Merry, Magical, and Bright: Late Fall Adventures of Cam & Luke Updated 3/12 - Page 54 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So much to comment on in this update - firstly, I am so glad that we didn't take the buses on our most recent trip, judging by your experiences. Yes, the Minnie vans were expensive to use, but at least I could sit. There is no way I could've stood for some of your bus journeys with my chronic fatigue.
How great you finally got into the West Wing and wonderful that you got to meet Tara as well.
I loved the photos you got of Santa Goofy - I see a new career ahead of you as a Photopass photographer.
And how wonderful to have that Cast Member getting so enthused about the parade. I love that one, so I'm glad you enjoyed it too.

How nice to bump into Tara at dinner. You got some great shots of the parade but I love the shots you got of the castle. The party sounds like fun, hopefully we will get to experience it one year.
Yay! You got to sit in the West Wing! Dinner sounded delish. I will have to say, sadly, I will never get to eat dinner at BOG. New menu doesn't appeal to me at all. We will stick to lunch.
I love the parade. My fave are the wooden soldiers and the reindeer. Do you have a pic of your shirt?
I am with you with the extra parties and the price tag. We will probably do it in Nov because my girls were so tiny the only time we have done either of them and she really wants to do it now that she is older. After that we probably won't do them again.
Glad you found your earrings in the store, hopefully you found the lost one so you have two pairs. Maybe?
You’re right, that one picture of the castle with the light beams shining off it is SPECTACULAR!!
I don’t know that we’ll ever end up doing a party. They are so expensive, and to only be able to see one or two characters? Those end up being really expensive pictures! And then you may not even get a working PP camera - as you experienced with Goofy. Good you had your own camera!
Glad you got to see Tara at BoG! You two look as though you coordinated ears for the event!
Finally got all caught up with your last few updates. I'm so glad that you and Luke enjoyed your meal at Coral Reef since we recommended it so highly to you. We have had a great meal there consistently for the last two years. We have a reservation in May too! Sorry that you lost your Mickey earring. I know I've mentioned to you how we feel about the MVMCP now. Disney is definitely selling too many tickets for these events which just makes it less enjoyable with the wait times for favorite things. Glad you enjoyed your dinner at BOG and were able to sit in the West Wing finally! How fun that you got to meet up with Tara and Muffin too. I loved your shirt that you wore that evening and your Christmas colored mouse ears looked adorable with it! The picture that you took of the castle at the end of the night is truly spectacular!!!
Looks like you had a great time at the party. Sorry about the meet and greets. Judy and I were at the Halloween party and stood in line for over an hour for the Seven Dwarfs so at the Christmas party I jumped in line for Snow White and her prince. That took about an hour but I was successful. I really like your pictures of the parade. I learned the hard way that when viewing in Frontierland, the best side of the street is on the building side due to the lighting. I was there in November and was on the water side. The view was good but not for pictures----very poor lighting. You are right about the castle pix. You did very well.

Once again, some wonderful photography. I'm sorry about losing your earring, but glad you were able to find another pair to buy. Dining in the West Wing must have been a great experience. I missed the pictures with the Beast, but am sure they are very good.
I'm all caught up again. You had beautiful photos of Illumanations and from KS this morning. Meals have sounded good. Sorry you lost a favorite earring but glad you found another to purchase.
I've never been to any of the extra parties, and special characters would be awesome but not a 2 hour line, I can understand why you didn't get in line for seven dwarfs. You took great photos of Luke and Santa Goofy. Very fun!
I can understand why your last photo of the castle and fireworks and side building lit up is your favorite, it is so beautiful.

Your dinner at Be Our Guest sounds very good. I'm glad you got to meet Tara and Muffin. Sorry you lost them later.
Sorry you lost your earring but luckily you were able to find another pair.
The pictures of the castle all lit up are amazing. It's been way too many years since I was there for Christmas.
Your experiences with buses sound like ours.
Liz
Your dinner at Be Our Guest sounds delicious. It is a little dark in there! I love all of your pictures of the castle and parade. You always capture the best shots! I am with you on having second thoughts about attending Halloween and Christmas parties (at least maybe not every year). The prices go up every year, which we don't mind paying at all, but they do seem to be so much more crowded. I guess we were spoiled in years past when these parties were not so highly attended. We used to stay until the very end and then it did get a little less crowded. Not so much staying late for us anymore! A slow day for you and Luke sounds good after such a busy party day.
I remember the slack off in the crowd after the fireworks in the past, but now it seems the crowds hang around until the clock strikes twelve.

Too bad the parties are getting more expensive, and more crowded every year! When you figure out what you're really getting for the price you pay, those "free" cookies are pretty expensive!
Definitely some expensive "free" cookies!

I think you forgot to include the photos with The Beast!
Nice time for the party and parade but too bad you couldn't experience as much as you intended to with the large crowds. Not good, considering what you're paying for this event. Disney needs to rethink this and not try to cram as many people as possible for this.
Thanks for letting me know about the missing photos. I forgot to put in all the PhotoPass photos from this night. Oops! I've added them in now.

I think I might enjoy being a PhotoPass photographer during the winter months, but I don't think I could stand like some of them do out in the heat and humidity of summer. Or maybe they'd give me an inside job.

I'm pretty proud of my castle shots.

I thought I had a picture of me in the reindeer shirt, but I didn't wear it until I got home. I never did find the missing earring. I kind of wondered if it might have fallen off when I removed my elastic headband when we got off FOP.

I'm thinking I need to print that photo and frame it for our wall. I think that Luke and I aren't really party people, not anymore.

I saw that shirt on our first park day and told Luke it was the one for the Christmas party. That photo is one of the best I've ever taken.

I'm not sure if we'll do a party again, but if we do, I've thought we'll not make an ADR for dinner that night. That would give us time to join a character line earlier.

Thanks! I tend to wear this pair of earrings most of the time, so I knew I had to get another pair. At least now I have a spare. I forgot the PhotoPass pics from this night, but I've edited and added them in.

Thanks! I had a blast acting the role of PhotoPass photographer with Luke and Goofy.
Sorry about your earring. Glad you were able to find another pair! Dinner sounded great. How fun to meet up with Tara! Stunning castle pictures!
Thanks! I have loads of castle shots, but these are now my favorites.

I kept looking for Tara and crew, but we never saw them again, which is just sad. I love MK in its Christmas finery.
