tried this one yet, but after reading other TRs I know we would love it! I would love to watch Illuminations from there! Mama Melrose – never tried this one either. Anxious to read your review!! Cape May Café – we've only done dinner {which we }, but read nothing but awesome reviews about breakfast here!! And....so convenient staying at BC!! Liberty Tree Tavern - LTT!!! Will def go back again...great choice for party night at MK!!
50’s Prime Time Café - we've eaten here twice....great dining experience & the food is sooo good! I really love the pot roast-but the boys like the meatloaf too! Yak & Yeti - I had stolen your idea for getting an ADR at park closing!!! Maybe next trip.
The menu looks awesome!!! Breakfast at Ohana - we've only done dinner, but I'm sure breakfast is just as good!!! Dinner at Jiko...never tried it, but I'm looking forward to reading all about it! Of course, I expect PICTURES of everything!!!!!!!!!!! Please?????
PP meets are awesome!!!
I promise to be better about taking food pics. I think I only took about 3 last time. I would love to see Illuminations from R&C too, but this trip we'd have to stretch dinner out for about 3 hours and after a looooong travel day, I don't think we'll be up to it.

Craig and I just fell in love with Jiko on our race trip. And when I saw they had kid's pizza on the menu, I wanted to go back. Plus, I think the boys will really like checking out AKL. (Maybe for a future trip if I can get Craig away from the BC )

I've got a dining wish list a mile long! Guess more trips are in order. I am really looking forward to the fish and chips. And maybe an outside table.

We LOVED AKL when we stayed there. And are seriously considering taking a DVC tour while down there this trip. I'd love to be a member, and we just need to see if it will work for us.
I really hope we'll meet up this year, our families would get along great! I'll PM you my cell number and when I post my plans, let me know if you'll be where we are at any time.

How are we getting there you ask? (you did, right? ) Well, for about one split second we thought about driving down…and then dismissed that just as quickly. Although it wasn’t going to work for us this trip, I would actually like to drive down one time. (I’ll have to follow Jenn’s TR to see how it goes. ) But, this trip we decided to fly.
Now, the easiest airport for us to fly out of is Newark. But…several years ago some guy at some desk in some office somewhere working for Continental’s scheduling department sat back and said “Hmmm, there are an awful lot of people flying from EWR to MCO the first week in November…why is that?” Then some guy above that guy said… “Why don’t you find out.” And then Continental discovered “Jersey Week” and decided then that they would jack up the price to fly out of EWR to MCO that week so that you’d have to donate a kidney to fly a family of 5 to Disney. Well since then, we’ve flown out of NY airports and have been pretty lucky with fares. (knock on wood). We checked out fares on Delta out of JFK and they were reasonable. Then we decided to actually use the various miles we have that we’ve been saving for….well, I don’t know exactly WHAT we’ve been saving them for. So we booked the round trip flights for Craig and I and Jason and Tyler with miles! Now we had to figure the best thing for Zach. He’s meeting us down there on the 7th.
One night at dinner we told Zach he was going to have to fly by himself to meet us in Disney. Cue the vacant expression...(He is 16) And he said “Kids can’t fly by themselves” Me: “yes they can” Zach: “no they can’t” Me: “yes they can” . He was quite skeptical. (Okay, show of hands...who out there is the parent of a teenage boy who wears a semi-permanent mask of confusion...you all understand ) But, we assured him his grandfather would get him to the plane and then he’d just have to get off when it stopped. It’s not like a bus where he can get off on the wrong stop at least. Then we told him, just get off the plane, follow all the people, turn on your cell phone and call Dad. (thank goodness for cell phones) We’re renting a car and Craig will be at the airport to pick him up when he lands.
So, we booked one-way for Zach on miles and one way we paid for. All in all, the five of us are all flying round trip to Florida for $100!!
Oh...so much for the daily trivia keeping me honest, huh?
Here are the last 4 days (or so)
- There are no stones in Cinderella Castle. The whole thing is made of fiberglass.
- Walt Disney World is 30,500 acres. The same size as the city of San Francisco.
- You would have to wash and dry a load of laundry every day for 52 years to do the laundry from one day at Disney.
- More than 30 tons of fruits and veggies grown at the Land pavillion are served in Walt Disney World restaurants.

It really is so unfair that they jack up the prices so high out of Newark for that week, but flying out JFK isn't too bad. And $100 for all of you to fly It's so great you had all of those points to cash in!
OMG... those prices out of Newark make me crazy! We enjoyed normal fares for a year or two before Continental caught on. Then we left out of NY a few times, but DH really hates driving there. So now we usually fly out of Philly on SW. Last year, we got super lucky and I stumbled upon some decent Continental fares out of EWR - because I booked really early -- and snagged them.
What an adventure Zach has in store! We are lucky that our school district starting giving us the entire week off... or we'd have a similar situation. Alex could never miss several days of school. I'm sure Zach will do great, and maybe even find it kind of exciting. I used to fly to Florida by myself as a teenager - to visit the grandparents - and it was fun.
Hi Dawn, how funny we were in Ocean City before and after Irene too, we always go the last two weeks in August. Your dinning plans look great, we have only eaten at Cape May, LTT. Ohana and 50's, each time we go I try to pick a new place but its so cause my boys are picky eaters, so on the agenda for new places to try when we go in December is Mamma Melrose and Via Naploi.
