Fall, Firsts, Food And The Final Frontier TR - UPDATED 11/11 - COMPLETE!! - Page 54 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So glad your meal at Chefs changed your opinion of this restaurant. We've eaten here several times and enjoyed each meal. What a bummer that your flight time was changed.

It was 2005 and I was quite disappointed with my meal. It was dinner and before I decided to take later flights on my departure day and why I didn't do this from the beginning is beyond me and makes no sense as the way to do it! Get as most out of your vacation as you can. It was 10-12 pm departures. Later flights since 2011 and the way to go and each time with a great lunch. Most in Epcot and one at HBD in Studios. I think it will be Epcot in the future from now on as my favorite park as much more to chose from and a lot of great eateries that are open for lunch. A park on the last day is a certainty!
I'm so glad I returned to Chef's as I had such an exceptional meal and service overall. It's funny that many here have had the same experience with this place and perhaps it's better now! You're one of the few who've had great experiences there each time.
I certainly plan to return and hopefully on my next trip but tough now with insurmountable choices with the Springs choices and much more opening there and more, plus other areas! It's insane, but a good thing with so many at your fingertips and will take advantage of over time!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Saturday, October 22nd (Part III) In just a couple of minutes I arrived back at the B Resort. My taxi fare wasn’t that bad at $16 including tip. I went to bell services and picked up my bags, which I had held while I was in Epcot. I still had some time until my Mears shuttle pick up, so I passed the time just relaxing in the lobby as well as writing some of my trip notes. I went outside to wait for the shuttle a few minutes before its’ scheduled arrival at 3:15 pm. Some time went by and no sign of my shuttle.
Not that it mattered with the flight delay, but I called Mears at 3:30 pm and asked about the whereabouts of my shuttle as it hadn’t arrived yet. Mostly, just making sure that I wasn’t overlooked and that they would arrive. They said my driver was running a bit late and will arrive shortly. I’ve used Mears many times previously and this is the first time I recall them ever being late. So, they are quite reliable. Finally, at 3:40 pm my driver arrived.
There would be three other stops we had to make to pick up other passengers including at the Best Western (across the street) and the Gaylord Palms resort a few miles away. While, we were on the way to the airport, I received another text from Jet Blue with the notification of a further delay. My flight is now pushed back until 8:15 pm. So now, I have a two-hour delay! Well, I’ll certainly grab some dinner in the airport as I’ll have plenty of time. I’m not hungry now as I just had lunch, but will be in a few hours.
We arrived at Orlando International Airport at 4:30 pm and not too bad, considering we had three more passengers to pick up after me. I went to the Jet Blue counter and checked in my bag as I had checked in for my flight last night on the Jet Blue app. The line wasn’t that bad and this was done rather quickly.
I had a lot of time before boarding my flight, so I walked over towards the Hyatt and just hung out, where the fountain is as I like this area as so relaxing watching the fountain. I wrote up some more notes and did a few things on my phone as well as texting my brothers back north about my flight delays. They felt my pain!
It was about 5 pm and over the next thirty minutes or so, I received two more texts from Jet Blue and it was further flight delays! The first one went from 8:15 pm to 9 pm and then the next one to 9:30 pm. This is not getting any better! I thought about going to the Jet Blue counter and find out the reason for the delay, but the line was long and not like it would change anything. I’d just wait until I got to the gate later.
What this means now is that my flight won’t arrive until about 12:15 am or so! This is going to be a long day and unfortunately, not by choice! In the meantime, after just hanging out by the fountain, I went to visit some of the various shops including Disney, Universal and Kennedy Space Center. Nothing that interesting in these as just the standard items and not as good as in the parks.
It was getting later, but not even close to boarding time, so I remained in the main terminal before going through security as I wanted to get something for dinner in the food court in a bit. The terminal was quite crowded when I arrived a few hours ago, but it was now starting to thin out. Especially, the security lines, which will be beneficial later.
It was daylight, when I arrived, but no longer!
I went to the food court at around 7:30 pm and went to Sbarro. I didn’t get a lot, since I had a big lunch at Chef’s de France earlier. I just had a slice of pepperoni pizza and a coke. The pizza was good and hit the spot! After this, I washed up and got my carry-on bag ready to go through security. There was hardly any line and went through in just a minute or two with just a few people in front of me. It was 8:30 pm and boarding is scheduled for 9 pm.
I took the monorail to my terminal and walked to gate 8 for my flight. I was told our plane was still in the hangar and that tests were being run on the plane. They said it should take off. I just hope it doesn’t get cancelled!
There were quite a few people on our flight who switched from my flight to an earlier flight at 9 pm to LaGuardia. As long, as you didn’t park at the airport, it won’t be a problem for them. Shortly, they made an announcement at the gate that our flight is even further delayed until 10 pm! The news just keeps getting better! Not exactly a dream ending to a great trip! One good thing is that our plane is being brought to the gate and will take off! So, some good news after all!
It’s funny, that many on my flight switched to the earlier flight as an announcement came over that this flight is delayed from 9 pm to 10:45 pm. They must feel pretty stupid now! Not only will their flight get in later than mine, but their ride home will be longer from LaGuardia as I’m quite sure they live in Westchester County, NY or in Connecticut. It will be more expensive as well with a car or shuttle service. I’m sure they thought our flight would be cancelled as they weren’t guaranteeing this, when I arrived at the gate.
While I was at the gate and earlier in the terminal, I called my work colleague Sharon from work and told her about the delays. She had checked on this earlier and knew about it. Originally, she would have picked me up at Westchester Airport around 9 pm.
They announced boarding would begin at 9:45 pm for our flight, so perhaps a 10:15 pm departure. The other flight is now even further delayed until 11:30 pm. Not sure, the reason for their delay but my flight was a mechanical issue of some sort.
We began boarding at 9:45 pm and with an “Even More Space” seat, I was one of the first to board. After closing the plane, we took off at 10:20 pm. At least I would get back home and my flight wasn’t cancelled. During the flight, I had some chips and a coke and watched the Chicago Cubs advance to the World Series for the first time since 1945 by defeating the Dodgers. Quite amazing, it’s been that long! At least I got to see this as about halfway into the flight the Direct TV service went out and never came back! Just another thing to add to today’s flight issues!
We landed at 1 am and taxiing to the gate is very brief at a small airport. We disembarked rather quickly and I headed to baggage claim, which is a short walk. While, I was there, I received another text from Jet Blue and in it, they apologized for the long delay. Also, they said I would be receiving a $100 credit to use on a future flight within a year. It would be in my Jet Blue Bank. I’m glad some good came out of this and plan to use the credit to Disney next year!
I got my bags and called Sharon. She arrived at 1:20 am. During, the ride home I told her about all the texts I received, one after another with the delays and the first one after leaving Epcot. She also got a good laugh out of those who switched to the other flight, which would depart over an hour after my flight! I got home just before 2 am with a very interesting ending to another great Walt Disney World adventure!!!
NEXT: FINAL THOUGHTS!

Oh wow, as you say, that was an interesting ending to your trip - my goodness, what a nightmare with all the delays, but I'm glad you made it home without your flight being cancelled and at least you have a credit towards your next Disney flight as well.
Thanks for sharing this trip with us, it's been great fun reading it and I can't wait to hear about your more recent trip now - no pressure!
What a nightmare with the delayed flights. It's really bad when you're grateful that you even have a flight home. Not a good ending to your trip. Did you ever find out why it was delayed so long?

It certainly wasn't an ideal ending to my trip! But at least I made it home fine. The credit came in handy for my just completed trip.
So glad you enjoyed this as I enjoy sharing these with a great bunch of PPs so much!
My next TR, I hope to get underway soon, but Igot to learn how to use Flikr and upload the photos. I just finished the editing of these over the weekend. I just don't want those links to appear to the right of my photos as I see here. Will read the thread about using the alternatives to PB and find the way to remove those links! Although, none of my photos have disappeared with PB here, I'm not sure that I trust them with their new policy. They're probably still in view as I have an Ad Free account with them. I will also have to upgrade to one of their paid storage offerings as I'm close to my 10 GB free limit. I have a coupon for a bit of a break on the first package. Hope it works out and looking forward to doing another TR!

It was crazy with the flight delay and it just kept getting worse. Just wish I had found out before leaving Epcot as I was in the taxi, when I got my first text about this from Jet Blue! At least I got home fine w/o my flight being cancelled! They never said exactly why my flight was delayed so long. It was a mechanical issue of some sort and that's all they told me when I asked at the gate.

Oh my goodness, what a nightmare with all the delayed flights! Very nice of Sharon to come get you so late at night!

It was insane with the delay and just kept getting worse as the evening progressed! I kept in contact with Sharon as I set up this pick up with her months ago. I kept her informed of the delay and she was aware of it as well as she was checking. I called her when they confirmed my departure time. She lives in the same town as I do and it's about a thirty minute drive to the airport, which is quite convenient.

I was quite happy that I returned to Chef's and had such a great last meal at WDW. The delay was annoying and was ticking me off as nothing I could do about it. Not the way I want a great trip to end.

It's really simple. You get the BBCode for your photo, which will appear as a [url= and finishes as [/url] What you need to do is remove everything before the [img] and after the [/img] - that section is the photo only. The rest is where the photo's located. Hope that helps.
Wow, that's sounds like a frustrating flight home but at least you got the $100 flight credit for your next Disney trip! We've been delayed at Orlando trying to get home to NJ and I know at that point that you just want to get home. Thanks for sharing your trip adventures with us.
Well that was an adventure getting home! Thank goodness you didn't switch to the other flight! Looking forward to your final thoughts!
It was certainly an adventure and not what I wanted on my return home! I never really considered switching my flight and glad I didn't!
