Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm a fan of chocolate which is why I tried that one, but as I said earlier I found a flavor later in the trip that I did like.

So glad the simple masking tape trick worked for you. It is merely a cheap deterrent that always seemed to work for us.
It worked great, thanks for the idea.

Definitely, I want to try them when we are in Europe next summer to see the difference.

I'm sure you've mentioned, but what hotel are you all at?

I've never been totally taken with the macarons either. I think I just haven't had really great ones yet, though.
We are at the Fairfield which was pretty nice.

It was a long day but everyday seemed long this trip except for Friday but we'll get to that. It's interesting that people either are or are not fans of the cookies, the one I tried was okay, I didn't dislike it but didn't love it either.

Great idea about the masking tape.
The masking tape idea was suggested here on the boards - and it worked super well so I'm grateful for the suggestion.

it is a tried and true method and doesn't involve someone actually being awake and waking the halls all night. I know some groups hire "nightguards" but honestly if i don't trust my kids that much, I don't want to take them.

Day 2, Wednesday part 1 - Here we go!

The goal was to meet downstairs in the lobby at 7:45 so that we could be at the park shortly after 8AM which is when it opened. 7AM was wake up call so I was already dressed and knocking on doors at 7. I was surprised that many of the students were already up and getting ready. DD is not a morning person at all and very difficult to wake up. Her room mate let me in and I had to pull covers and day "Disney, Disney, we're going to Disney!" to get her moving.
I went to the lobby about 7:35 and most of the students were there but Sirfredrick and 3-4 students had not arrived. Sheryl was getting antsy and vocal about it. I wanted to get going too but the teacher wanted us to walk over together. Finally, just before 7:55 the the rest showed up and Sheryl immediately started giving him a hard time about being late which made him angry. The teacher and I were like, "let's go!" We left the hotel and were halfway to the street and Sirfredrick and Sheryl were still snipping at each other. I turned to look (you know, the unhappy mom look) an told them they were not setting a good example for the students which got them to quit.
We crossed Harbor and walked under the Disneyland sign. I had never arrived this way before so it was interesting seeing all the buses and cast members arriving to work and of course all the people walking in with us. Security line was long but we all got through and then the gate line was long.

Teacher and students standing in security line.

DD and Karen coming though ticket line.

We stopped to take pictures.

Students out front. The PP photographer is taking there picture. ( I will get one up from them, I forgot I hadn't resized the PP ones yet.)

Once that was done, my group said they wanted to stay with me because we now only had less than an hour before the backstage meet. I mention this because this is the only time in the parks that my group was with me.

I moved pretty quick down main street, had them gather in front of the castle for a picture.

From left to right, Karen, Rebecca, DD in back (Beth), Harleen, Deana, Daryann and in front Eunice. I think we were all excited to finally be here!

I led them through the castle and immediately saw the PP ride line on my right which was already ridiculous but I wasn't heading there.
I turned left and we walked right on Snow White. Some of the girls were scared. Sheryl's daughter though Snow White was scarier than TOT!
Next we rode Pinocciho which was also a walk on. The girls thought it was great. I found Mr. Toad's, I think there was one group ahead of us but basically a walk on. I have a photo I'll include in next post. Then we did Tea cups, DD and I got on first and then it was full so we waited while the rest of the girls had their turn. While they were riding, I was trying to decide if we had enough time for Roger Rabbit before the meet and thought we'd go to the meeting place and see who was there first.

Up next, Alone with a dole whip and a duck.

I did not

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe the adults' behaviour - they were worse than the kids. Love the photo at the entrance!

Agreed! I'm getting really annoyed with these adults!

You are bringing back memories since we were there at the same time : ). But opposite park days. The classic advice to do the park opposite to emh seems to be the best when it comes to DL park. Those crowds were just unbearable, starting from magic hour. Now DCA and its hotel guests-only emh was a dream for us - more what we are used to at park opening for wdw in non-busy times.

The two-hour window of low lines does not apply at DL!

Amy-I remember being so surprised at how long it took for crowds to build at WDW compared to DL. PP STARTS at 40 minutes at DL, rain or shine.

I'm pretty disappointed in Sheryl for not keeping it together better. She's shaming the teacher, who has to go back to the school and keep the respect of his students. Not cool! And it sounds like he might be clueless about managing a group of this size too. (Asking about food preferences of a group of 20+ at the last minute. Not smart.)

That said, I know how annoying it is to try to keep a larger group together. I won't even stay with my family and a group of 7 or 8 when I tour the parks. At least it gives us something to talk about after-the-fact!

Aren't those lanterns above the teacups a national treasure?

It was ridiculous the way Sheryl and Sirfredrick were acting. The group photos at the entrance turned out really good. And as this was the only totally sunny day in the park - it was nice to have everyone lit up by sun.

The best part about trip reports is the remembering.

DL is so much smaller than MK in WDW so that has a big impact

And the weird part about the two chaperones is that by themselves they were nice people and got along with me well but they did not like each other and could not seem to put that aside. I loved the lanterns, they were so pretty and colorful.

We walked over to the meeting spot which was under the bridge between Toontown and Fantasyland and maybe half the group was there and it was only around 9;15 and the meet wasn't until 9;30 but my group didn't want to leave 'just in case' since we had been told that if anyone was late - they'd be left behind. I found out only 2-3 adults, besides the teacher could go in with the kids, somehow a parent who was not an official chaperone was going and Sheryl and Shalondra had already said they wanted to go which was fine. I wanted to get the photopass set up and was hoping I could go backstage tomorrow. Since the students wanted to stay, I walked over to RR and there was no line so I rode that then walked back to the group and it was only 9:26. I talked to DD for a minute telling her to pay really close attention to everything she saw and then the cast member arrived so I left.

Besides getting photopass set up I wanted to explore a bit to get my bearings since I hadn't been here in 8 years! I figured that way I could help direct people and not get lost This actually paid off in contributing to being called mama Disney since later Karen commented that I knew where everything was and never once looked at a map.
I found the camera shop and asked about the photopass and he explained if I had the Disney app I could order it right on there so I went outside and sat at a table close by to do that. Then I crossed over to the other side and began to wander, here are my photos from then

Day 2, Wednesday part 2 - Alone with a dole whip and a duck continued.

I had forgotten that after I left the students I went looking for a hat and this is what I decided on. I took a selfie to send to my adult DD so she could show my 2 year old granddaughter who loves Mickey and knows all the characters from watching Mickeys clubhouse. When adult DD showed granddaughter she laughed and said granny looked silly with Minnie on my head.

I decided to get a dole whip since while I was on my own since DD does not like pineapple .

I found a bench on the hub and sat to enjoy my dole whip when look who showed up.

I think he wanted to know if I'd share.

After enjoying my dole whip, I wandered towards Toontown, I wanted to find the path next to the king and queen restrooms because I had read it was a good place to sit on benches and watch the parade so off I went.

Up next: Where are you?
