As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I love thos kind of museums. They are so fun. We have one near us, but it's not as historical. We also have another about an hour or so away that I haven't been to in years.
Maybe you should head back out there... I'm sure it would make a great trip report.
Wednesday 4 September – part three: bovine beauties!
We came out and followed the sound of bells, and here they were! Aren’t they beautiful? I felt sorry for them with the flies bothering them, but they all looked like beautiful specimens.
As well as close-up shots, I got a few what I call picture postcard shots, with cows, the grass, the mountains, and even the odd Swiss home in shot.
We eventually moved off from there, and went to visit the cheese dairy, which was still being used for that purpose today. It was quite a stench in there, I can tell you!
We moved on, and I spotted an addition in the field we hadn’t been able to see before.
We next looked at this property, a mountain farmhouse built in 1698. It had a dwelling area, cattle shed (sadly no cows here now…) and a hayloft under one roof.
The scenery and the architecture around here was just beautiful.
I found the restrooms, and I really liked the sign they had here.
We found these adorable guys. Nearly as cute as cows…
As you can see, all the piglets were lying contently asleep in the sun, when one decided to get up, and went trotting over to mum.
What happened next was classic. He ran up there to obviously get some food, and unfortunately chose the wrong area of mum to stand underneath shall we say. I’m sure you can guess what’s coming next. Mum felt the call of nature, and the two of us and another couple watching next to us just dissolved into fits of laughter.
That was it, the piglets were all awake, and went piling off to find mum, pursuing her around the yard.
Eventually, she gave in gracefully…
Sadly, there was one little guy who was limping, and he was obviously the runt of the litter.

Such beautiful scenery and I love the way the buildings don't ruin the views. They're just nestled in and add dimension to the landscape. The cows are real beauties, and those piglets are adorable. Guess the one little guy had a lesson on how to approach mom in the future. Hope they take care of the baby with the limp.

We haven't gone that far, but quite a few of those shots did find their way into the digital scrapbook I did for this trip.

Any idea, what type of cows are here as they seem to be of all different varieties?
Did you have a chance to take a taste of any of the cheese here, even though it was a bit vibrant to the senses?

I love all your pics in this update. However, the one with the cow lifting it's face to the sun, or so it appears, is great! I can almost hear the "moo". Those piglets are precious. Poor little runt. I shall call him Wilber.
Loved the photos as usual and such great scenery! Love the ones of your boys and the piglets! Unfortunately, one piglet made the wrong move! I guess, for this particular one, it's a growing up experience!

Wednesday 4 September – part four: more close-up animal encounters
We moved on, and look who we found next! It might have been Mark’s birthday, but heck I was certainly hitting the jackpot today!
Then, our friends, the M18 hornet aircraft did a return fly-past…
In case you’re wondering, there’s an airfield that we believe is a military one in the valley, and it is slightly peculiar, bearing in mind the Swiss are neutral…
We wandered back, and the piglets were obviously full after their meal…
These guys came down the road…
… and we also saw these guys. Ok, there has to be a “why did the chicken cross the road?” joke somewhere in here…
I was fascinated by this tourist kiosk. There’s no way you’d see it selling these products today.
We heard my boys again, and there was obviously a lot of movement up there, so Mark asked if I wanted to go back and see them. Well, Ok then, if you insist… It was definitely worth it – look what we found:

We got more picture postcard moments as well!
Mark spotted that in the downstairs of the cheese dairy was a massive collection of huge cow bells. The weight of these things! Wow, how on earth a cow carries one of these, I do not know.
