The trip of many changes... TRIP REPORT UPDATED 4/25 - Page 51 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just getting caught up again! Sorry it’s a bit rough for your last day! How awful they are forcing you to go to the main restaurants on the last night and then have awful menus. I guess they want to make sure you tip the servers!
Saturday 20 January – part three: a long lunch with great friends
We headed out and over to Triton’s and Julia was just checking in. We were taken to a table for eight in the corner with just the four of us on it and made our choices. We decided to keep it relatively light, given we now had dinner at Palo booked.
I had the crisp romaine leaf salad tossed with cherry tomatoes, sliced red onions (which I asked to be left out – I’m not a fan), cucumber and carrots, served with grilled salmon fillet and again, it was pretty big.
Mark had the same, but with grilled chicken breast.
For dessert, I went for the mint cookie crunch sundae, made up of mint chocolate chip ice cream with Oreo cookie chunks, chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
Mark had the apple pie served with caramel cinnamon sauce and vanilla ice cream.
Considering we didn’t eat much, our meal took ages – more than an hour, which really shocked us and Mark (other one! ) had to go down to the Cadillac Lounge, as their mixology class was due to start at 2:00pm, but they were still eating.
We have had such a wonderful time with them and I’m really glad we were paired on our table with them. We’re meeting one last time for breakfast at Cabana’s (at least it’s open tomorrow! ) before we head our separate ways.
We headed back to the room, which was still being cleaned, so we sat on the veranda until it was done. There was a neat rainbow from some of our spray further up the ship.
As you can see, there were also some white caps out there and we certainly were moving, but somehow we were still keeping going. Even as I sat down, I could feel us moving from side to side quite considerably at times.
After a while, we headed downstairs to the shops, where we did some very serious damage. Mark bought two polo shirts he’d been admiring, while I leaned on the shelving, which helped with the pitching of the ship, and gave fashion advice from the sidelines.
Then we went into the other part of the shop and ended up getting two Christmas ornaments, the ship’s funnel mug that Mark loves (he has two currently, both of which are getting damaged by continued visits to the dishwasher ), a tea towel and hand towel set and a scrapbooking kit. With the latter, although I now do digital scrapping, I can scan everything in and use them for previous I’m still to scrap, this one and forthcoming ones, as the items are just generic Disney Cruise Line, rather than specific to the Wonder.
As we wandered to our next destination, we found this friendly dog on the way!
We were on our way to Shutters to have a look at the photos they’d taken of us this cruise – only at the various restaurants, as we hadn’t stood in line for anything. We had the grand total of eight! Well, we certainly weren’t going to pay for a photo package with that many and I’m glad we didn’t pre-purchase one, as it saved a lot of standing around and waiting this cruise. We did like the three shots they’d got of the two of us together, so we got each of those as digital downloads. It was costly at $62, but worth it.
How wonderful that they were able to get you a reservation at Palo again! I know how much you enjoy this restaurant along with the impeccable service they offer there. It really is too bad that they made the tasting during the lunch hour.
Your lunch at Triton's looked delicious and those desserts are two of my favorites. Glad you enjoyed your time so much with Julia and Mark. It really adds so much to a vacation when you hit it off with other people.
Sounded like a perfect lunch, except for the long time.
A great afternoon of relaxing and shopping! Again, lovely views from the balcony!

Oh my gosh, I love the idea of scanning in the scrapbook items to use in digital albums! (I haven’t started my TA album yet and have been debating a lot between doing a digital one or a “real”album....
And I wonder if Cabanas is closed the last night because most prefer to go to the MDR to give tips, and they need the time to really clean and prep for the turnover the next day (especially since they are open for breakfast, and then for lunch for the next cruise).

I honestly cannot recommend digital enough. However, I will say that you need to find software that works for you that you find easy to use. Once you do, then you're away. I would recommend mine, except it's British only with no overseas distribution, so that wouldn't work for you, but if you decide to go down that avenue. It takes some getting used to, but I find it so much quicker to do everything digitally.

That's a fair point about Cabanas and the need to clean it up before the next cruise. I hadn't thought of that.
Quite a nice light meal at Triton's. Can't believe your meal still took that long. Love the views from your veranda on such a nice day. Nice going with the shopping as quite a success. Well at least until you get the credit card bill!

Yes, that's always the unpleasant part of a vacation.
Saturday 20 January – part four: we can’t get back inside
We headed outside to get some fresh air, as I was feeling a little unwell. I don’t know what it was. The shop had been hot (to me anyway) and I figured it would be nice out and it was. We made our way along the deck…
… and through the front of the ship, which we always enjoy seeing.
When we got to the other side of the ship, we figured we’d head back inside, but that wasn’t happening, as for some reason, all the doors were roped off. We ended up doing a full circuit of deck four, which I guess wouldn’t do us any harm.
Once finally back inside, we headed up to the drinks station to get some Diet Cokes and then headed back to the room, where we watched the next episode of Hard Sun.
After that finished, I decided to download our cruise photos, as you have to do it by the end of the cruise. It kept coming up and telling me that we had no photos. I don’t think so! I headed back to Shutters and after various attempts at the kiosk – it took about three or four tries, finally the photos were there and I downloaded them to both the phone and the computer to be on the safe side.
As we got ready to dine again at Palo, I kept an eye on the sunset outside, as I had a feeling it could be a good one – and it was!
