Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 55 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oh Kelly, That is great news............about the scholarship that is....not the sinus stuff.
I hope you kick that this week. I decided to switch my allergy meds from Allegra to Clartin and that has helped me. Who knew??
So 35 inches is the magic number for Barnstormer?? Andre was at 33inches at his 15 month, I'm thinking he might make that goal by Sept! Now I'm really excited.......but not at the same time
I've tried Claritin & Zyrtec (well store brand) and neither seemed to help much. So hopefully switching to Allegra will do it for me.
Yep, 35 inches. I bought a growth chart at Disney one year and it tells you what height for the rides. I'm always measuring the boys before a trip. Dylan needs to grow like quarter inch to make it to 44" so he can ride Space Mountain and a few others.
My doctor said the double their height at 2 to see how tall they're most likely to be as an adult. How tall is Arnaud? I'm sure Andre will be tall like him. He thinks the boys will both be at least 6 feet. Mike is 6'1", so it's possible. I'm only 5'4" though.
I hope your sinus is soon better. Mine's much improved with Sudafed, which is available from pharmacists here - I know it's much harder to get in the States, but it really is a saviour for me.
I hope the new meds work for you, Kelly! How great about the scholarship! I'm just amazed at how much you (and so many others on this board) can pack into your schedules. I guess it really is true that if you need something done, "ask a busy person"!

Geesh, if that is true, then my poor DD will only be like 5 foot...if that. I didn't look up her exact height at age 2, but I know that she just made the 40" mark on our trip when she was 5!
According to the online stuff, Barnstomer is 35" unless they changed it since the refurb. You have to be 40" to ride BTMR and SM. 44" for EE, Space Mount, or RNRC. Somehow, it just seems wrong that Barnstomer and EE and RnRC have the same height requirements.
Hope you feel better Kelly. Can't wait for your report!
Sorry you're still a bit under the weather. Do you tend to have a lot of sinus problems? Is it an issue every year? I ask because I had sinus problems all the time for years. The steroid treatments never worked for me and neither did any allergy meds. I was constantly getting sinus infections and even having my sinuses flushed. In 2008 I had sinus surgery to fix a deviated septum and some other problems. BEST THING EVER! I haven't had a single problem since. And I hardly ever get head colds now. If it's recurring for you I'd look into seeing an ENT and see what they recommend.
I hope the meds work. Good luck on the scholarship!! Give the boys some spinach... hey, it worked for Popeye!!
Getting the boys to eat spinach would take a miracle! I might have to sneak it in somewhere.

Sudafed does help, but once it wear off it's back to normal (well my normal). And I'd really like to stop popping pills.

If I get this scholarship I'll have to fit even more in, but it will be worth it.

Maybe it's a boy thing? And it's really just to estimate.
Dylan will be 5 in October and I'm assuming he'll make it to 44" by our trip in September. He may not want to ride those rides though.

Good luck with the scholarship!
There's always the next time! And thanks!

So double at 2 huh? Looks like I'm going to have a couple of peanuts then
Good luck on your essays!! a full scholarship would be awesome!!
Well Zach doesn't seem to be too short. Look back to see how tall he was at 2.
It would be awesome! It's hard though - my brain is fried.

It's hard to remember when they started, but I know this year has been particularily bad - never seems to go away. If neither of these rounds works I'll see about an ENT. I'm glad what you had done works for you!

I had intended on getting a mystic (spray) tan as I’d gotten a Groupon for 2. I went that morning to the tanning place up the street, but found out they weren’t a participating location. L Guess I should have read the fine print, but it said 33 locations and I didn’t think there were too many more than that. Wrong! Anyway, I called Mike who looked up online for another location (I don’t have a smart phone so I couldn’t do it myself. I’m thinking about asking for one for my birthday though. Ok now I’m getting off track here) I called the other 2 places but no one answered. It was Memorial Day after all, but I didn’t think the tanning places would be closed. I got home and found another one that was nearby, called and they were open, but their Mystic machine was down. L Oh well! I guess I’ll just use it later. So we packed up and went to Mike’s parents to swim and drop Buster off. At least I’d be outside and could try to get a bit of a tan before we left. We left a bit after dinner to ensure me enough time to still get things done at home, but late enough where we could put the boys straight to bed. I finished packing and took a shower so I wouldn’t have to in the morning and then hit the sack.
Departure Day – Tuesday, May 29, 2012
I was up before the alarm was scheduled to go off at 4am, but only by about 15 minutes. Even with Disney looming that’s early. I started getting ready and at 4:15 I woke Mike up for him to get in the shower. My FiL was scheduled to pick us up and take us to the airport that morning and I’d thought I’d heard something that sounded like the door bell, but then heard nothing else so I went back to getting ready. My phone rang a minute later and it was my FiL saying he was hear (4:30am). Usually Buster warns us of any noises and since he was already at my in-laws we didn’t have our guard dog. J We woke the boys up a few minutes later and Mike & his Dad got them ready. They were surprisingly alert and not whiny for being that early. We left right about 5am for the airport for our 6:35am flight. [Note: I will be using a lot of time information throughout the report. When I wrote my notes I noticed the time stamp on my pictures and I figured that would show everyone our timeline.]
We pulled up to the terminal around 5:20am and it was PACKED! I’ve never seen so many people at this terminal. This terminal only has Southwest and charter flights, so not too busy. Well I guess they’ve since added Airtran since SW bought them. I’m not sure if that’s what the congestion was about or there were just more flights too. The line to check baggage and get Lukas’ boarding pass wasn’t bad, but security was a nightmare. You couldn’t even tell where the line ended as there were lines snaking all over the place. We finally get up to the belt and make our way through. I had mt hands wiped because of my insulin pump, but didn’t receive the full pat down like last time. Dylan’s bag got rechecked because of the M&M tube with pennies & quarters in it. Once through we went to our gate that was a short walk away to discover they were about to start the ‘B’ boarding!!! We found our place in line; we were B19, 20 & 21 to only be pulled back out to be allowed to board because of the boys. We picked a row a few behind the exit row over the wing and settled in. Whew! That was a whirlwind. I handed goodie bags out to the flight attendant and they were very much appreciated. The flight to MCO was pretty uneventful.
We landed, made our way to DME and were on a bus at 10:30am!
You will see this face a lot! This is the face he made when you told him to smile.
Lukas is getting so big! I used to think Hope was tall for her age, but she's 3 years old and only 36" tall compared to your youngin' who's almost caught up to her! I love his "smile" face. Gotta love it!
