Living the dream and remembering the Bagman COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM - Page 53 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Nice photos of your walk in Montreal. The Underground looks amazing and reminds me of the one I visited in Sydney, which was across the street from my hotel.
And again, I learn something else. I had no idea Sydney had one.
Your lobster sandwiches looked so good along with the desserts! I somehow knew you were going to choose the macaroons!
Gosh, I can't imagine how you worked that out...

The underground city was very interesting! I was at the 1967 Montreal Expo with my family. I was only 8 but I do remember certain things about it. Everything was in French which made it difficult to understand most things. It was still exciting to be there though!
It amazes me how many PP's have memories of Expo '67. It was a big deal back then and like one of the Worlds Fairs. I wish they'd bring those back as like the Olympics of world culture and experience. I guess that's how that can be said!
I'm glad I'm not the only one amazed by this. I seem to recall me saying before that I wish they'd bring them back, only to discover they're still going, but just on a much smaller scale these days.
Yep - found it on Wikipedia. They are still going.
Thursday 15 September – part eight: have I made a big mistake here?
On the way out of the Underground City shopping mall, I got tempted by this…
… and ended up having a crème brulee macaron. Oh boy, this was very good as well!
We headed outside, and see what I mean about how hard it is to find your way into the underground city? This was one of the entrances, but my goodness, you’d have no clue what was behind it!
We made our way back to our respective hotels, getting some photos on the way…
We could even see our rooftop terrace from here!
We found a lovely square right by our hotel – who knew?
We parted ways, and we headed back to the room for some down time. After a while, we headed up to the rooftop pool, as I wanted to get a swim in. Heck, I figured I’d better get back on the horse, if you know what I mean? I did 30 lengths, no doubt upsetting the little girl in the pool who was swimming widths. I figured I could swim lengths and work around her, but literally about four lengths in, she was gone. I guess she couldn’t work around me then?
I was pleasantly surprised that I could swim so easily. I find doing both the backstroke and breaststroke a good way to test out all of my body, and the only part I struggled with was my right arm. I have patently pulled some muscle in there in the slip I had at the Fairmont. Fortunately, my shoulder seems Ok, but my life, you should see the bruising coming out on my left arm. It’s fairly obvious now that’s what stopped my head falling on to the side of the pool. It’s got a long line of bruises forming from my elbow all the way up to my wrist. At least when we get to the Fairmont in Ottawa, I can show them that as proof of what happened to me!
We were going to stay a while longer, but when a family with four kids showed up, we decided it was the time to beat a hasty retreat back to the room…
We met up with Sharon at 6:45pm in our lobby before dinner, and took her up to the rooftop terrace to show her the view… it was pretty darned neat!
You can see the haze in the air on this shot of the Olympic Park
We walked over to Zibo, which is where we’d be having dinner. Oh my goodness, the level of noise as we entered the place was just insane! I must admit at that point I did think I’d made a big mistake…
The restaurant was upstairs, and fortunately the noise level did reduce as we went up there, but even so, we still had to yell to hear each other, which I don’t like at restaurants. We all said it was trying to be too much. It needed to decide if it wanted to be a bar (downstairs) with loud, bassy music – in which case, fine, or whether it wanted to be a restaurant, but the two really didn’t work together.
I'm glad I'm not the only one amazed by this. I seem to recall me saying before that I wish they'd bring them back, only to discover they're still going, but just on a much smaller scale these days.

They're not only still going, they're WONDERFUL! The one in Milan last year was incredible.

Mmmm, macarons! Creme brulee, I bet that was amazing!
Montreal does such a great job of blending the new buildings with the old ones. It really is beautiful. And from your rooftop at that time of night... again! So pretty for pictures!
Oh I'm totally with you on restaurants like that. If I can't even hear the people I'm with, then what's the point. I don't even like going to the grocery store when they have their store music on too loud!

So glad that you were able to get a nice swim in without much pain since your fall! I can only imagine what the bruising looked like! I really dislike when you go to a restaurant and the background noise is so loud that it's difficult to hold a conversation with each other. It doesn't sound like the service was all that good either.

Oh wow - I think I am going to have to try and find a way to get to one... It may be a long time though. Kazakhstan and Dubai aren't on my list of places to go and they're the host for 2017 and 2020. Poland's looking at it for 2022, so that's a possible, and if Manchester gets it in 2025, then definitely... except how far away is that?

It was wonderful....

We were at a restaurant on Saturday night in London and kept commenting about how wonderful it was to have the music at such a low and subtle level. We were able to enjoy our food, the view and have a great conversation. If only everywhere could be like that.

I so should've taken a photo of my arm, it was literally black from the elbow up to the wrist!

Er no... put simply, but I'll save the full appalling details for tomorrow's update.
I really enjoyed exploring Montreal with you and Mark! Such fun!
And right back at cha! It's always so much fun seeing you... we may be heading Stateside fairly soon and, if our plans work out (I should know in the next day or two), I'll be sure to let you know, just in case we can connect...

This is actually one of my favorite memories of the trip - the look on your face when you spotted those macarons!
Love it!
That is so going in my digital photobook when I get round to doing it!

I know what's coming next but looking forward to more anyway.
