As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

That altitude does make you sleepy! When my parents first moved to Colorado, they knew that by 3 each day, they'd need a little nap. That was always the case when I visited them too - either a nap at home, or I'd doze off the moment we were in the car and wake up wondering how we got there!

How long did the entire journey up the mountain take? How long were you in the tunnel?
From Kleine Scheidegg up to Jungfraujoch, it was about an hour, and I'd say 40-45 minutes of that was in tunnel. From Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg, it was another hour long journey, so from boarding the first train, it probably took two hours in total.

The view from Jungfrau is breathtaking and I love the contrast between the jagged, snow covered mountains and the green, lush valley below. The history of the area looks nicely done as well as interesting. Thank goodness the trip down was much better and that you even had some nice company for a portion. Great cow pictures as you descended, too. And I'm finally caught back up.
Fell a day behind! Love the photos of Jungfrau and all of its' scenery. They just can't be beat. Especially, loved the ones of the paragliders...and it goes without saying...your boys! Glad you didn't encounter any other rude tour groups! How can you top a day like this? I don't think you can as I experienced this in the French Alps in Chamonix earlier this year.

Tuesday 3 September – part eight: a celebrity on board!
On the way down, we were fascinated to hear an American talking, especially as he said he was a professional rugby player. It’s not often (no offence guys! ) that you hear an American say that. He said enough for me to be able to find him online later.. this is him: Paul Emerick. He said that he’d gone out hiking, thinking that, because he was fit, the times they gave to walk from one place to another, would be over-estimated, and that he could do it in less time than that, but as he said – he got a shock to the system, as when it’s uphill, it’s really steep uphill. That’s why he was catching the train, as he wanted to cut out some of today’s planned hike. I can’t say I blame him…

We also had a few more cow sightings…
Soon we were at Wengen, where most of the carriage emptied off. Then we carried on, getting yet more beautiful views along the way…
I really loved seeing the green meadows, with the snow capped mountains above them. Think of Switzerland, and this is what I think of!
Eventually, we were Lauterbrunnen, and the train emptied, as this is a terminus stop. Everyone seemed to be heading for the car park, so we headed for the Coop supermarket instead, which was just over the road. There seemed to be just as many foreign imports in here, so I’m not sure about my book that told me one supermarket carried more local goods than the other. However, they did sell wine in here, so I grabbed a couple of bottles of Swiss wine to try. When we got to the checkout, I took out a 50 CHF note, and it just literally tore in half. I don’t know about you, but that’s never happened to me before in my life. I was mortified, and fortunately this must happen a lot, as the cashier just sellotaped it back together.
Then we headed back to the car, and headed out. On the way, we saw this sign, which shows how many hours it takes to walk to various places!
This sign is wishing you a good journey in German, but I find it entertaining in a childish sort of way!

I couldn’t believe how little they charged to park here, bearing in mind how convenient it is for the railway station. We’d been there since 10:00am, and it was now 4:00pm, and it was only 7.50 CHF (c. $8).
Next: this is a very weird way to get to our room…
I think these views are some of the prettiest you've posted. The shots with the snow-capped mountains above you are more dramatic to me than being on the top and looking down. Fun to have a celebrity spotting on the train, but I'm a bit baffled that he didn't know that a hike in the alps would be steep!
