Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 59 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like it all coming together, rain stopped, tummy full, room ready, groceries and suitcases delivered. But know your track record with Hollywood Studios I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the rain stays away.

Sanaa is always good! Even if I did find some of the dishes spicier than I remember.
Yay! Rain stopped that is a good thing. Sounds like a nice lunch.
It was a nice lunch and a gret way to kick off the vacation!

I know I've read people complain about it a bit, but is it just that they don't have lighting or is there anything that can be done about it? I'd like to try AKL at some point, but I'm not sure I'd like it if all their rooms are that way.
They are darker than most I would say. I think the lighting is less and all the dark wood and furnishings adds to that. I still love my 'home' though.

Mango margarita... well... it's a margarita so it can't be all bad!
Chocolate & raspberry is a great combo! I was pretty full from lunch so we each had a bit or two. If you like mangos and margaritas then you's love a mango margarita. It's DELICIOUS! (Right Linny?!)

That last one was on top of my priority list!

It was a much nicer walk than I remember. I'm thinking the patch maybe even changed?? I thought early on we had to go through the parking lot at one point. We did have to cross and walk by the bus stops, but that was ok.

It made the walk so much nicer since it wasn't raining.

I can't believe Dylan was tall enough for Barnstormer at 2...Patrick was 2 1/2 on our last trip and was nowhere close to tall enough. He was just measured at the doc's yeterday and is finally 39 inches at almost 5. The youngest will be three in August and is currently measuring 34 1/2 inches...think he'll grow another 1/2 inch in a few short weeks?
Looking forward to reading more. I had to laugh at your DHS = rain comment. We had ONE rain shower our entire week on our previous trip and it happened at DHS. We came out from Sci-Fi to find puddles on our stroller seats and it pretty much "sun-rained" the rest of our touring time at that park.
Measure Cullen with shoes on and he just might make it. Lukas was 34.5" at the doctor last week (he'll be 2 in 3 months), but he doesn't seem that tall when standing up - maybe he doesn't 'stand tall'. What is it with rain & DHS?

It was really good. I'm assuming it was the "Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Mint Sorbet" which is listed on AllEars. I didn't taste mint though.

IDK what you mean by that value studio room being smaller than a regular room, it looks bigger than the room we had, Maybe it's just the layou or not having 2 beds in there. I like what you had there.
Dylan was a champ taking that long walk. I am so curious to hear your take on the 2 strollers. I'm guessing on this little segment, you just took one for Lukas?
The mango rita!!!!! That's my girl
Lunch looked and sounded delish. We need to get there, for real this time.
Once I have unpacked and put things away, including the suitcases, that is when I truly feel like I am on vacation!!!!
Well once the sofa was pulled out to a bed and the pack n play was between that and the bed it was much more cramped. I just had enough room to get by the pack n play to get into bed. Apparently the 'value' studios are about 3 feet shorter (316 sq ft) in the living room area than non-value studios. But for not using as many points it was manageable. Yes, on this segment we just took Lukas in the stroller as my intention was to leave Dylan's in the room in the am and only bring it back at night after our break in the room. This was a test and clearly we needed the stroller at all times. We never buckled him in though - he just hopped in and out. I did think of you while I sipped that marg!

I love that place too and not just for the food. It's relaxing too. I love the atomsphere and we've always had great servers there too.

I wish you would've had them crossed and sent some pixies while we were there, but more on that later.

Getting caught up...I was so excited to see your food pics...and then so disappointed to learn there would not be many more . I have appreciated food pics so much that I have tried to remember to take my own at WDW.
I just LOVE when resorts greet you y name at checkin. We have only been twice so far and that only happened at BC. I wondered if it was a Deluxe thing...

Sorry about the food pics! I'll try harder on the next trip when we'll have 2 extra sets of hands to keep the boys occupied.
I'm not sure if it's a deluxe thing or not. I'm assuming it has to do with DME &/or on-line check-in since they know more when you'll arrive.

I could go for one of those ritas about now. And today I came across a groupon for a place I'd never heard of and it appears they offer a lot of the same choices as Sanaa. So I think we'll be trying it out.

Since I haven't worked on another update I figured I'd share some pictures from Father's Day weekend - those on FB have seen these already, but you can look again.
Saturday we went to my parent's "farm". I say "farm" because there are no crops. It's more of a hunting lodge. Anyway, my Dad loves it so we usually try to go for Father's Day at the very least. There's a pond to fish in too and that's what we planned on doing plus shooting the BB gun Dylan got from Santa, but apparently 'Santa' forgot to buy BBs. So, just fishing it was.
Dylan's 1st catch
Dylan's 2nd catch
Lukas and my brother Kevin
My Dad & the boys
Mike's catch. I just used the zoom on this. If we were watching we'd never even know if he'd caught anything because he never made a peep.
Lukas & Becki (SiL)
Gotta check out the tractor.
Monkey see, monkey do
All that fishing took it out of him
We also celebrated my brother's 30th, which is Sunday. (He's also getting a surprise party, so he probably thought this was lame.)
Dylan introducing himself to his baby cousin-to-be
Sunday we went to Mike's parents and had a late lunch and then swam in the pool.
Making waves with Uncle Ryan & Aunt Laura
Dylan & Laura (Mike's sister)
Lukas & my MiL
Dylan thought he could swim all by himself. He quickly decided he still needed his flotation device.
Lukas & FiL
me & Lukas
PawPaw showing off his Father's Day present (from MiL) to the boys. Both my in-laws got Disney gift cards for Mother's & Father's day as on our next trip I booked them dinner at Flying Fish and the gift cards are for that meal.
bubbles!
I think it's funny that Dylan already looks like he's been hit with the ball.
Fishin', swimmin', and playin' ball! Can't think of a better way to spend Father's Day weekend. Funny thing about them BB guns... without the BBs they just blow a lot of hot air... hmmmm, that's what my DW says about me!!
