Fall, Firsts, Food And The Final Frontier TR - UPDATED 11/11 - COMPLETE!! - Page 55 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow, that's sounds like a frustrating flight home but at least you got the $100 flight credit for your next Disney trip! We've been delayed at Orlando trying to get home to NJ and I know at that point that you just want to get home. Thanks for sharing your trip adventures with us.
The delay was a bit aggravating but at least I got home without my flight being cancelled! The credit came in handy for my just completed trip. Glad you enjoyed this TR as I enjoy sharing these. A bit long from start to finish at just over a year, but tough to find the time to do updates with work etc.

Well this is the end of my TR and will basically be a bit of a summary but nothing extensive.
I enjoyed this trip so much and especially how “Firsts” factors into this trip. There were so many of them.
It was the first time I stayed at a non- Disney World resort in all my trips here. I enjoyed the B Resort so much. My room was quite spacious and comfortable. The proximity to Disney Springs was a definite bonus. The Disney Springs bus system worked well for me with them running every thirty minutes and you knew when they’d show up by the schedule and were generally on time. You lose a few amenities staying here rather than at a Disney resort, but most of them I was fine without. The ones I miss were the 60 day window for FP+ reservations and EMHs. The latter I like for the late nights at the MK.
I enjoyed my first visit to the Kennedy Space Center and glad I finally did it. You certainly need a whole day there and I covered everything. The highlight was certainly the Space Shuttle Atlantis as amazing seeing up close in person.
Another first was my first ever experience at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival. I just can’t believe in all my trips to Disney, I never did this and now I’m hooked. October is a great time to visit Disney. I did the festival all out with so much sampling with my two days at the festival. I probably sampled twenty different food offerings and several beverages as well. Some were better than others but enjoyed everything overall. The two seminars I did were quite fun as well.
My first experience in the new Disney Springs was a lot of fun as well. I felt lost when I arrived there as I was trying to get my bearings and figure out where I was as I didn’t recognize much. Especially, in the former Pleasure Island area as that’s where you arrive by one of the Disney buses. I enjoyed the changes here and looking forward to trying many of the new eateries here, but it will take several trips as there are so many new ones and still more to come.
There were also quite a few eateries and meal experiences I tried for the first time on this trip. Not one of them was disappointing.
I loved the California Grill Brunch as even though it was quite expensive, I enjoyed it so much from the variety of food offerings, service and the sights from the 15th floor of the Contemporary Resort. The food was done and prepared so well and so enjoyable.
I tried two new Disney Springs restaurants. The first being Frontera Cocina by chef Rick Bayless. Food was very good and had the best shrimp cocktail ever. I loved Morimoto as the look of the inside of this eatery is just stunning. My meal was great and even better as I had two things prepared for me tableside.
I also enjoyed Tiffin’s in the AK and is a great new offering which I enjoyed so much from the cuisine to the fantastic themeing inside. The Nomad Lounge next door accompanies it quite well with some very interesting concoctions.
The last new restaurant I tried was a pleasant surprise as the reviews have been very mixed on this restaurant. I had a very good meal at Hollywood Studios Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and very happy that I not only tried it but enjoyed it so much.
Another first for me was the Star Wars Dessert Party which I enjoyed a lot and was worth the money I spent on this as I wasn’t sure it’d be worth it. Lots of good food and beverage offerings. The best part of it was the VIP viewing area for the spectacular Star Wars Fireworks Show. Just a well done show.
As far as attractions, I love the new Soarin’ Around The World and enjoy this much more than the previous version. Just done so well and glad I got to experience it four times on this trip.
There may be a few things I’m leaving out but I think this covers the bulk of it.
Even though this wasn’t a first, I had an exceptional meal and experience at Victoria & Albert’s Queen Victoria’s Room. I covered it well from start to finish with my photos. Even though, so pricey I’m happy I could alleviate some of the cost with my Disney Rewards dollars.
This puts another TR in the books and glad I could share it with everyone here and seems like you all enjoyed it very much. I always appreciate your comments, which makes my TRs even better.
I hope to get my most recent trip to Disney going soon, which also covers Universal Orlando and Sea World as well soon. I will be using Flikr this time around and just need to become familiar with it. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem as many of you seem to like it.

You really did have a lot of new experiences this trip! You are so right about October - it's a great time of the year to visit, even if you did manage to find the crowds on a weekend for Food and Wine. Yikes, I shudder to think from our memories of an overcrowded Epcot at that time of year!
Thanks ever so much for sharing it with us. I loved reading it and can't wait to get going on the next one.

It was a great trip and glad I enjoyed so many new experiences. Love October here as temps starting moderate a bit. The crowds on Epcot on that Saturday were beyond ridiculous! Glad I was only there for Chefs de France!
Glad you liked my TR and I've enjoyed sharing it so much! I hope the next TR won't be far behind but just need to get familiar with Flikr as well as upload the photos there first. Looking forward to another TR!

Great wrap up Dave! Lots of new experiences. I’m glad you enjoyed the food and wine fest. We love it and going in October. Although we are finally going to go mid November so I can finally see the Christmas decorations.

Glad you enjoyed my TR, even with this long journey from start to finish was just over a year! I'm glad I got to experience the festival for the first time as I enjoyed it so much.

Glad you enjoyed my TR so much as I had such a great adventure! The flight delay of 4+ hours was not fun but at least I got a $100 credit to use within a year which I did use on my most recent trip to Florida! It worked out well!
I love doing these TRs so much and I think I get better at these not only with each TR but each post and the details provided! I can't believe I have 91K+ views on this TR and boggles my mind! My others aren't even close to this! Must be doing something right to grab everyone's interest and hope this continues!
