Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I am really upset that your server was so ignorant of food allergy issues and so unpleasant to boot! I am relieved that Izzy was ultimately kept safe (you and Paul continue to be such amazing advocates!) and I am glad your evening ended on a much happier note.

Looking forward to reading all about your magic morning!

Sorry you had such a poor server. It's a good thing you insisted on talking to the chef!

What a great room with a great view! I'm so sad to hear about the server experience at Napa Rose - not Disney at it's finest, that's for sure!

I'm so sorry to hear about the lousy (and dangerous) service at Napa Rose. You should definitely write to Disney!

The food looked delicious but I am so sorry that you had to go through such an ordeal just to get the proper information to keep Izzy safe. It really surprises me that for an allergy that is considered one of the major allergens that they had no options for her for dessert, I don't think it would be hard for these restaurants to at least have some Tofutti or Soy Delicious on hand as I am sure there are many guests that might not be able to eat dairy for a number of reasons.
Glad you all enjoyed the rest of the meal, but I am sure that the service definitely left a sour taste.

The Aladdin show sounded fantastic, a great way to end your first day, and what an amazing view of the fireworks.

Sorry that your first meal was not the best. That server needs to be retrained.

Thanks, Karen....I am trying to chalk it up to a good learning experience!

I echo you sentiments, Cheryl. I think the meal could have been a lot more pleasant if we had a different server.

I did in fact talk to the concierge CM the next day who was equally surprised. She called over to Napa Rose who did in fact confirm that the servers are appropriately trained. They then put the server on the phone with the concierge. As I was told, she didn't know what more she could do for us....she brought us gluten free rolls! Even then, she was still mixing up the dairy alergy. BTW, she never brought us the rolls, she had a couple other tables with allergies and mut be confused. Nope, we got the house bread with a big ole slab of butter!

I did write a letter recognizing both the issues we encountered as well as the star CMs we had the pleasure of meeting. I will be curious if I hear back.

I agree with you Meg....there is no consistent availability of soy based ice cream or frozen treats. In fact, I knew that the dessert/snack options would be pretty minimal for Isabelle before we went. I packed a case of Divvies cookies which she was able to munch on but mostly, we just skipped dessert!

I agree and do think the outcome would have been more positive with either anotherserver or one that recognized her ability to manage food allergies.

O.M.G I would have probably walked out and found something safe to eat if that happened. I'm so sorry that the service at napa rose was so awful. Izzy's health and safety were at stake and the staff should have realized that right away and not assumed that things were safe when they definitely were not!

Glad you enjoyed the Aladdin Show!! It's on our list of must do's when we finally make it to DL someday!

I can't wait to hear about more of your trip to DL!!

OMG! You had to be LIVID with that server!!!!!! What part of life threatening allergies could the server not understand? It miffs me to no end that you all had to go through that and I agree that there are some serious training issues at hand that need to be addressed!!!!! And then for the server to have the nerve to cop an attitude because they didn't know what they were doing?? I think I would have popped a cork.

Once again, beautiful food porn. I hope after the horrible service the food was a good as it looked. The rest of the evening sounds like it was a hit and I am glad you were all able to enjoy it after the ordeal at DLR's "finest".

Awesome shots of the fireworks and even better that you could enjoy them from the comfort of your room.

Danielle, I'm so sorry you had an awful and potentially dangerous service at Napa Rose with Izzy's Food. I hope Disney better educates their servers (particularly thr one you had) about guests with severe food allergies and how they can make it less of a hassle, like te one you had (and not put their guests in potentially dangerous situations with the food). I would certainly write to Disney about it. Your food looked delicious though. Glad Aladdin Show was great as were the fireworks from your balcony. I hope the trip got better from there.

Great start! Love, LOVE the photo of you and Izzy on the plane. Totally shocked about your meal at Napa Rose. Glad that you followed up with a letter. That's an important enough mistake for them not to take note. I think you will hear back from management.

Ahh…Magic Morning #1 of the trip…(we had three MM possible mornings out of four days). I am glad we were still on East Coast time as it was easy-peasy to be up and at ‘em at 6:00am! I zipped to the lounge first and was pleasantly surprised to find the most bea-u-ti-ful platter of fresh fruits. I helped myself to a nice selection and picked up a pain au chocolat just to balance out the healthy to fattening ratio! There was a nice selection of individual boxed cereals including oatmeal and kashi as well as assorted muffins, bagels, and breads. I liked the extra nod towards healthy eating. While I munched, one of the lovely CMs had a safe fruit plate made up for Izzy and also snagged me some Uncrustables. (I had heard these were very hard to find in the parks and this is Izzy’s safe staple lunch). Paul and I swapped places and while he munched, I packed the bag and pushed the kiddos along. I was getting a little concerned because it was 6:45 and we hadn’t even left. The whole time I am thinking by the time we get to bag check and then through the crazy turnstiles, MM will be over.

HAH! Apparently all of SoCal sleeps in because there was next to no one there. In fact, keeping with the whole laid back idea, the CMs didn’t even open the park until 7:05! If I tell you we left our room, walked through Downtown Disney, through bag check and then were about fifth in line by 7am….would you believe me?

Of course, it only gets better. I will tell you right now, we hit 12 rides in two hours. You, you heard me….TWELVE…How happy were we???

Okay, here is the run down.

1. Walked onto Peter Pan. Loved it and added bonus no crazy sail for me to bonk my head on.

2/3. Hop, skip and a jump to Matterhorn….rode that twice since they were doing some track maintenance and my group had to stay in the car.

4. Strolled into Alice in Wonderland. Adorable, love the in/outdoors effect.

5. Meandered to Mr. Toad. A little zippier than I remember but cute. Mr. Toad does have some wild adventures.

6. Sauntered to Pinocchio. Save the ride operator, not one person I wasn’t related to on this ride.

7. Traipse over to Snow White. A bit darker than WDW version but we enjoyed it.

8. Course over to BTMMR. Grab some FPs while the rest of the crew take a ride through the wild west!

9. Parade on over to Pirates. Oh my, this is far superior to WDW and a whole lot longer.

10. Hike towards Haunted Mansion. Madame Leota was fixed and not floating but still looked good and spooky.

11. Promenade towards Winnie the Pooh. We each snagged our own beehive since we were the solo family there.

12. Step back towards Storybook Canals. I thought this was really a nice and sweet way to end our marathon morning!

Whew…I am exhausted! J

With that, we exited DLR, went to guest services to pick up our 24 GAD/GAD Fastpasses, and then made our way to DCA for opening. AJ was hoping to snag World of Color Passes for himself and friend of his he would be meeting later that evening. I thought this was a crazy idea since WoC had just opened and I knew it would be a mob scene. You know how teenagers LOVE to be right and point out their parent’s mistakes? Well, sure enough, AJ was easily and happily able to snag the passes. Since we had way more GAD FPs then we could ever use, my threesome took a ride on Soarin’ before we doubled back to DLR for lunch!
