I Don’t Wanna Grow Up – 30th Birthday Trip x2, August 7-11, 2010 - Page 59 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great time at DHS. Sorry the mousekeeper threw out your TS3 cup though!
I know right! Last year they wouldn't take the dirty dishes from the lounge we had, but this time they threw out that cup! Oh well! Dylan will just have to get his own on our next trip.

Can't believe that you are under a month for the newest arrival...you look wonderful by the way. You are carrying just so perfectly
If you like reubens they are apparently really good. I'll just be taking everyone's word on it - none for me thanks. Thank you! Although I feel like I've popped out even more over night - my shirt barely covers my belly right now!!

I'm thinking the company. You should give it a try again. We have been to Sci-Fi on every trip we've taken together and I just don't think it would be Disney without a trip there.

I love that view from you room, just breathtaking.
We love SciFi too. It is our arrival dinner in December. I think the food is great and so is the atmosphere. The girls absolutely love it there. I think it is sitting in the car and being at the drive in.
Thanks so much! Like I was saying before - the all belly is kind of a curse right now as my shirts aren't covering this belly. I better not have to buy new clothes - only 4 weeks to go!

Funny...last year we couldn't get out of the shop in the hotel to get on a bus. I ended up saying "they sell this everywhere Eric now come on" LOL
I too love the atomosphere at the Sci fi drive in because they play those old B movie trailers which are too funny and I like the drive in type atomosphere. Its a cool place to eat for sure!
Too bad about the cup! I wouldve been really upset!
I REALLY HOPE they put up those decorations after all you went through!
I think Eric has definitely been bitten- the more I hear about your last trip together the more I know he "gets it"and that is just great!!

I certainly hope they put up those decorations!
It's almost 9am here and I'd take one too - although with this pregnancy I'd pretty much eat a cheeseburger at any given time all day long. It's what I've been craving.

I too love those rice krispy treats. My in-laws just went - and they always bring us stuff back (yes, they will even though we got back the week before them) and I was telling Mike - "I'd be happy if your parents just brought me Mickey head rice krispy treats."

We made it back to AKL at about 5:30pm and upon entering our room….
The decorations and gifts had been put up/out!!! I said “Surprise!” to Mike. He’s not much for showing emotion, but he was excited. There was one thing missing though – the SWW t-shirt I’d ordered back in June. I told Mike something was missing, but wouldn’t inform him what it was. I decided I’d call later to see what happened to it. I thought maybe they’d do it for his actual birthday maybe.
There were also gifts from AKL:
We each got a pen, but only I got the luggage tag.
Mike had snuck a present for me as well:
(I took this off the Disney shopping website.)
After I took pictures of all the decorations and gifts we relaxed in the room. I called my Mom to see how Dylan was doing while Mike snacked on things from the lounge- Tusker beer, samosas, etc. I wasn’t hungry so I didn’t have anything.
At 7:15pm we headed out to MK so we could see the 9pm MSEP (there was another at 11pm that night, but I didn’t think I’d last that long). Upon entering MK we strolled up Main Street and saw that there was no line at the Partners statue with the PP guys – unheard of! So we got a few of those (to be added later) and moved on to Liberty Square. It was about an hour before the parade and I saw that the sleigh outside the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe was open so I decided that was where we’d watch the parade (Thanks Cam for that tip in one of your TRs!). It really is a great location (no one standing right next to you and you can see over everyone) – and you can see the castle too. I think I took pictures of every color of it that night:
I videotaped the parade while Mike snapped some pictures.
[I also got some pictures on my PhotoPass card of the aprade which are really good. I'm thinking these are bonus pictures they put on there since we were there during the Summernightastic. Not sure, but I know I didn't take them and it was a nice surprise.]
It was such a great parade and I’m SO glad we got to see it. I think I may prefer it to Spectro, but Mike likes Spectro better still.
After the parade we decided to do some stuff since we would be seeing the fireworks tomorrow night at the dessert party. We looked in a few of the shops nearby and then went on Haunted Mansion – my first ride of the trip!! I love riding HM at night – just makes it all that much better! When we came out of HM the fireworks were going on – and Wow! We’d be in for a treat tomorrow night.
Next we went to Adventureland and went on Pirates. This is my all time favorite ride – I just love it and could ride it all day every day. This trip to the Caribbean was ruined by some kid behind us who would not shut up the entire ride! So irritating! I told Mike we’d have to go back on it to make up for the not so good experience (sadly that never happened).
After Pirates I was a little hungry (remember there was no snacking earlier for me) so we stopped at Aloha Isle. And no, we didn’t get a Dole Whip. I decided the try the Citrus Swirl (Orange & Vanilla twist) this time. As I was searching for some change, the CM saw the birthday button and decided to give it to me for free!! Yeah! Love the birthday button! I shared with Mike and it was oh so good.
We walked through the Emporium on our way out of the park to avoid the lining up for the second parade and made some mental notes of other things to get. Upon exiting the lines for the monorail were crazy! I mean they had ropes and CMs with the light up batons directing traffic crazy!! And then the ferry boat was just about as bad! (I later heard it took someone over an hour to just get to the TTC.) I guess everyone decided to come see the parade that night.
We had a 10-15 minute wait for a bus and were back in the room by 11:50pm. [I’m happy to report that I never had to stand on a bus. If there were no seats many were kind enough to offer me one.]
It was a long day, but a good one! DHS didn’t seem crowded at all, but MK seemed more like the crowds we’re used to traveling in late May/early June. It was warm today plus humid and not a lot of breeze, so it was a sticky day. We both got a lot of birthday wishes, which was nice.
There was one thing I noticed today. Now I don’t want to sound mean or anything, but I saw several (3-4) children over age 4 with pacifiers! Now I just got Dylan off his at age 2.5, but he was only using them at bed or nap time. These kids were just walking around (no strollers in sight even) with them. I just thought it was strange to see that many kids that I would assume be past that stage with them. Sorry if there are parents out there that have or still do this!
Oh man, the B-day decorations look FANTASTIC!!!! Great job, and AK did a great job with putting them up.
Your cuff watch is super cool too.
I think the sleigh might be a good idea for us to watch the parade. That seemed like your own private viewing area. How long in adavnce did you get there for that? Did anyone else try to jump in with you two?
So, you went on PoTC?? I read that was a no for pregnant women. I thought it was a weird restriction though, I also read the Safari was a no too? Is any of that true?

Sounds like a great day, Kelly! I too love the burgers at the Sci-Fi. But what I really love there are the milkshakes. The birthday decorations are great! And love your gifts. Glad you got to see MSEP. The pics you got are good!

I didn't know you could sit in that sleigh to watch the fireworks...that's a great tip, and now everyone reading this is probably going to try it. The decorations turned out great and I love how AKL gave you gifts as well!

I think we sat in the sleigh about an hour before parade time. It did get more croweded in the area as it got closer to parade time. We had 2 ladies sit in back, but it was fine. Then we had some other people on the steps that lead you to getting into the sleigh. We got to sit until it started and then stood during the parade. I went on PoC and didn't think the drop was too bad - later we went on Maelstrom and I thought it was worse - very bumpy ride that one! I think they do say something about the Safari - we passed on it this trip actually. I think becuase it's so bumpy, but when I wasn't as far along with Dylan I went on the safari - just requested the front row as it's less bumpy than the back.

I was quite impressed with Mike's picture taking ability. We did get a bit of a fancier camera this year, so maybe that helped too - plus I set the settings for him.

I learned that tip from here and it worked out well - other people in the area were a bit jealous too.

Okay, first off, I had posted something yesterday but I had used the quote function and must have not pressed post after reviewing it! UGH!
So for yesterday, I had agreed with Laurie about y'all looking like a couple of teenagers in your drive-in car. And we love Sci- Fi too. The food there has always been good and we absolutely love the atmosphere! I may have to try the Reuben though next time I go, Mike's looked so yummy!! In Oct., DMom and I are trying Hollywood Brown Derby's Cobb Salad and the Grapefruit Cake everyone raves about for the first time.
And for today - The AKL IPO did a great job decorating y'all's room and how awesome they included a few extras! They have always provided great service, that's why I love AKL sooo much (well the Savannah views are another big factor).
Loved your pics of the Electrical Parade. I can't wait to see this in Oct. I grew up on that parade with visits to Disney Land and was sad when WDW first announced that it was only a summer time thing. Then they announced that they would extend it and I was thrilled!! I will have to keep that viewing spot in mind.
I also agree that riding HM at night just makes it all that more awesome. I even get the chills some times!! PotC is my favorite MK ride too. I can ride it over and over again. Last year my poor DMom was like, can we ride something else please? We were at the MVMCP and there was NO wait. Plus at that time I only had the May 2011 trip planned so I thought it was going to be a year and a half before I was gonna get to ride it again.
Kelly, what awondrful first day you & Mike had. The room looks wonderful with all the decorations, and I could even spot Hidden Mickeys the way the Mobile was hanging in your room! How wonderful they gave you your ice cream at Aloha Isle free with
your Birthday Button. So sorry to hear Mike's shirt was missing. Those gifts look wonderful though. More please Kelly.
What great decorations they had for you guys. I love the watch that Mike got you.
The sleigh sounds like a perfect place to watch the parade.
You got some great pics of MSEP too!
