Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

So glad you enjoyed Morimoto Asia! But I'm not so glad that your TR is coming to an end Sounds like the rain was really coming down but it didn't seem to damper your enjoyable evening

Too bad you had all the rain to deal with, but good for Luke for grabbing the ponchos! I'm glad you had such a good meal.

Do you guys like ribs? Morimoto's has the BEST ribs ever! Chuck and I shared a bunch of small plates never even getting a full entree. Ribs, Toro tartare, sushi, chicken bao, and dumplings. Every bite was awesome! Service was a bit spotty - they forgot the toro and brought it out later after we reminded them. We also had a wait and didn't have our phones with us so we waited in the bar. But they never came and got us - they still sent a text to our phones even after we told them that we didn't have them with us! Did you see the post that Morimoto himself signed? - if you couldn't tell we really loved it. We are going back in September!

I thought it was bok choy, too, but it is clearly listed on the menu as Chinese broccoli because I was totally expecting something else, more like broccoli. When I was typing yesterday's update, I even when to the Disney website and the side is also listed as chinese broccoli (with a lower case "c" that as an English teacher I wanted to correct). You got me curious so I just did a Bing search and it is Chinese broccoli also known as Chinese kale while bok choy is also known as Chinese cabbage. From the photos these look very similar.

Also, thanks for the restroom photos, so now I have a clue what to expect in those...
I can't wait to go back in October, and my sister's family is very excited about trying the sushi. I've enjoyed the bathroom photos that you and others have taken, and these restrooms were priceless.

Really the rain put a damper only on the evening in that I never made it to Illuminations, but will get to that in September and October. I just loved Morimoto Asia as soon as we walked inside before we'd even tried the food. Thank goodness the food was great, too.

Of course having said that, we aren't going to be dining there this year or next, but it will definitely have to go on our list for the future!
The orange chicken was done just the way I like it and the white rice worked well with it. We'll be back in October so I'll have another review because I know I will be trying another of my favorite Asian dishes -- Chicken Fried Rice. A lady at the table beside us got this and part of me kept wishing I had gotten it, but then I eat more orange chicken and all was good.

I would have been so disappointed if the Pork Egg Rolls hadn't been good. I may try another app when we go back in October. The weather forecasters on the local channels were amazed by the rain. I think several roads flooded, but none of that affected us in the bubble.

This trip may be almost over, but that means my next PTR is soon to start. On the way to the bus stop the puddles had become ponds and the rivers streams. Every sidewalk had our feet under a couple of inches of water, so we just kicked up our feet and I giggled like a little girl.

I must have thanked Luke a hundred times that he made the decision to bring the ponchos along. Most of me from the knees up stayed dry. Poor Luke being so much taller got a bit more wet.

We neither one like ribs. I know we are odd. Maria was an excellent server, but I know service is always dependent on who is your wait staff. Weird that they text you about your table even after you'd let them know you didn't have them with you. I don't think I saw the post Morimoto signed. I'll have to look for that in October when we go back.

Sorry about all the rain. but at least you got some shopping done and even better you were in the hands of a CM from your alma mater! Looks like Konnor(correct spelling?) took good care of you!

Glad to finally hear about your experience at Morimoto! I was expecting a good review but nothing like this as the two of you just enjoyed some of the Asian/Chinese staples! As you know I'm very adventurous in my cuisine and am looking so forward to my dinner here on Thursday, October 20th, after my trip to the KSC!

I can't wait for this and so happy the two of you enjoyed it so much here! This will make my trip even better! I plan on trying some unique choices off the menu, to make my experience that much better! When you compare it to Sanaa, which I know is your favorite WDW restaurant, than Morimoto's is truly something, especially after only one meal here! I'm amazed overall!

I think we have a new great gem!

Sounds like y'all had a great last day. I am so excited about your review of Morimoto. We have an ADR for lunch. My kiddos want to eat there bc they know of him from food network. My plan is to order a couple dishes for us all to share as we aren't adventurous. I'm glad to know there is a heat option for dh!

For the most part I'm not adventurous at all, but Luke is a bit braver. Hope you enjoy your Morimoto dishes when you finally get there in October.

NEXT: Saying Goodbye and Heading Home
Day 11 Wednesday, May 18, 2016

We were up at 6:00 after a rather restless night. Both of us were ready by 7:00 and took another load to the car. When we returned to the second floor, I took a few more photos around Kidani before returning to the room where Luke was waiting for me with the final bags and pillows. Then it was goodbye to a very lovely and convenient room.

By 7:30 we were pulling out of the garage, heading to McDonald’s for breakfast. I got the Cinnamon Melts and Luke had an Egg McMuffin. We both had Cokes so the caffeine would help us stay awake for a long morning of driving. Soon afterwards, we were bursting the magical bubble and traveling toward home. Our first stop was for gas and restrooms at exit 368 in Micanopy. You may be wondering why I bothered to record the exit number. We were very impressed with the facilities here. I don’t have a receipt for this stop so I don’t remember the name of the station, but it had deluxe resort style restrooms that were immaculately clean and elegant. If we drive again, this would be a place we’d choose to stop. We made Atlanta between 2:30 – 3:00 on a weekday, which wasn’t too bad at all, but no one will ever convince me to live there. Just too busy for me. Looking at my notes, it appears that Luke did the majority of driving home. He started and drove for 3 hours, and then I drove for three. Somewhere in there we stopped at a little after 11:00 for lunch at a McDonald’s. We weren’t really that hungry, so I just got a medium fry with a Coke, and Luke had a chocolate shake. Three hours later we stopped again for gas at a Circle K in Forest Park, Georgia where we also used the restrooms and picked up some snacks. We ran into some rain south of Chattanooga while we were still in Georgia, but that was it for bad weather. Luke took back over driving for 4 hours before we stopped for supper around 5:30. We found a Sonic after asking directions where we got gas. I was craving a grilled cheese sandwich with tater tots and lemonade (this is the kid’s meal). Luke just wanted a large order of tots. Then he drove us home. There was a brief stop just across the Kentucky state line at a rest stop that looked gorgeous on the outside but was appalling on the inside. I was ashamed that my state thought this was acceptable, and wondered what kind of person vandalizes public restrooms. I failed to record when we actually arrived home, but I think I remember it was around 8:30. For some reason I felt compelled to unload every single suitcase, but I didn’t touch any of the souvenirs. At 10:30 I knew I was beginning to get sick, so I climbed in bed and called it one very long day. For the next 3 weeks I had a persistent cough, hoarse throat, runny nose, sneezing, all the classic symptoms of a head cold or allergies. But at least I was home for all that loveliness.

Final trip stats:

1,675 miles
71.5 gallons of gas
25 hours and 40 minutes travel time

NEXT: Final Thoughts

Quite the travel day, but nice that you can make it home in one (very long) day!
And if you're going to be sick, it's so much better to be home in your own bed!

So sad when you have to give your adieus to your room and resort on departure day! Quite a long travel day and couldn't believe the condition of those restrooms at the rest stop! Glad you made it home fine!

The drive seemed uneventful. Sorry you came down with a cold, but at least it wasn't while you were at Disney. That wouldn't have been good.

It was an uneventful trip. The drive home isn't nearly as exciting as the trip down to WDW.

On the way home, we'd rather not stop as by that point we are just ready to be home again.
