Cheaper by the Dozen – Lukas’ 1st Birthday Extravaganza! - Page 57 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm not sure if we are going to be traveling in June or not. I might do a solo trip for a few days--I'm trying to plan a short trip, so when you know your dates let me know--I'd love to see you!
We'd love to see you too! We're booked at AKL, May 29 - June 5.
Oh my goodness! Those pictures are so precious I started crying, & they're not even my family! Definitely need to know the name & info for her. So many great shots. I'm thinking those are worth the price of the whole dang vacation!

I guess this is something I would be it in the 'what I learned from this trip' section. We brought a sit-n-stand and while it did work we have gotten another umbrella stroller for when we go next year as Dylan still wants to sit and falls asleep and he was too big for the front of the sit-n-stand. I got the sit-n-stand for $50 off craigslist so it wasn't a waste, but had I known what I know now I probably would've just brought the 2 strollers we already had - the travel system one and the umbrella for Dylan.
that is great to know since I know my little guy still likes to sit back and relax too. When we go back next Oct, he will be 4 1/2 and the baby would be 4 months so we will either do a double or two singles still.

I'd recommend two singles - that way you can go separately if needed.
right now we use a baby jogger for Sam which he loves and so do we. we have a double baby jogger too, just not sure about having a 4 1/2 year old and 4 month old in it, so we may have to do two singles! Thanks for the info!

Hey Kelly, chimming in on the stroller chat............since we were mostly on the ship I didn't think we would need 2 strollers, and I sure wasn't going to bring our double stroller. As much as I do need that thing at times, I hate it. We brought one umbrella ( yes, the pink one) but I was wondering about bringing 2 next year. We made Josie walk most of the time, but she sometimes wanted to be in it, or on Arnaud's shoulders's which that couldn't always work either. I'm curious to see how you make out with the 2. But first, back to this year's TR!!!!!! Waiting

Since we had so many people with us on this trip, Dylan wanted to be carried one way or another. He did ride on my brother's shoulders or my Dad's often. But with it just being Mike & I next time there will be no carrying - he can walk or ride in the stroller. I'm thinking we may leave it in the room in the morning and then when we go back for a break bring it with us then for the tiredness of the evening and the walk to the buses and back to the room.
I know! I know! Things have gotten busy! I did order the Photopass cd today though!
Okay, I wasn't going to say anything but, hello....you were supposed to have started this thing way before I left for my trip so I could get even more excited for Club Level! Now I find out you just ordered your CD yesterday! You're killing me over here.

I still have 3 weeks & 3 days!
I'm on here at work and I just haven't had time since we've been back.
I'll get to it soon. I hope.
I got up at 5am and started to get ready. Then I made Mike get up and get going and then I finally got the boys up and dressed. Our ride arrived a little after 6am and we were out the door at 6:20am. The airport is about 20 minutes from our house so we were soon there and going inside to check our bags and get Lukas’ boarding pass. We hadn’t seen Mike’s parents or my parents yet but I decided to go through security anyway. As we got in line in came my parents and they were right behind us in the security line. The TSA agent checking boarding passes must not have had her morning coffee because she was CRABBY! Loudly announcing that children needed to be holding their own boarding passes. Thank goodness Dylan was cooperative this morning! After that we made it through quickly and went to find out gate which is also where Mike’s parents were. My Mom & I went to Starbucks and Burger King to grab drinks and breakfast. Pumpkin Spice Latte of course for me!
Let's go already!
That's our plane!
Hmmmm.....
Even though I checked in 24 hours in advance we’d still gotten B boarding passes, but since we have small children we boarded after the As. Mike’s parents had done EBCI and saved seats for everyone so we could all sit together. And my plan of the grandparents taking one child each worked! My parents got Lukas who slept for half the flight and Mike’s parents had Dylan who ate and played during the whole flight. And Mike & I sat on the opposite side!
I had made goodie bags for the flight crew which included a Halloween silly band, mini clip, gum, and candy (chocolate) and handed those to the flight attendant when we’d gotten on the plane to share with the rest of the crew. One flight attended announced over the speaker who had provided the bags, so here I am half way back in the window seat and I raise my hand. She comes back and gives me a hug then tells me I can have whatever drink I want. So later I got Bailey’s – and she gave me 2. And did I drink both?! You’re darn right I did – I was on vacation! Who cares that it was about 10am STL time.
Cheers!
The rest of the flight was smooth and we may have even arrived about 10 minutes early. We stopped for restroom breaks and then on our way to DME I found Kevin & Becki would be arriving within a half hour so we decided to wait for them.
Dylan is pulling Mike's Dad's suitcase and this inspired us to get him a Lightning McQueen suitcase for Christmas - we're hoping he'll pull it himself next year.
Once Kevin & Becki arrived we headed to the DMW line, waited a short bit and then got on the bus. And the bus was only making one stop at AKL-Jambo House! Sadly our movie didn’t work so I think I tried to get Lukas to sleep again or he had some snacks. Soon we arrived at AKL and made our way in & up to club level. Our room wasn’t ready but we helped ourselves to plenty of snacks – goldfish, gummy bears, cookies, home-made chips, soda, beer, & the best drink of all – The African Smoothie (just a mixture of juices but it’s delicious!). Kevin realized he only had an undershirt and a jacket so he needed to hit the gift shop for a T-shirt to wear since it was warm. Never thought the person to like Disney the least would be the first to get something. He ended up with a nice navy blue AKL shirt. Mike’s parents’ room was ready so we headed to check it out and leave our extra carry-on bags with them before leaving for Epcot at 2:30pm.
